Re: Other Playoff Games - 3/17/06 - 18 years ago
8-1 Harvard. Man, Dartmouth blows tonight.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Why I will be (shudder) rooting for Sucks tomorrow - 18 years ago
KeithKfinchphilIt would also be better if Dartmouth lost to Harvard so it would knock Dartmouth out of the running for the NCAAs. Just about the only way they get in is to win the ECAC tournament. Harvard is likely in no matter what. Dartmouth could take away an at large bid from someone if they win the tourney, it is better for us to have them gone.Huh? So you'd rather see fewer ECAC teams iby finchphil - Hockey

Three IVY teams in the NCAAs would be kind of niceby finchphil - Hockey

Re: Schafer a candidate for Notre Dame vacancy? - 19 years ago
Well, Schafer isn't going to South Bend. But it's time for our AD to step up and get a deal done to keep Mike here for at least the next few years. Is anyone in Athletic Administration listening??? Get it done!by finchphil - Hockey
Ride Offered to Albany on Saturday ONLY - 19 years ago
Hi there I will be travelling from Ithaca to Albany on Saturday afternoon IF, and only if, Cornell beats UVM on Friday. I live in Boston, but happen to be in Ithaca for a few days. If Cornell is playing for the championship on Saturday, I'll plan to drive to Albany, leaving Ithaca around 12:00 - 1:00 or so. If Cornell loses to UVM, I'll be going to Boston on Sunday. Also, I will NOT be rby finchphil - Hockey

Re: RPI primer (brackets for dummies): Why #2/#3 Cornell may seed lower - 19 years ago
It depends. We want SLU and Brown to stay as TUCs because we are 4-0 against them and it helps our comparisions.... a lot. There are other teams on the bubble of being TUCs that, if they are TUCs, will help our opponents in the race for a #1 seed.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Polls 2/21 - 19 years ago
Interesting that the team with the most first place votes, Cornell (12), ends up third in the poll. Must be a lot of volatility at the top!by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Most annoying fan at lynah - 19 years ago
Sue Detzer told me last night that none of the people who are "trained" to wear the bear costume this year know how to skate. But apparently, they are getting some new bear costumes made for next year. My, this is interesting!by finchphil - Hockey

Oh boy, the NHL season may have been saved. And this changes my life how?by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Quest for #1 seed - 19 years ago
Yes SLU is borderline TUC, but they do have that critical Quality Win on the Road which will help some. I hope.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: PWR volatile, Cornell -> #8t - 19 years ago
It should still flip the comparison with UML to us. We are 2-0-0 over Brown, and they are 0-0-1 in the COP ranking. Given the other COPs in play for us and UML, the fact that they have now played Brown gives us 2 more wins in that ranking. It was my impression that the comparision would flip to us regardless of what the outcome of the Brown-UML game was....win, lose, or in this case, draw.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: PWR volatile, Cornell -> #8t - 19 years ago
Looks like Brown and UML tied 0-0 in OTby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Polls 12/13 - 19 years ago
Actually 4 ECAC teams (all IVY) were ranked in the top 15 a year ago for at least a week. November 24, 2003 Team (First Place) Record Pts Last Week 1 North Dakota (36) 9-2-0 595 1 2 Boston College (2) 7-2-3 543 2 3 Maine (2) 10-2-1 507 3 4 New Hampshire 8-2-1 499 4 5 Colorado Collegeby finchphil - Hockey
Re: [OT] What Is the Rarest Single-Game Feat in Sports? - 19 years ago
This might not be eligible since it is a team thing, but back in the mid 1990s I saw a game at Fenway between the Twins and the Red Sox. The Twins turned 2 triple plays in the same game. It hasn't been done before or since, so under the original specs of this posting, it might not be eligible, since it hasn't been repeated. Both were simple ground balls to the third baseman with runners at firby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Cornell 15th in PWR - 20 years ago
Seems pretty unlikley that we can move any higher. Since the ECAC Tournament winner will not be a top 14 team, that takes another slot away from at large possiblities, meaning that only the top 13 team in PWR will qualify. If UMass wins the HEA tournament today, they might take another slot away from at large qualifiers since that win might not push them into top 13. The teams on the bubblby finchphil - Hockey

Re: Pairwise Ranking - 20 years ago
It looks like Cornell and Colgate are actually tied for the 15th slot, meaning that there would not be an at large bid for either team, given the autobids for the non-major conferences. Cornell currently wins the comparison with Colgate so that's a little help. Harvard is now a TUC and Brown is out of the TUC range, so that helped Cornell rise, despite the loss last night. Of course, Cornell hby finchphil - Hockey

Re: Cornell 16th in PWR after Fri night - 20 years ago
Agreed. I can understand how a team that is like 16-15-1 and plays in a strong conference could make the argument that they are better than their record indicates. But the system is flawed if it allows a bad team (like this year's BU team) to continually lose to teams and be given credit for losses just because the teams they are losing to have good records. A combo of .500 RPI and .500 winninby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Cornell 16th in PWR after Fri night - 20 years ago
What happens if Harvard wins a couple of more games and gets their RPI over .500 (currently .493) and thus becomes a TUC. That has to help somehow, but I don't really understand all the details of this system. But in the end, one more loss will likely kill us. We pretty much have to win out.by finchphil - Hockey

Re: Cornell 16th in PWR after Fri night - 20 years ago
Interesting concept for Cornell to "host" a regional. Obiviously Lynah is too small for such an event, however USCHO notes that Rochester is hosting a regional in 2007 East Regional: Blue Cross Arena, Rochester, N.Y. (March 23-24, 2007) That would be a lot closer to Ithaca than Albany. Does anyone know who the host is for this regional?by finchphil - Hockey

Harvard Tix for Boston - 21 years ago
Am looking for tix (1-4 in total) for Cornell-Harvard game in Boston on 2/15. If you have any or know of any, please e-mail me at paf12@cornell.edu. The game, according to the Harvard ticket office, is sold out. Thanks.by finchphil - Hockey
