Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2019-12-07: Cornell at Dartmouth - 4 years ago
Too soon to start making excuses. Hockey is NOT a game of chance - unless Cornell's one goal in 40 shots was a lucky goal?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: 2019-12-07: Cornell at Dartmouth - 4 years ago
The loss to Dartmouth was not due to injuries, poor ice, or any other physical factor as far as I have heard. The mental "quality" of the team at Dartmouth is suspect.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Calling All Cowbell Alums / State of the Cowbell - 4 years ago
Just record cowbells on your cellphones and everybody press the button on three?! You people have to keep up with the times.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
Soon the Cambridge-Boston streets & roads will devolve into a permanent Gordian Gridlock and Boston-area athletes will have to walk to the airport carrying their hockey gear. The armada of corporate helicopters will preclude escape by air for lowly college-level athletes. Wait and see.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Future Recruits (not incoming) - 4 years ago
Nice article about Barron in the latest "College Hockey News" post.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
At a glance it appears Cornell has played opponents close until late in the second period. Is this primarily because of Cornell's depth of talent or Cornell's style of play?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Cornell's newest ranking saves me a lot of trouble. You have no idea much time I have wasted over 55 years of scrolling down through the rankings.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Don Cherry fired - 4 years ago
At least Canadians never supported Don Cherry and his sissy bulldog for Parliament or Prime Minister, like Americans supported his soulmate in the U.S.A.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: MSG: Red Hot Hockey - 4 years ago
A society mediated by juries of peers and by judges is infinitely preferable to a society mediated by lawyers. Harvard is currently rated #1 in the ECAC; Cornell is tied for second place. Betcha this ranking was done by lawyers, not juries of the people.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: MSG: Red Hot Hockey - 4 years ago
Lawyers do not think. They scheme. "Think like a lawyer" is an oxymoron - sorta like "Harvard hockey star".by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Brown - 4 years ago
I have next year's PWR ratings if anyone is interested.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Brown/Yale Weekend News - 4 years ago
There are many universities that look upon college athletes as a revenue source and not much more. This revenue hopefully improves education and lowers tuition at these schools. The Ivies occasionally take a different path - or more often a path down the middle. Academic endowments make up some of the difference.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: An early look at 2019-2020 - 4 years ago
Utica College recognizes RPI as a high school? . In addition to their hockey program Utica College must have a spectacular academic program. U.C. for me!!by osorojo - Hockey
Re: An early look at 2019-2020 - 4 years ago
The athletic success of a college athlete is about as reliable indicator of his/her success in professional sports as the academic success of a college student is an indicator of his/her success in the world of business.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
Ned Harkness managed to muster a decent offense at RPI?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
Heresy perhaps, but is there a site which rates coaching staffs or coaches of D-1 ECAC men's hockey teams, something beyond W-L? Yeah, it would be quite subjective, just like rating hockey players.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: An early look at 2019-2020 - 5 years ago
Personnel alone are not a reliable indicator of success. In evidence of this look at the remarkable transformation the Brown hockey team underwent halfway through last season. Strategy, conditioning and even corny old team spirit are significant variables.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Providence - 5 years ago
Passing the puck is a lot easier and faster than carrying it. The larger the ice surface the further defenders have to skate - IF the attacking team spreads out and passes the puck.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Providence - 5 years ago
I did not see the game - a mixed blessing. What, if any, observable changes in strategy did Cornell use to capitalize on the width of the ice?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Providence - 5 years ago
The "distinct kicking motion" was directed at the rear of Cornell's breezers.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Providence - 5 years ago
What is Cornell's record this year when the opponent scores the first goal? I worry.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Northeastern - 5 years ago
One added benefit while you risk your 100 nickels in a slot machine: you will be surrounded by the shrewdest leading geniuses in your vicinity.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls 2018-19 - 5 years ago
Polls are an attempt to determine the future by studying the past. I can't imagine a worse way for an athletic team to achieve success.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: ECAC Finals: Clarkson 3 Cornell 2 (OT) - 5 years ago
Looks like Cornell played a good game - but they lost. The chief result of excuses is to justify losing. I would prefer to read specific suggestions as to how Cornell could play better hockey as a team?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: ECAC SF Lake Placid: Brown vs. Cornell - 5 years ago
These 5 minute collapses, are they due to personnel, preparation, or are they just the gods messing around?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: ECAC QF Game 1: Union 3 Cornell 2 - 5 years ago
You know things are going bad when comments about the band, good or bad, begin to replace comments about team performance in playoff games.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: 2019-02-22: RPI 3 Cornell 2 (ot) - 5 years ago
Since before the season began Cornell hockey has has been told it is a good team. Good teams score pretty goals. Winning teams score goals.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: 2019-02-22: RPI 3 Cornell 2 (ot) - 5 years ago
All year long Cornell has been told it is a good team. Good teams score pretty goals. Winning teams score goals.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: 2019-02-22: RPI 3 Cornell 2 (ot) - 5 years ago
Not passing (not looking) in the offensive or defensive end is symptomatic of unfamiliar offensive and defensive pairing or poor coaching, or both.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Brown - 5 years ago
We are talking genotype-phenotype here, not opinions, which vary wildly. People who act like a jackass don't actually become a jackass.by osorojo - Hockey
