Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell football 2018 - 5 years ago
I watched the game on ESPN+ and it seemed that there were many commercial breaks. According to box scores, the SHU game ran for 3:10 and last week's Yale game ran 3:15. In contrast, the first two games on IDN last year, Colgate and Bucknell, ran for 2:41 and 2:36, respectively. Presumably, the many and lengthy commercials accounted for the extra 34 minutes per game. I hope that this trend doesby George64 - Other Sports

Few news and notes to pass along in the college lacrosse world.First, heard it's a done deal between TD Ierlan and Cornell. Waiting for an official announcement from Cornell or Ierlan to confirm it himself. Heard multiple rumors prior, but @Marisa_Ingemi first reported this.— Chris Jastrzembski (@CFJastrzembski) June 16, 2018by George64 - Other Sports

dbilmes I'd also like to find out what happened when Milliman pulled Knight for a few minutes in the second quarter. I haven't seen anything about that in any of the post-match coverage. There was a one minute penalty against Knight for slashing. Oops - I responded before I saw the subsequent discussion.by George64 - Other Sports

billhoward Lax media poll has Cornell 7th (+2 positions) and Syracuse, our NCAA tournament host team 11th (+1). Maryland is the new #1, and former #1 Yale is down to 4th. Albany is 2, Duke 3. The last team in the tournament, Villanova, is seeded 13th and ranked by the 17th. The teams left out are ranked: 13. Rutgers 14. UMass 15. TOSU 16. Weder Every Ivy League conference-controlled regular season game held at an Ivy League institution arena will be available, with the majority exclusively on ESPN+. What’s an Ivy League conference-controlled regular season game? Does that include games/matches at Cornell against non-Ivy teams that are now carried on ILDN?by George64 - Hockey

mountainred I don't blame him for seeing where his stock is. But the tone of the earlier tweet sure sounds final. And a lot more final than last year's announcement. “It’s more putting my name on the radar in case next year or the year after that I decide to do this again,” Morgan told The Sun. “Of course, if I can go this year, I will, but we’ll see what happens.” Most recent statement inby George64 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio Pannell and Bertrand were "true" freshmen when they arrived on campus. Freshmen did not play varsity sports in the Bertrand undergraduate era but rules changed so Pannell did...as a "true" freshman, regardless of his so-called postgraduate year at Deerfield. The point I tried to make, but unsuccessfully, was that “true” is unnecessary. Malia, Pannell, Bertranby George64 - Other Sports

Re: Wrestling [2017-18] - 6 years ago
billhoward Yeah, congratulations, and Ugarte you've in your joy fallen to the NCAA BS term "true freshman." That's a sort of retronym, like corded drill or (thank you Wm Safire) English-language radio. There's "freshman" and "redshirt freshman." UgarteIt is a retronym, but it's necessary. Why would you have anything against retronyms? Once redshirts become ubiquitby George64 - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling [2017-18] - 6 years ago
ugarte With ~20 seconds left, Meredith took another shot and Yianni was able to counter and not only take Meredith down but expose his back to the mat for a 2 count and two back points to go up 7-4, then hold on for the final 10 seconds for the win. Dramatic and unbelievable. I can't believe we have three more years of this guy. What a poised young man - in the match, in the post-match intervieby George64 - Other Sports
