Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ECAC as we go into finals - 12 years ago
Is there any statistical reason other than height (which I think is an illegitimate consideration with all else being equal) that the Team USA officials choose to play Campbell over Ilese? I am somewhat disappointed if there is no other reason why Iles cannot don the Team USA jersey this season. I am proud to have Iles represent the United States even if it affects adversely Cornell's season. I kby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

css228 Little worried about Estero without Andy in net. Are we sure that he will accept the invitation to represent the United States at the 2012 World Junior Championships like he did last season? That assumes that he will be invited. He might make a different decision considering he is not in a rotation like he was last year and how Cornell really needs the pairwise boost after the losses toby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Consecutive shutout minutes at Lynah? - 12 years ago
Fair point. That takedown was one of the highlights of Scrivens's career at Cornell. I don't mind Colgate or Colgate hockey, I just find it curious that they think there is some history between us that clearly we do not acknowledge. Neither Harvard nor BU can deny that we have relevant history that lends itself to the development of a rivalry. I have never found anyone from Colgate who could justby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

css228 Maybe they're being mislead by the toothpaste boxes we throw on the ice when they come here. That seems like something a "rival" would do. Don't they throw Big Red gum at us when we play at Starr? I've never been to a game up there, but I have heard they do that. Now, I thought that the toothpaste was for some suggestive clues about dental hygiene for their team. We really shouby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

I think that the Colgate-Cornell rivalry is one-sided. I have a friend from Upstate who is not a Cornellian but who follows college hockey, and she was shocked that Colgate considers itself a rival of ours. Colgate fans seem convinced that we care. I think that we might be forced to care this year with the fact that Cornell and Colgate have taken a formidable lead in the ECAC standings during theby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Jersey Mockups - 12 years ago
As stated, the elegance of the Cornell hockey sweater is in both its elegant simplicity and its history. It resembles the jerseys worn throughout Cornell history, even though there have been slight changes, they all are throwbacks to the original jerseys of Cornell in the modern era. Not caring about the tradition of Cornell hockey is antithetical to most of Cornell, and all collegiate hockey, faby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

css228 ...is anyone else incredibly excited for Colgate-Cornell weekend? My thoughts exactly. It should be an interesting second half of the season. Other than the current ECAC standings, does anyone else see Colgate as a traditional rival of Cornell on par with the likes of BU and Harvard? Colgate makes a lot of what they think is the Colgate-Cornell rivalry, but while I was on the Hill, Iby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Cornell Thanksgiving & Christmas hockey - 12 years ago
Thanks. I'd love to see us play Michigan but the airfare condition seems condescending on the part of the Wolverines. Perhaps I am wrong, but such conditions seem insulting and should be uncommon. css228 I read that they're trying to get Michigan out here but Red Berenson wants us to pay a chartered flight for him From where are you reading this? I cannot find anything online about it, admittedly, I just Googled it quickly. I have found that attendance during a Cornell-Michigan series at Yost in 1991 still holds records for both top weekend and top series attendance at Michigan. Cleby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

css228 ...a guy so ignorant that he called Cornell a "rising power" a few weeks ago. Give Joshua Boyd a break. We all cannot be as astute as we commentators on ELynah are. It's also Boyd's first year following the ECAC. He has many things to learn. Iles led the team last season to 60% of its wins during the second semester when it was turning its season around from its abysmal performance during the first half of the season. He sits after only his freshman year at seventh in SV% and ninth in GAA all-time in Cornell hockey history. That in itself is impressive for a freshman. Ryan Kennedy covered this topic a couple of days ago for The Hockey News in his blog. I stated in a much earlier posts opinions that are similar to his. He ends the article with stating: Ryan Kennedy The question now is whether hockey would ever consider starting an Ivy League conference - only Columbia and Pennsylvania are missing right now. Re: Cu - 0 Yale - ECAC finals (postgame) - 13 years ago
Kyle Rose Aaron M. Griffin I agree with your argument but not necessarily the Schafer-must-go conclusion that likely follows. The fact that Cornell has not been able to respond to Yale's rise or its system in any meaningful way is very alarming. If Cornell hockey and Schafer, as a coach, want to remain relevant in college hockey, both must come up with a response to Yale's system. GAAAAH! I'm jby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Cu - 0 Yale - ECAC finals (postgame) - 13 years ago
Kyle Rose I doubt Cornell will beat Yale 4-2, 4-1, and 6-0 next year, embarrassing them in the process. You and I are simply going to have to disagree on the core point: the problem is not that Yale is so insanely talented but that in four years of Yale's building their system around that talent the Cornell coaching staff has not figured out a way to make Cornell consistently competitive againstby Aaron M. jtwcornell91 I would put Winning the ECACs somewhere on a list of successes. Winning the ECACs should always be a goal. It seems that people take it for granted that Cornell will make the ECAC Semifinals each year and walk into another ECAC title. I guess that they have forgotten that there have been periods when that even seemed an unattainable goal for Cornell. jtwcornell91 Also, talk tby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

Towerroad css228 ajh258 I'm disappointed that we have such low standards. No wonder student attendance has been declining. As a current student I can tell you the exact reason why student attendance has been declining. Re: Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
Garman was amazing last night from what I saw on CBS College Sports. Sadly, I could not make the trip over to Atlantic City. There was no better time for him to hit a career high in saves and post his first shutout than last night. Well, save for maybe tonight... I think Schafer will stay with the rotation. However, that would put a lot of pressure on Iles who is only a freshman to play aby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Re: Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
BigRedHockeyFan Scrivens is missed. I agree completely, but so are players up front like Greening and R. Nash who would generate the offense that we so desperately need. Cornell's defense and Iles played superbly in Game Two against Quinnipac. There was just no offensive production. Scrivens might have been able to hold Quinnipiac longer and given Cornell a chance in overtime. That is theby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey
Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
I have been to four games this season (law school tends to get in the way of my trips to Lynah). Iles has been between the pipes for all of them. So, I have not had the chance to witness Garman playing firsthand. Garman has looked impressive lately against Yale in New Haven and then in Game Three against Quinnipiac. According to the poll on here, we prefer generally Iles over Garman. I belonby Aaron M. Griffin - Hockey

RatushnyFan Let me rephrase - it would be horrendous for all the existing rivalries and it would be horrendous for the remaining pieces of the CCHA and WCHA if it happens. It might mean more money for the Big Ten conference schools, but it would be disappointing in many ways. What's so bad about the status quo?
