Wild first half so far. Cornell is up 28-27 with a minute remaining but squibbed the kickoff so Columbia has a short field but only a minute before halftime.

Matthews completed his first 13 passes before a receiver dropped one. A receiver dropped another pass in the end zone. Cornell has a missed FG and Columbia has a missed XP.

Squib backfires. Columbia takes advantage of the short field and scores with 12 seconds left in the half. 34-28 Lions. Halftime.

Jeff Mathews 40-46 for 517 yds 5 TDs. Really unbelievable numbers even though it was against winless Columbia. If Kent Austin can recruit some big run blocking offensive linemen and running backs to develop a running game along with a better D, Cornell has a good chance at an Ivy Championship.

Not often can you say the defense played great but gave up 41 points, but in the second half they did.

November 19: Cornell-Penn Football Game and Tailgate

Please join the Cornell Club of Greater Philadelphia and the Cornell Football Association for a pre-game tailgate party and Ivy League Football at historic Franklin Field.

We will have group tickets, a tailgate tent, catered lunches, entertainment from the Big Red Band, a guest appearance by the Cornell Bear and hopefully a winning football team. We will be located at Lot 19 at 34th and Chestnut Street and will begin the festivities at 11 am. Here's a link to Penn's parking website.

Tailgate & ticket combo is $35 for Cornell Club members; $40 for non-club members; $15 for children 12 and under. CFA members and family attend free.

Tailgate only will be $30.00 for Cornell Club members; $35.00 for non-club members; $10 for children 12 and under.

Game tickets only are $10.00. You must go to the tailgate site to pick up your tickets.

Tailgate begins at 11 am and the game begins at 1pm.

Matthews basically rewrote the single-game recordbook on Saturday; 40 completions, 517 passing yards (note that this is officially listed in the box score as 521) and 5 TD passes are all school records, as was his completion percentage for the day (.870). Additionally, after Saturday's game, Matthews has 2,864 passing yards this season, surpassing Ricky Rahne (2,762 in 1999) for the most by a Cornell sophomore.

Shane Savage tied the Cornell single-game record with 3 TD receptions, and his 199 receiving yards were second-most in school history.

Brad Greenway set a Cornell single-game record by kicking 8 extra points, and tied a record with 14 points by a kicker. He also passed Derrick Harmon for 3rd place on the all-time scoring list, behind only Ed Marinaro and Chad Levitt.

And, if you were curious, Kurt Williams tied a Columbia school record with 3 TD receptions.

Reminds me of the alternate lyrics to NCFS (which nobody has ever been banned from a game for singing, as far as I'm aware). Someone needs to get a sense of humor.

In both instances it's the truth way more often than not.... "what's the big intrigue? we're the worse in the ivy league."

Fact is the 25 piece columbia band is probably 85% or more of the columbia student support for their lousy program.
