Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
A little fun - 18 years ago
In the thread announcing Tom Joseph's passing, Bill Howard suggested: Some time it would be fun (well, a little) to recall all the Cornell sports announcers and where they've gone on to. It would be boring as hell for eLynah denizens who thank Adam Wodon is an old-timer. Here's what I remember ... I arrived at Cornell as a freshman in the fall of 1967. Tom Joseph - 18 years ago
Tom Joseph, who provided color commentary for Roy Ives' play-by-play of Cornell hockey games on WHCU for most of the 1970's, passed away recently. Here's a link to the obituary:by ACM - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. Clarkson in the Late 60s - 19 years ago
I was there too. Bill Duthie scored the Cornell goal 1:52 into the second period. Bob Baldwin tied it for Clarkson midway through the third. And Maki got the game-winner with 42 seconds left in OT. And yes, Pettit got a fighting major in the previous game and had to sit out the Clarkson game.by ACM - Hockey

Cropper was the goalie for the 14-0 shutout of Penn on 1/8/69. Dryden had the other three that season.by ACM - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Vermont Postgame Thread - 19 years ago
first on team defense (1.53; not sure why this is higher than McKee's 1.47; probably if the stats count a game as a game, not as per 60 minutes) McKee's stats only include time and goals scored when he's actually in the game. Time when he's pulled for an extra player is not included, nor are goals scored in those situations (empty-net goals). Team stats include all goals and all playing time:by ACM - Hockey

Jason Weinstein is apparently incompetent. Every Cornell announcer from Sam Woodside (almost 40 years ago) to Adam Wodon has been able to at least hook up a live broadcast from the arena.by ACM - Hockey

Re: Majors for piddly shit - 19 years ago
"Game misconduct" and "game disqualification" are two different penalties. I distinctly heard the Moulson penalty announced as as "game disqualification" over the radio last night. Yet it was apparently recorded as a "game misconduct" on at least one web site. The league, and the NCAA, have a communication problem they have to solve. The penalty calleby ACM - Hockey
Re: Cornell athletics and horrible radio ads - 19 years ago
Yeah, their ads suck. But what bugs me a whole lot more is that they don't seem to be able to deliver the basic product they claim to be delivering. "Technical difficulties" is just a code for "we have no idea how to hook up our remote broadcast on any consistent basis". In this day and age, that's basically inexcusable.by ACM - Hockey
Re: Ithaca Stars? - 19 years ago
I was the publicist and general manager of the Ithaca Stars for virtually their entire existence, so I can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about them. The Stars began in the spring of 1974, as an outgrowth of a local men's hockey league. They played in a couple of tournaments that spring. In the fall, they joined with the Auburn Cayugas, the Potsdam Pioneers, and the Copper Cityby ACM - Hockey

[OT] Direct mail weirdness - 21 years ago
1. A few weeks ago, I received a mailing, addressed to me, in Ithaca, from Domino's, with phone numbers of outlets to call for their advertised specials. The names of the towns and the area codes of the phone numbers were unfamiliar, so I looked them up. They are in Colorado ... 2. Today I received two copies of the NCAA's 2003 Publications Catalog. Both were sent to my home address, but addby ACM - Hockey

Josh said: Quin: #1 Palahicky. #7 Mark McRae. #8 Vesce (w/ Downs and Bâby). Avash asked: Josh, how did you know it was Mark, not Matt? Josh replied: The 2nd digit on his right sleeve could be a nine, but it couldn't be a 7, therefore Mark. But looking at it again, I think it could also be Chris Abbot (not Cam by similar number shaping elimination method). Or maybe it's someone else. Without evby ACM - Hockey

Re: RIDES - 21 years ago
Now that I have my ticket, I guess I need to get serious about making sure that I can actually get to Buffalo to use it. As anyone who has heard the radio spot I did for TCAT, I neither drive nor own a car, so long-haul trips are always an adventure. I'm looking for transportation from Ithaca to Buffalo and back, in exchange for reasonable compensation. Ideally, I'd like not to have to stay ovby ACM - Hockey

Injured Reserve List In the event that a player is injured and a Club wishes to place him on the Injured Reserve List the Club must follow these procedures: A club may place a player on the Injured Reserve List if such player is injured, disabled or ill and unable to perform his duties as a hockey player after having passed the Club's initial physical examination in that season.
