Also, the NCHC was supposed to make some "big announcement" yesterday. I have not been able to find any reports of their announcement.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Generic Off Season Thread - 12 years ago
adamw @Rich - league tournament location might be far down on the list - but it's not that, per se, as much it is the impression that it gives. Call it subconscious, or call me crazy - either way - your mileage may vary. I agree with Rich. Unless the ECAC played in some destination city that was entirely outside the footprint of the conference and therefore warranted particular attention, I doby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Josh '99 (At first I thought it was vs. Cornell, but as far as I can tell, Cornell has never had a vertical stripe on the pants.) Cornell did at one time. Also, in the video I made before the ECAC Tournament, one can see the stripe still on the pants during the 1996 ECAC Championship Final footage. However, you're right, it is Harvard.by Aaron M. Re: Generic Off Season Thread - Schafer to the pros? - 12 years ago
billhoward Usually when the off-season thread loses steam, someone raises the spectre of Mike Schafer being recruited to the pros, or some cash-rich (before legal fees) places such as Penn State or The Ohio State offering him $500K and rights to hire the woman riding the back of Bobby Petrino's motorcycle. Ohio State would just buy the woman and the motorcycle and give it to him, so that's whyby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Scersk '97 According to Denver, we're there 01/04/2013 and 01/05/2013. So, one slot that we think is for the Michigan game at MSG is left formally.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Generic Off Season Thread - 12 years ago
Trotsky Aaron M. GriffinThe reason why I would argue that this year felt psychologically closer was because Cornell entered as the lowest seed in the bracket, knocked off a team that many had said would be the only legitimate challenger to BC in the title game, and advanced to play a lower seed than the opponent that Cornell had beaten already.Another reason it may have felt "closer" isby Aaron M. Re: Generic Off Season Thread - 12 years ago
adamw Aaron M. GriffinWhy need we become complacent with the level of success that the ECAC has? BTW - Cornell has been even closer to the FF a bunch of times in the last 10 years - so using them as a yardstick is not saying much. Cornell has always been the standard bearer, sometimes by itself. Getting Union to the FF is the only thing different about this year compared to anything else in theby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

jtn27 Yes, why not Lynah? They should hold it at the site of the highest seed, as long as that arena has a predetermined minimum number of seats. If the 1 seed doesn't have a big enough arena, then have it at the highest seed that does. If no arena has enough seats (How likely is this? What is the seating of each ECAC hockey rink?) then hold it at a neutral site (Lynah). Houston Field House (RPby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

adamw Jim Hyla No, no ,no no, no. So what we need is a place that looks good on our resume? WTF for? So we can stand up to North Dakota? The best, and only, way is to win. Look, we are never going to be them, nor should we try. We need a place where everyone can go, that means families, not AC; and where everyone can get to, meaning not LP. I refuse to remind others and myself of the results of a particular game that appears in the subject line of the previous thread where we discussed future ECAC venues, so, I moved the conversation to here. nyc94 Trotsky jtn27 RichH The NCAA requires teams moving to Division I to undergo a 2-year "transition" period where they are ineligible for NCAA post-season play. What's the logic behind that rule? I highly doubt that a first or second year DI program could make the playoffs, but if they were good enough they should be eligible. Not sure, but IIRC a consequence of the rule when RIT elby Aaron M. Re: Generic Off Season Thread - 12 years ago
I was curious about the reasoning behind a comment made in a recent USCHO article about Penn State's transition to NCAA Division I. Jim Connelly Penn State will play a season as an independent and will not be eligible for NCAA tournament play, but Guy Gadowsky’s team will be playing against the big boys for the first time in the school’s history. Why will Penn State be ineligible next year?by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Someone mentioned it and inquired about it somewhere, but it's official, B1G Hockey will use a rotation between Saint Paul, MN and Detroit, MI for its tournament host site. Right now, it looks like the B1G Hockey Tournament will be hosted in Saint Paul on even years and Detroit on odd years.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
Interesting analysis of what would have been the revenues of each conference had realignment occurred prior to the 2009-10 season. Cornell nets the seventh best total of all NCAA Division I programs with $585,585.00. Unsurprisingly, B1G Hockey, without the addition of Penn State hockey revenues, was the greatest with a net total of $3.6 million. NCHC would have netted $3.2 million. The ECAC wouldby Aaron M. KeithK Jim Hyla “We are in balance now,” Lehrman said. “So we reasoned that if we’re going to add 26 more participants on the male side, we have to get to approximately 26 . Maybe we can get by with 25 and it wouldn’t throw us out of whack, but something very, very close to that.” He says that they are currently in compliance, so if they are going to add 25-27 men's scholarship positions, theby Aaron M. Ben MattS jtn27I seriously doubt the women's team will ever sell out. They had a decent showing this year for the playoffs, but I went to a few regular season games too and Lynah was mostly empty and almost completely devoid of students. Jim Hyla So now Union's coach, Bennett, is a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, otherwise known as national coach of the year. Since their former coach won it last year, it only seems fair that he gets it this year. He might have been nominated but he didn't win. TheMatrix Toronto was unable to hold the lead and lost 6-5 in OT. Scrivens mishandled the puck behind the net a handful of times, but didn't give up a goal on those flubs. I thought he was very strong in the 2nd against an all but absent Toronto defense. Definitely some weird calls from the officials, including a huge, lengthy scrum (I think everyone but Miller was in the crease) leading to Buffaby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
