Re: Cornell - Providence - 5 years ago
Two points: 1. Rejuvention spas aside, Providence got to watch Cornell play a game and figure out a strategy that would work against us. They succeeded. 2. WTF is up with their mascot. Is it designed to inflict psychological harm on the vulnerable?by Roy 82 - Hockey

Greenberg '97 imafrshmn Greenberg '97 Also there's a Husky joke in there somewhere. Can people actually attempt to make puns or jokes rather than say this, which is not itself funny? Probably. But I have a dogpile of work to do. If my boss were to catch me on here, he'd bark at me. I agree yu kon ask people to try but it might be ruff going.by Roy 82 - Hockey

Trotsky Funny thing is, despite all the suicide attempts (my own included), all we need tonight is a Cornell win, a Clarkson win, and a Yale win, and we exit the weekend in better shape than when we came into it. In what way did you attempt suicide?by Roy 82 - Hockey

Trotsky George64 Huttenlocher declares free-agency and departs for MIT.I'm trying really hard to care one way or the other about this guy, but... I am trying hard to interpret this article given all the innuendos it seems to include. Was his departure connected to Amazon's pullout of NYC? Did his comments on the campus imply that he was frustrated with the slow rate of completion or vagueness oby Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

George64 Interesting article in NYT on Cornell Tech. "...a retired lawyer who lives on Roosevelt Island, recently worked with Cornell Tech students to address a daily problem for older people: how to carry a shopping bag when holding onto a walker? They came up with a 3-D-printed hinge to attach to a walker." So.... it's a hook.by Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

ugarte jeff '84 Meanwhile on the ESPN that is working, CU keeping it close. 47-45 orange with 8:45 to go. Morgan has 21. Cornell got the lead at 48-47 and again at 50-49 but after that Syracuse locked down and won 63-55. Not so much Syracuse locking down as Cornell getting cold on their 3-pointers. Several of the late Syracuse points came on fouls to stop the clock. A couple of more 3's and itby Roy 82 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football 2018 - 5 years ago
Trotsky Hey, football's fine if that's what you're into -- I've watched most of the Cornell games on ESPN+ this year. But I don't see any point in throwing any more resources at a behemoth which already warps and distends athletic budgets and gender balance. And attempting to gain Ivy football dominance is a bit like trying to win the Special Olympics. It makes the disabled participants feel eby Roy 82 - Other Sports

Ryan gets the crap beat out of him by Bogosian but the Sharks kicked butt and so he had the last laugh.by Roy 82 - Hockey

Rita Ryan, Joakim San Jose Barracuda (AHL)--10/12/17 San Jose Sharks (NHL) Ryan is getting some ice time tonight in the Sharks/Kings game. On the Sharks broadcast, the 2nd intermission featured Douglas "Crankshaft/Cranky" Murray as studio analyst. A bit stiff in his analyis (or delivery of it). I'm not sure if the talking head gig is permanent or if he will be a rotating analyst.by Roy 82 - Hockey
Re: 1967 NCAA Men's Hockey Championship Game Puck on eBay - 5 years ago
Beeeej The description acknowledges that he cannot say for certain it's the game puck from that game. Hmmm. A bit of amateur sleuthing: In 1964 Tyer Rubber company became Converse and the puck logo should reflect that if it is from 1967 (maybe they got a deal on old pucks?). The puck logo on eBay says "Tyer". The description states: "Found in the basement of a deceased Cornelby Roy 82 - Hockey

French Rage To me, the worst thing she did was make the student body draw slips of paper and sacrificed one unlucky for a good hockey season. Especially since the sacrifice clearly didn't work. In what month did they have this lottery? I hear it matters.by Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

If you don't want to retire jersey numbers then we should honor the folks with something very permanent....like stone monuments in the outfield of an historic building like Yankee Stadium. That will be there forever.by Roy 82 - Hockey

ugarte Jim Hyla gonyr Ryan scores his first two NHL goals Since it won't let me play the video, here's the YouTube. First around 0:30 and second around 4:00. The first one was soft but that second one was beautiful. Darn. Missed it since I am officially boycotting the NHL during the Olympics to protest its decision to not participate.Congratulations to Ryan.by Roy 82 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 I for one will continue to sing the current lyrics. Political correctness be damned! Why? I gladly welcome the more inclusive lyrics since it makes many people feel better and does no harm to me.by Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

Al DeFlorio Jeff Hopkins '82Once again we're the only team in the PWR with no Quality Inn bonus points. Can't even get a free room. 1 l3 _3 (that's a thumbs up) The only thing separating an old-school forum like this form newer social media is a Like button.by Roy 82 - Hockey

sah67 Ben Scrivens in the video announcement of the Canadian Men's Olympic team: Congrats to Ben! Is this the place to rant about how short-sighted the NHL is about allowing athletes to compete in the Olympics? Of course, with the strict salary caps, the NHL is becoming more of an apprentice-master league with fewer in between athletes and so perhaps we ll see NHL-level competition in theby Roy 82 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2018 - 6 years ago
Having followed the Islanders during their glory years, I know that Moose Jaw, roughly the population of Ithaca, has produced many fine NHL players. I always got a kick out of the town name and imagined that it was a town of bear-skin shelters located above the arctic circle (it is actually not that far from Regina and connected by highways and rail lines). Re: Concussions and other head injuries - 6 years ago
I've pretty much given up on football since I don't think that the game can be separated from head trauma. I am more optimistic about hockey. Step 1: As much as I like a good fight, it's time to put an end to them. They are less common now but they can be easily eliminated.by Roy 82 - Other Sports
Re: IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO REGARDING THE SPAM POSTS? - 6 years ago
Swampy Suggestions: 1. Create a separate forum for hockey topics that have been dormant for 6 months or more; this would limit the number of "active" topics one has to search through 2. Limit the number of posts an individual user can make within a given time limit 3. Add a Captcha to all postings. Thanks for offering constructive suggestions.
