CU77 George64 CU77 billhoward The ultimate rule change may yet be: Other team gets the ball after a goal. It has been proposed, not sure how seriously. It was tried one year in the late 70s. I hope never to see it again. Why? Because it's boring, and because the face-off is one of lax's distintive features. We don't need to make every game a basketball clone. jtwcornell91 Trotsky Iceberg Some kind of bizarre situation with Mankato/Bemidji. OT goal awarded that turns out to not be a goal and the teams have already left the arena after Mankato was crowned as the CCHA conference tournament winner. Game will continue in OT at some pointI guess the Mavs eventually won again. This is really the reductio ad absurdum of this video replay business. Theby George64 - Hockey

On February 2, 1972, Clarkson defeats the Big Red, 4-2, at Lynah Rink, snapping Cornell's 63-game home winning streak, a record that still stands as the longest home winning streak in NCAA history.by George64 - Hockey
Tragedy in Ukraine - 2 years ago
The invasion of Ukraine hits home for Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars. Fred Frank ‘79, mentioned in a recent Rochester D&C article, and other family members are Cornellians. Patriarch Konstantin Frank helped pioneer the successful introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. .by George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

BMac I for one nominate (as I do every year for alumni-elected trustee) Ben Scrivens. He’s a dedicated Cornellian. If it were to happen, he’d be the second outstanding goalie to serve as AD — Laing Kennedy ‘63 the other. .by George64 - Hockey

Swampy Maybe he'll apply for the job. I hate to be so negative about a fellow alum, but if the Peter Principle is to be taken seriously, he’s already plateaued. .by George64 - Other Sports

nshapiro But which will happen sooner - Cornell Football winning an outright Ivy title, or Cornell Hockey winning the NCAA Title...and will either happen in our lifetime? Unless there’s a coaching change, I’d bet on hockey. I’m almost 80 and I’m optimistic that I’ll be around to see it. I was at the War Memorial in Syracuse and at Lake Placid. Might have happened in 2020, but for COVID. Iby George64 - Other Sports

Trotsky I wake at night and think I hear remembered chimes. And mem'ry brings in visions clear Enchanted times. Beneath green elms with branches bowed, In springtime suns, Or touching elbows in a crowd Of eager ones. Again, I'm hurrying past the tow'rs Or with the teams, Or spending precious idling hours in golden dreams. Beautiful memories. Thank you.by George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

CU2007 What are tie breakers for the 4 spot if we end up tied? The tied teams play a best three out of five, three-on-three half-court tournament. If unresolved, consecutive rounds of H-O-R-S-E. If still not resolved, rock-paper-scissors. .by George64 - Other Sports
Re: @ RPI Fri 2/11/22 - 2 years ago
I don’t get it. Back in December, Clarkson pulled their goalie and scored three goals in the final three minutes to tie Cornell, 4-4. One shot in their open net almost certainly would have sealed the win for Cornell. Last night, Cornell had a man advantage for virtually the final five minutes of the game. When we pulled our goalie to give us a 6-4 skater advantage, RPI put two in our empty neby George64 - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2021-22 - 2 years ago
Trotsky Right now no lead is safe because we haven't proved we can win at all. At least if the team gets a couple of wins this weekend projections of minimal competence over the final 6 games will make some sense. At the moment, "if these trends continue" would project us going about 0-4-4 down the stretch (and losing all of the shootouts, naturally). Any word yet on Schaefer, Andby George64 - Hockey

ursusminor RPI received a $2M donation from Dr. Lloyd Bauer, a member of the '54 NCAA championship team, to endow the head coach position. Does anyone know how much the corresponding endowment is at Cornell? I wonder if $2M is enough, although it certainly can help a lot. I also wonder why we don't get players anymore who major in engineering, science, or architecture and then go on for a Pby George64 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
CU2007 I didn’t meet a single architecture student my entire time at Cornell. You apparently never wandered into Sibley Hall after midnight on the eve of a project submission. Back in 1960, the freshman architecture class had 60 students, out of, I think, about 1300 freshmen. .by George64 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
Iceberg IIRC Gillam was in Urban and Regional Studies. I would imagine it's a bit harder for an Architecture student to do any athletics given the academic demands and emphasis on studio time (not to mention other things such as the semester in Rome). For whatever reason, McIntyre's player profile only shows the college (AAP) and not the major, but I'd be surprised if he were in Architecture giveby George64 - Hockey

Al DeFlorio TimV Trotsky For three seasons in the 70s Cornell wore eye-gougingly ugly sweaters. I swear to Ba'al these are what ended our National dynasty. As recently as three years ago they still had one of those hanging in the locker room. The ones that followed were similarly awful. DafatoneI want to say no, since I think Regush was a year behind Galadja, but I'm too lazy to look him up. You are correct, Regush was a year behind Galadja. He’s now a senior at Miami. His goal production is down significantly from his two years at Cornell. Probably lacks the supporting cast he had here. I guess he can skate another year as a grad student at Miami. .by George64 - Hockey
