css228 As someone who wasn't alive when the miracle happened, I have to say I'm really excited that we're going to be in LP my senior year if we make the ECAC Final Four. However I'm glad it starts in my senior year because I really don't want to make that trip twice. Well that and I want to be making another trip in the general direction of AC in early April, and not just to see the folks. Intby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Robb We also lost a play-in game in 1998 and won a play-in game in 2000, so those are two of the "missing" games. Not sure about the other 2-4-0 record, though - was there ever a regular season tournament held there? kingpin248 The Big Red's record in the 1993-2002 ECAC championships in Lake Placid is actually 7-5. Your accounting omits the 1998 (loss) and 2000 (win) "preliminarby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Generic Off Season Thread - 11 years ago
The athletic website article references the following in its recent comments about the move to Lake Placid: The Big Red holds an 11-9 all-time record at Herb Brooks Olympic Arena... Leaving out the fact that it was not "Herb Brooks Arena" until 2005 when the ECAC was no longer a tenant, what other games account for the alleged 11-9-0 record? The Arena hosted the 1994-2002 ECAC Chamby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Trotsky Al DeFlorioLP is a one-horse town...and barely that. When that one horse shows up, they milk attendees for all they can get.Doesn't that make it a "one cow town"? I'm not one for mixed metaphors, but I think it would be only a one-cow town if Harvard were the only team in town. Considering in Al's metaphor, the attendees are the cow(s) and hockey is the one "dog and ponyby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Trotsky The far more important fact is that Cornell now has only one chance to win in Atlantic City. Given that Cornell has won in every ECAC host city, that makes 2012-13 a must win season! That's what I have been saying for some time now. 13 in '13.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 11 years ago
All of the teams of the ECAC have announced their schedules. I tabulated the out-of-conference opponents that each team will play and I calculated the number of games that ECAC teams have against teams from other conferences. Surprisingly, ECAC teams will play more Hockey East teams than Atlantic Hockey teams this season. Sullivan from USCHO.com commented last season how Atlantic Hockey teams areby Aaron M. French Rage Is it me, or does it seem like an inordinate number of senior weekends have been the Union/RPI weekend over the last few years? From what I remember from memory, 2010 was against RPI, 2011 was against Dartmouth, and 2012 was against RPI.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

More from Willcox. He will play in the Flyers Prospect Camp scrimmage tomorrow. I know that the Rangers streamed the scrimmage at the end of their camp, but the Flyers website is unclear whether they will stream their scrimmage. The scrimmage is Saturday at 9:00 am.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

RatushnyFan Yes it can. Simply by changing topics. See p. 47 of Strunk & White's new book on posting on the Internet. The most recent edition notes how most media have abandoned the historical convention of capitalizing "internet" when referring to "the Internet." The word internet, without capitalization, is now the preferred form of the noun.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

jtn27 Does anyone know when the official schedule will be released? I thought it was usually out by now. Cornell, Harvard, and Princeton have not announced for what it's worth. Also, I think it is out by now usually. It was out last season by this time.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Trotsky pfibigerI imagine this means Mitch Gillam will accelerate and come in this year instead of next (assuming he's already been admitted and deferred).Very interesting. Gillam is the second-oldest of the non-Fall prospects (after Woody). He turns 20 in September and is almost 2 years younger than Willcox and Stoick. This in turn sets up the recruiting for the next goaltending "blueby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Jim Hyla 4 tickets in the mail today, section 104 row 13. Labeled $65. I got mine on Saturday. Supposedly, Michigan fans have been buying up some in our section(s) and they find it amusing that their ticket prices are cheaper than ours.by Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

David Harding The Ithaca Journal reviews the Cornell draftees this morning. Staff report Incoming Cornell hockey freshman Reece Willcox, along with Big Red sophomores-to-be John McCarron and Joakim Ryan, were selected over the weekend in the annual NHL Entry Draft. Cornell was the only ECAC Hockey school to have three players drafted. That gives the 2012-13 Big Red eight NHL draft picks on itby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Trotsky Aaron M. GriffinYale has no national championships, one Frozen Four appearance, five NCAA appearances, and two ECAC Championships. Cornell and Harvard are great programs, Yale is not even close. There was also 50 years of college hockey before the NCAA tournament, but IINM Yale was not a hockey power during that time either. Re: Top players that are still not committed - 11 years ago
Robb Does Cornell have a great hockey program? If so, what sets us apart from them? Our resume is not all that different than Harvard's when it comes right down to it. 12-8 in tournament titles, 8-8 in season titles, 8-12 in Frozen Four appearances, 2-1 in NCAA championships (and ours are pretty stale), etc. You'd have to draw a pretty fine line to get one of us above and the other below. Has there been any news on this front? John Foote ’74, who wrote Touchdown: The Story of the Cornell Bear, wants to build a monument on campus to honor the original four Touchdowns — black bear cubs that were brought to Cornell beginning in 1915. From Cornellians Push for Bear’s Place on Campus A group of Cornell alumni have proposed building a statue to commemorate Touchdown the Bear -- Coby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

RichH marty RichH Voted on today. Looks as though it's all but formally announced. That leaves the Alabama-Huntsville decision as the last domino standing from the whole BTHC fallout. Edit: CHN filed this, same author: I missing something. Alabama-Huntsville was odd man out before the whole shift and they are still out of any league. The Cornell-Sucks rivalry is mentioned on Midtown Badgers's college sports bucket list. Other than the description of the rivalry, it is interesting how the author recounts college hockey history entirely inaccurately. Andrew Coppens Wisconsin fans should be well versed by just how good Cornell can be as they stopped the Badgers hopes of winning yet another national title in 2010 in the NCAAby Aaron M. TimV Jeez. VIP seats sold out at 10:10. Best I could do was section 104-105 rows 3-14. Hope I get an upper row at least. Let's hope that this is a good indication about attendance.
