Re: ECAC Final - St. Lawrence?! - 4 weeks ago
Marian Mosko from Visolaje, Slovakia got ice time last night. I don’t know if Ondrej Psenicka was on the ice at the same time, but for this key game, the two parts of former Czechoslovakia were reunited.by George64 - Hockey

ER I’ve never heard it called Czechia. It sounds too much like Chechnya Look at Ondrej‘s bio.by George64 - Hockey

ER Wow those are some bold, completely unsubstantiated projections. I was in the Greek system and never knew of or saw anyone “doing coke” at a party. I don’t even think it was a thing when I was in school. Way to perpetuate the rumors that all Greeks like to do is party though. When I was a Greek, coke was something you mixed with rum to get your date drunk. Seriously though, while thereby George64 - Hockey
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 4 weeks ago
mountainred Over on the basketball-u board, a Princeton poster asserted that the W&M hoops budget is twice that of Cornell's (2mil+ v. 1mil+). So, Brian probably got a nice raise and access to more resources and is in charge of the clear #1 winter sport there. Until Ned arrived, basketball was the premier winter sport. That’s no longer true, and probably won’t be again.by George64 - Other Sports
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 4 weeks ago
I, for one, have fond memories of Lake Placid. I was there in 1970, when we completed our 27-O-0 season by besting Clarkson 6-4 in the NCAA finals, after beating Wisconsin 2-1 in the semis. We met and chatted with Dick Bertrand, who was ineligible to play, while in town. We reserved hotel rooms shortly after Cornell’s first ECAC game at Lynah, we looked that good! BTW, Clarkson was still Clby George64 - Hockey

RichH “The time of the University of Vermont Victory Parade to the Arena has been changed from 3pm to noon.” Reminds me of an unfortunately prescient headline in the November 7, 2016 edition of the NY Post - Clinton calls off Election Night fireworks.by George64 - Hockey

Mr. Niss Brian Earl has resigned to take the head coaching job at William & Mary. Do you think that Manon, Gray et al will become grad students at W & M?by George64 - Other Sports

Re: Women 2023-24 - 5 weeks ago
upprdeck Wait. Put some thought and effort into this? Athletics Doesn't help the men are home vs Harvard though this weekend. Hockey fans are gonna go for that first. Women’s game is at 2, men’s at 7. Leave Ithaca at noon, leave Hamilton around 4:30ish. Check hoops on your tablet. Lax isn’t until Sunday.by George64 - Hockey
Re: Women 2023-24 - 6 weeks ago
Our Athletic Department should charter a couple of buses and get some fans to Hamilton to support our WIH team! 7-1 over Stonehill!by George64 - Hockey
Re: NCAA NIL/Subdivision Proposal - 6 weeks ago
Weder A look at NIL and the Ivies from the Washington Post, using Harvard basketball player Malik Mack as the example of a player whose future in the league is uncertain. Gift link: I don’t know about Malik, but if someone offered me $25k at the end of my freshman year (present value $259k) to transfer to, say Stoney Brook, I’d have said goodbye to Ithaca. Of course, I would have had no wayby George64 - Other Sports

Ken711 ugarte nyc94 upprdeck Prin 2-0 vs brown takes the Ivy even if they lose They would get the #1 seed but the Ivy title is still shared, right?yes, i think so Correct. But I think Princeton takes care of business in Philly. They do, 105-83.by George64 - Other Sports

ugarteUPSET!! EIWA tournament started today. Great morning session. 174: Benny Baker WMD Jack Janda (Drexel), 15-7. Great start for Baker. He faces the 1 seed next, which isn't likely to go well for him, but he's in a position where he's got a very winnable match if he loses for a trip to NCAAs. A takedown at the buzzer turned this into a major decision win. Very nice.by George64 - Other Sports

Re: New athletic director Nicki Moore - 7 weeks ago
Local Motion So far I have been very impressed by Nicki Moore and she has a bright future on the East Hill. The Cornell AD position is a great job at a major university without the overwhelming pressure of a Power 5 Conference. Ithaca is a beautiful college town and nice for families, so we hope she is enjoying her job at Cornell. Go Big Red! She’s been terrific! I like that she communicaby George64 - Other Sports

Sometimes, I think that in an effort to be more objective, we’ve replaced sound judgement with pernicious metrics. Case in point, we’ve replaced “smoke-filled” rooms with unrepresentative primaries, and look what we got, but I digress. Back to important stuff. Some teams start slowly and peak at the right time, others peak too early. Tournament inclusion and seedings should take accountby George64 - Hockey

ugarte scoop85 George64 I’ve watched and rewatched our two extra-man goals against SLU, 6 skaters versus 5. More players clogging up the ice than on our power plays, yet we scored twice in 91 seconds. What was different? IMO, a greater sense of urgency! We didn’t dick around looking for the perfect set up. We didn’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Excellent pointthe counterpoint,by George64 - Hockey

Swampy IIRC, the GPA of my graduating class in Engineering in the late 1960s was 2.7. In the early ‘60s, the all-men’s average was about 2.7, the all-women’s a bit higher. I recall scoring in the high 20s on an exam and beating the class average.by George64 - Hockey
