Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Recruits beyond 2020 - 3 years ago
Trotsky Cop at Lynah The IVY Presidents are so ideologically challenged they can't get their shit straight It's not "ideology." A slot machine does not have an ideology. Their only job, until such time as they are replaced by robots, is to make sure derpy parents and derpier donors keep pressing the PAY bar that dispenses the Ivy smugness pellets. Everything else is just aby Roy 82 - Hockey
Re: Coaching endowments - 3 years ago
Wow. It is hard to believe that the Everett family has enough women hockey players to require a head coach. (Yes, this is sarcastic quasi-rant against the awkwardness of auctioning off titles and the literal implications.)by Roy 82 - Hockey

arugula billhoward Don't celebrate until you get a thick aid-package envelope. Given the mature years of many here on the forum, "ED" gives one pause. As to the financial aid package we received, either we're poor, or Cornell is rich. Arugula, lettuce all celebrate your good fortune! (sorry, obvious puns are all I got)by Roy 82 - Hockey

Trotsky "Now that the car is sliding out of control sideways, please unbuckle your seatbelt." Nice image but I'm not a fan of the seatbelt analogy. For the most part, seatbelts are designed to save the wearer. In contrast masks help the wearer but they also save others. So the analogy is more like: "With the onset of icy roads, speed limits and all traffic regulations are optiby Roy 82 - Hockey

Re: RIP Frank HT Rhodes - 4 years ago
He came to Cornell just a year before our class and stayed nearly 20 years. So many of my Cornell memories are tied to his tenure. At our last class reunion he joined us for a class lunch. I have used the word "class" here a lot and that is a good word to describe him.by Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

Jim Hyla RichH I'm pretty surprised nobody here has posted this yet, but go on talking about what grants Benny Hill is getting or whatever. Anthony Angello promoted to the NHL Likely a short-term call-up, but a pretty significant moment. And he played. Nice article. From the photos we see that someone in his cheering section had the good taste to wear a Cornell jersey.by Roy 82 - Hockey

billhoward Roy 82 Heard recently from Grady: "Malott in the slot" Reason why none of the threads are archived then removed. Not much poetry from the Q TV team. Actually the Q announcer on ESPN+ said something like "Quinnipiac is back" and then complemented himself on the rhyme.by Roy 82 - Hockey

Re: Alumni News: 2019-20 - 4 years ago
The Ivy newsletter via e-mail indicates that only two Cornell players (Nash and Ryan) have played in the NHL in the first half of the season. I guess they don't include brief call-ups. 16 Ivies Compete In NHL First Half Sixteen former Ivy League men’s ice hockey players have competed in National Hockey League (NHL) games during the 2019-20 campaign. The 16 Ivies have accumulated 74 goals,by Roy 82 - Hockey

Re: Las Vegas Roll Call - 4 years ago
Just decided that since they were coming most of the way to me in California then I would return the favor. Going with my dad who just turned 90! Fri: GA (Cornell sections not available) and reception in Toshiba Plaza Sat: Section 6 Staying at the Delano Mandalay Bay. (Might have done the MGM had I known about the Cornell deal that was noted in my reception confirmation)by Roy 82 - Hockey
Re: Las Vegas Roll Call - 4 years ago
Weder I’ll be there in one of the GA sections. Note that there is an official alumni reception before the Friday game if you feel like spending $50 for hot dogs and popcorn (a relative bargain for the Strip!) You forgot "nachos, and mac & cheese; along with a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks". You also forgot that you get to hear from Mike Scafer and spend time with feby Roy 82 - Hockey

Trotsky marty dbilmes For some strange reason, I turned on the UMass-Brown game, which is currently airing on NESN. I have never seen such an empty rink. There appear to be more people on the ice then in the stands. The announcer typically has to take a break between periods. My understanding is that he makes it down to the concession stand..... to serve the Coke and hot cocoa.IINM Eddie Shoreby Roy 82 - Hockey

JasonN95 Roy 82 I give up. I can sign into my workspace and see a list of my workspace options. I can't access elynah directly form the link above nor indirectly form my workspace. I seem to be going in circles myself. Oh well. The trick was that the join.slack.com link in the message above was specifically for the elynah channel. billhoward As to question 2, there have been instances that "Beware of Dog" signs indicate the dog-owner's understanding the dog is violent. Has the opposite effect. "Dog on Premises" might have been a safer. Legally. Remember where Cornell is the school where a spectator was hit by a puck and died. 1983? I know it has been beaten to death in this forum, but I happened to catch the tail end of an episode of The Office (US) and the Cornell connection was obvious. In the last minute or so of the episode I saw 1) Cornell pennant 2) Cornell diploma and most significantly: 3) Cornell hockey figurine.by Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

Beeeej Ryan and the Sharks move on to round 3 with a 3-2 defeat of the Avs in game 7. They'll face the St. Louis Blues. Ryan's the sole remaining Cornellian in the Cup fight, as Riley Nash and the Blue Jackets dropped three in a row to the Bruins to lose 4 games to 2. According to the Ivy League's tweet, Ryan is the only remaining Ivy Leaguer in the playoffs. He is seeing limited playing tiby Roy 82 - Hockey
