Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2020-01-10: Cornell at RPI - 4 years ago
BearLover Calling a hockey game is extremely difficult. I thought he did a fine job for a student. RPI looks better this year. They definitely are playing better than the last several years. That's all I can ask for. With the ECAC, except for a few teams, down this year, we should be able get home ice in the first round of the playoffs. If we can win the first round, which the home team isby ursusminor - Hockey

CU2007 ACM I can deal with a guy who can't keep up with the play. I have a problem with a guy who doesn't read the line chart or the pronunciation guide properly. I mean, they teach reading in what, the second grade these days? Personally I’m enjoying watching Driven and Ragoosh He doesn't pronounce all of the RPI players' names correctly either. E.g., DiGrande, whose name he has pronounced sby ursusminor - Hockey

KenP Reminder there is free, high quality video from RPI: As an RPI fan, I hope that you are correct. The last home game vs. UMA two weeks ago was IMO the worst that I have seen in an RPI-TV production in the years they have been filming. We blamed it on the fact that the school was on break and they may not have had a complete crew. Hopefully, that was the case.by ursusminor - Hockey

andyw2100 Trotsky The AD should design an enticement for 6:30. I don't know what The Kids are into these days. Heavy drugs and full frontal? Those are timeless. For at least a couple of games this season there were email announcements ahead of time offering a free slice of pizza for students who arrived by 6:30 PM. (And yes, that did remind me of Colgate and the way they bribed their studentby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
ugarte never mind. instead let's talk about Harvard in free fall and RPI beating Clarkson in Potsdam. Of course, RPI will probably follow that with a loss to SLU tomorrow. When Cornell plays in Potsdam, do the refs seem quite biased for the home team?by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: 2020-21 Schedule - 4 years ago
Thanks for posting this. It is always greatly appreciated. I am shocked and quite happy that it is Union that has to move one of their Harvard games instead of RPI next season.by ursusminor - Hockey

Swampy ursusminor In case anyone is interested, Tom Reale came out of hibernation to post a list of RPI's top ten games of the last 10 years. I guess that he has some time on his hands since he lost his mayoral bid. It includes one game vs. Cornell. Interesting, though not surprising, that RPI won all ten games. Sometimes your team can lose a great game, as in Cornell’s triple-overtime loss toby ursusminor - Hockey

Trotsky Beeeej Trotsky ECAC teams seem to struggle in early games against power conference opponents. For Ivies this makes sense -- Ivy game n is often non-Ivy opponent's game n + 4. Those differences are most pronounced early. It doesn't explain non-Ivy ECAC members' struggles. Isn't the differential 7? Ivy limit 29, ECAC limit 32, others limit 36? Or am I remembering wrong? RPI plays Brock University this weekend. I thought that some posters might find this Rensselaer-Brock history interesting. I do wonder what RPI's coach who is Canadian and the Canadian players will think.by ursusminor - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Trotsky ACM ACM We have captains. And a new director of hockey operations as well.Huh. That resume has "successor" written all over it. But where? Not D-1 anyway. Love that he was a pp specialist. Moar, plz. WTF is a Director of Hockey Operations? Chief Scout? Much more mundane. He deals with travel and game films.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
IMO, Neutral Zone overemphasizes quantity compared to quality. Also there are some errors in who is included although this has improved as the season progressed. E.g., for RPI, Simon Kjellberg is missing. For Cornell, they include Berard, B. Tupker, Malone, Stienburg, Muzyka, Malinski, Dirven, Mitchell, and Z. Tupker. (Ordered by given name.)by ursusminor - Hockey

Re: 2019 TBRW Awards - 5 years ago
Trotsky Oates: Owen Savory (RPI). Denied us three points, practically single-handedly. Not that I know who the other contenders would be, but it would not surprise if an RPI goaltender, Lovisa Selander, would also have won this award if you gave awards for women's hockey. It's too bad that neither RPI team is able to score goals.by ursusminor - Hockey

BearLover RichH imafrshmn Yeah, I don’t see any offsides. Topher let his partisanship show with his immediate “should have been offsides” comment To be fair, the RPI play-by-play guy said something like "should be offsides, but they play on..." All skaters clearly touched up and were onside. I didn't realize the play-by-play guy was the same bozo who claimed in the game at RPI a few mby ursusminor - Hockey

A post on USCHO states that both the CHN and USCHO predictors treat the B1G and WCHA on campus tourney games as neutral site. The poster and I both wonder if this is correct. It, of course, can matter.by ursusminor - Hockey

imafrshmn Sad fact of the day: a reported 585 people witnessed the historically long Princeton-Brown Game 2, which was fewer than attended 4 of the D-III women’s games and 2 of the D-III men’s games yesterday (NCAA round of 8). Only 484 attended the women’s Hockey East semi of Northeastern at Providence (the host). I guess Providence ain’t a hockey town. Undoubtedly there were even a lot fewerby ursusminor - Hockey

adamw ursusminor I assume that Adam didn't major in math or another scientific or engineering field, not that it is necessary to be a scientist to have interest in bracketology and how PWR works. I'm not sure whether you are intending that as a criticism or not - because I can't figure out why you brought it up. The answer is no, but then again, neither did Bill James.
