Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell football 2023 - 4 months ago
Ken711 Want a logical replacement for Archer. Look no further that U. of Penn's Offensive Coordinator Dan Swanstrom. He was went 32-11 (.744) and his teams registered eight wins in all four seasons in which they took led Ithaca College as their head coach. Knows the Ivy League, was a former head coach, and has even lived in the Ithaca area. You got it right!by George64 - Other Sports

Trotsky That's why it's such a pleasure to come across that 1%. I grew up reading Red Smith in the New York Herald Tribune. Not a bad model for an aspiring sports writer.by George64 - Hockey

marty Trotsky David Harding The Sun reported the game in great detail That is a great write up. Good job to those writers. And the Cornell highlight crew did a great job here! The post game interview is worth a watch too. Both really great! Thanks!by George64 - Hockey

Dafatone Nicely done. The game winner was a beauty. Hopefully, this will be the start of a nice run for Psenicka.by George64 - Hockey

Re: Cornell in the Movies - 5 months ago
Not exactly Cornell in the Movies, but this morning I heard a song by the Chapin Brothers, Blood Water, that explicitly mentions Cornell. In the Spring of 1964, at Cornell University a young girl fell 98 feet to her death in one of the gorges adjoining the campus It is the custom at Spring Weekend For the faternities to dye the gorges a color And that year it happened to be red. BearLoverI am also sympathetic to the argument that Archer’s replacement, unless he is a Cornell alum or otherwise has strong ties to Ithaca, will immediately jump to a better program if he finds success at Cornell. Regarding the new hire immediately jumping to a better program, he should take a look at alumnus Jim Hofher’s career after leaving Cornell to become QB coach at North Carolina. Ken711 George64 scoop85 On Parker’s website (that’s the search company), they say their average turn around time on a head coaching search is 10-14 days. I assume that’s the timeframe for identifying recommended candidates. Considering that Archer’s departure and choice of a search firm were announced simultaneously, I think both decisions were made prior to the Columbia game. I agree with yoby George64 - Other Sports

George64 Al DeFlorio George64 To Martha Pollack, I say “It’s all your fault!, It’s all your fault!” After all, she was president when former engineering student and mentally ill Patrick Dai was admitted. Everything's poor Martha's fault: snow, ice, headaches, tough prelims, every sports loss. After all, she wasn't popular at Michigan and someone thought she was a bit different as an undergraduby George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

From the NYT, 11/17: “The federal government opened discrimination investigations this week into half a dozen universities, including Columbia, Cooper Union and Cornell in New York, following complaints about antisemitic and anti-Muslim harassment after the Israel-Hamas war broke out. Since the start of the war on Oct. 7, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has also oby George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

Ken711 Syracuse just fired their head coach Dino Barbers. Maybe he wants to stay in upstate NY. Babers was 19-7 at Eastern Illinois and 18-9 at Bowling Green. Might be a good fit at Cornell.by George64 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football coach - 5 months ago
George64 Cornell football, under David Archer, is now assured of yet another losing season even if we beat Columbia (by no means a given). Archer should now do the right thing and resign. In PR-speak “to pursue other career options.” Like I said, “by no means a given.” Archer needs to pursue other career options.by George64 - Other Sports

ugarte mike1960 A real chance at victory today, my friends.damn this is a rough first post to see as i've been watching the game while typing up the wrestling season preview and right after the columbia backup qb ran for a 65-yard touchdown, flat outrunning the defensive backs. at least while i was typing this columbia took a point off the board when they accepted an offsides call on the xp thenby George64 - Other Sports

dag14 Cornell blows away Sacred Heart 48-3 -- 45 minutes from start to finish including intros and national anthem. No match at 125, no halftime, and barely any breaks between matches. And Arujau didn’t wrestle. If he did, it would have been 54-0.by George64 - Other Sports
