Re: ECAC Semifinal - Dartmouth - 6 weeks ago
Swampy arugula And we’re 13 in the pwr… The problem is that if we lose, I don't think the ECAC is a three-bid league this year no matter what the pwr says. The only thing that matters is what the Pairwise says. And the Pairwise says Cornell must win tomorrow to make the NCAAs.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 6 weeks ago
billhoward Correct, the ECAC site box score has it as 3839, or 49.9% full in a 7700-seat arena, for Colgate's 3-2 win over Harvard a year ago in Placid. I never know if the site publishes tickets sold for the game or people who actually come in. I don't know any venue on the planet anymore that counts people who come in. It's always tickets sold.by adamw - Hockey
Re: What happened to PWR this year? - 6 weeks ago
DafatoneFair, but how is their record against top 20 teams, I ask, too lazy to look it up myself. I know they did really well against two of the top teams, but what about the rest. Meanwhile, we put up an extremely good record against top 20 teams. It feels vaguely unfair that a .500 record in 10 games against top teams is the same as a 1.000 record in 5 games against top teams. I made those nby adamw - Hockey

Trotsky BearLoverIf UMD had a good year they maybe would have beaten us…BearLover gets a lot of static here, and often deserves it, but this is dead solid perfect unless we beat UMD before they were decimated. OTOH, if we did, UMD later got this and we got some splattered on us. Two of the players I was referring to, did play vs. Cornell -- Cole Spicer and Zach Stejskal. Dominic James did notby adamw - Hockey
Re: What happened to PWR this year? - 6 weeks ago
arugula Also didn't help that UMD had a rough year. It was assumed, at least by me, that UMD on the schedule would help our OOC and thus our RPI/PWR. Not so much Their top player was out most of the year - another good player was ruled academically ineligible - and their No. 1 goalie also got injured. They were definitely not helpfulby adamw - Hockey
Re: What happened to PWR this year? - 6 weeks ago
upprdeck IF Cornell wins game one and loses the finals you would have to go back over 20 yrs to find the one team that didn't make it with a PWR as high as Cornells would be. And that is the year Cornell was #1 in PWR? Thats as far back as the CHN site goes. Was that year 1 of it? A few of those years the PWR could have gotten us a 2-3 seed. Did parity cause this? did the effect of theby adamw - Hockey

David Harding imafrshmn sah67 Iceberg I can tell you that ~15 years ago when I was a student, there was no such entry onto the ice after games and there was virtually no opportunity to interact with the players unless you were classmates, working with the team in a media capacity, or socially acquainted. During my undergrad days (a few years before yours), there was an annual “Skate with theby adamw - Hockey

ACM adamw Just going to chime in with my usual old man two cents - but I agree with just about everything written here - especially Trotsky's request to bring back the striptease. What a loss. And when did the post-quarters flood the ice tradition end? Covid? That's a massive shame. When the high glass was installed, making it impossible to go on the ice by climbing over the glass. scoop85 Dafatone Trotsky ugarte UNO 2, CC 1 after 2.Final: UNO 3 CC 1 I think, but I'm not sure, that that does it for our at large chances. Could be wrong. On Twitter Adam said as much Was just coming here to say that I've just been running more numbers - and yeah, can't see any way for Cornell now. Would've been very possible if Omaha lost. That was the ballgame.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 7 weeks ago
It's not impossible, or else Cornell wouldn't show up here with >0% odds whatever you think of the methodology for picking winners for each game - it proves it's possible to happen.by adamw - Hockey

Trotsky I'm not going to fight with you. I will say this is my ideal, and this is tooth-ache inducing. I recognize that for profitability you have to bend over for the iPacifier perma-children, and that there is no more margin for you to serve me my preference than for Amazon to hawk this over this. Chris '03 Iceberg Chris '03 And all on Friday, which seems less than ideal for attendance. Harvard ticket office sent out an email begging people to buy tickets for just ten bucks. The games at Appleton and Lynah East are on Friday. The other two games are the next day They were all listed as Friday (on chn at least) as of the other day. But glad to see they aren't all Friday. Trotsky Scersk '97I dearly miss collegehockeystats.net.F yes. Still the only site that did stats right. Explain "right" ... we have everything on our site that they had. And then some. Consider this user testing experience. Also - you guys are probably not the common user baseby adamw - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
adamw BearLoverSorry, yeah—the question I’m asking is how much higher our RPI would be if we changed an OT loss to a regulation win. I only mentioned Clarkson because the clear outcome of an effective hand pass challenge would have made this hypothetical a reality. 1.200 for straight win - 0.400 for the OT loss ... but then obviously divide by all the games played so far - and that a team's ownby adamw - Hockey

BearLover upprdeck coach said they reviewed for goalie interference not a hand pass. I dont think hockey looks at everything in a review like football does. Slow down this video to .25 speed and watch the tying Clarkson goal. Can someone explain how this isn’t a hand pass? The Clarkson player pushes the puck backwards to a teammate with his hand. Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
George64 Do any of these metrics factor in how a team is doing recently, versus how they played in November 2023? This lays out the history of changes over time Although I'm just now realizing that even though it specifically references the former "Last 16" (or Last 20) criterion - it doesn't say exactly when it was removed. Off the top of my head, I want to say around 2002 or 20by adamw - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
arugula Went to bed last night, all games were done, we were 14th. Wake up and we are 15th. Logical. if all games were truly done - this would not be the case. There was a game in Alaska that ended about 2 a.m. ET -- so, did you account for that?by adamw - Hockey

BearLover adamw BearLover adamw BearLover—Cornell has only 2 seniors, one of whom is the third string goalie. They do not have enough experience to compete for a national title this year. My best guess is the finish in the 20s in the Pairwise. I should probably just shut up - but I'm not good at that. I think Ben Syer and Topher are great guys. Neither will be the next coach. Casey Jones is one of my favorite people in hockey, and I think he's a great coach. However, he's only 4 years younger than Coach Schafer - and so it won't be him either.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
upprdeck well sometime in the next 2-10 yrs we will have to find out what a diff coach can.. I doubt he will be here when he is 70 so the window is probably even smaller. I'm going to go out on a really short limb and say that the odds of finding another coach that does as good a job, are about 5%.by adamw - Hockey
