Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Colgate vs. Cornell home-and-home 1/19-20 - 6 years ago
Cop at Lynah I believe a lot of the credit goes to Ben Syer. It's since his arrival that the recruiting has changed. Hopefully he sticks around awhile, but my gut says there is a head coaching opportunity coming his way in the near future.[/quoteby toddlose - Hockey
Re: Princeton @ Cornell 1/5/18 - 6 years ago
Jim Hyla Swampy Wow! Last weekend PU tied the #1 team in the country, not once but twice! What does a spanking like this a week later do for our RPI, pairwise, etc.? What does it do to SCSU's? I talked to what I assume was a PU parent about those games. He said SCSu was the best team they've seen. They were outplayed, especially in the OT of the first game. The OT shots were 14-0, SCSUby toddlose - Hockey

Trotsky toddlose Just bought tix for scsu at Princeton. First time in my life I think I'll be at baker rink rooting for them.Give us a scouting report. I am scared of that team. No promises. Depends on how much time I'm sitting at triumph brewery beforehand.by toddlose - Hockey

mountainred semsox CU77 This move makes no sense at all. Who is going to take Milliman's old job for one year? What recruit is going to come under these circumstances? Just start a search for a permanent head coach NOW!!! I find the move bizarre as well. Not to say it can't or won't end well, but imagine a scenario where Milliman doesn't have the interim tag eventually removed. Not a prettyby toddlose - Other Sports

Re: NCAA tourney - 7 years ago
We need to have someone set up a poll on this site asking who they want to win the tourney based on who's left. Be interesting to see if people prefer the hardware to be in or out of our conference.by toddlose - Hockey

Jim Hyla Jeff Hopkins '82 If you look at it, they kept 1-8, 2-7, 3-6 and 4-5 intact, They also kept 1-16, 2-15, 3-14, and 4-13 intact, as well as 8-9 and 7-10. All they did was swap us and Air Force to help attendance in Manchester. I'm surprised they didn't also swap Ohio State and Michigan Tech, but I suppose they wanted to throw a bone to Denver for being #1. I think they always giveby toddlose - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Union @ Lake Placid 03/17/17 - 7 years ago
RichH andyw2100 I would take beating Harvard tonight, for the ECAC Championship, over any NCAA tourney success, short of winning it all. This is Harvard! For the Championship! Just win! Yes, this. Flags fly forever. Let's force Lake Placid to add another row to our "jersey" banner. +1by toddlose - Hockey

BearLover Jeff Hopkins '82 Trotsky Down to 11 after tonight's games. Hrmpf. FWIW, I don't think it matters whether we're 9th or 11th, as long as NoDak stays in the 3-band with us. That means we can't go to Fargo, and have a much better chance of staying east. I'm more concerned with making the tournament. +1 my thoughts exactlyby toddlose - Hockey

Al DeFlorio mountainred Princeton 75 Cornell 60 on senior day. I thought the game tipped at 7, so I was settling down to the watch the second half and found out I missed the entire thing. Looks like the game was close for 30+ minutes.Cornell led by 10 at 23-13 Sounds like 2010 vs Kentucky.by toddlose - Other Sports

Trotsky toddloseAnd for the millenials out there, you wanna pack lynah every night? Designate it a safe space. Problem solved. For fuck's sake, I'm 2 generations distant from the Millennials and even I'm tired of that joke. Also, the crowd was excellent for Harvard and not bad at all for Dartmouth, and in fact the rush for the exits Saturday night was on the townie side. I'm a Grumpy Old Man wby toddlose - Hockey
Re: Sc Johnson $150 million gift - 7 years ago
marty Al DeFlorio Hooking In the seven years from 1967 to 1973 the C.U. men's hockey team went to six frozen fours. In the following 42 years Cornell went to two frozen fours. It is remarkable the fan base has survived as well as it has. So, I guess only teams that go to six frozen fours in seven years are able to retain their fan base. Can't be many good fan bases around if that's the case.by toddlose - Hockey

Ken711 Swampy CAS Sporting News has come out with their 2016 Ivy League football predictions. They predict Cornell to finish eighth in the Ancient Eight. And that's only because there are only eight teams! Someone has to be the new Columbia of Ivy League football. Unfortunately it's just not with football anymore.by toddlose - Other Sports

RatushnyFan NY Times article re Ithaca's heroin program 14 fatalities in 2014 in Tompkins County............three in a week and a half period.......these numbers are stunning. Completely agreed. That is stunning. However, In ocean county nj there were 112 (8 times that of Tompkins county) in 2013. Trotsky Another thing to consider. Some of the teams above us are taking big hits in graduation this year. Here are the graduating seniors with their rank in the top 25 of 2016 ECAC scoring: Qpc: St. Denis (4) Yal: Wilson (11) Hvd: Vesey (1), Criscuolo (7) SLU: Thompson (21), Ward (22) Clk: RPI: Drt: Barre (6), Patterson (20) Cor: Here are juniors in the top 25; no idea on theirby toddlose - Hockey

Re: Heroin use supervised by government, really?!? - 8 years ago
I'm neither endorsing nor condoning (I don't know enough to really have an educated stance). I'm just amazed that Ithaca is in the mix for the first site in the country. One would think other cities would be considering this instead of our "Podunk" upstate town. Ps-completed agreed Trotsky. That was not my intention.by toddlose - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Quinnipiac 5 Cornell 4, ot - 8 years ago
BearLover How exactly did this game signify Cornell "opening it up"? There was someone in the box basically the entire game--I think that accounts far more for the uptick in offense than any change in strategy. Q was stunningly undisciplined for a top team in the 1st period. Had they kept their heads in check, Cornell would not have even come close to winning this game. Some of theby toddlose - Hockey

Ken711 CAS Cornell losing 31-6 early 4th quarter. Headed to 15th loss in last 16 games. 1 winning season in last 16 years. Andy has named 4 head coaches during this period. We are the new "Columbia" of the Ivy League. That may be an insult to Columbia.by toddlose - Other Sports
