Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Play LeNeveu Saturday, Underhill Sunday?? - 22 years ago
I agree totally. The roatation worked well all season, why tamper with success. I realize Underhill is a senior and this is it for him and tradition dictates going with one goalie in the playoffs, but with UNH getting a bye, I'd be all for sharing the goal duties this weekend.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tix - 22 years ago
I just got back from the Centrum in Worcester (yes to avoid those "convenience fees". There are still a number of tix for Saturday, but not much for Sunday. I expect the best bet is to get what you can and then move around to be near your friends. With 2 games going on each day, there will likey be some empty seats from time to time in various places when a fans "team" is nby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Score vs. Hahvahd - 22 years ago
Are you watching NESN, Thom? I don't think they are so bad for Harvard. They have to make a story out of something, and they aren't nearly as bad as the Globe will cover it tomorrow. Win or lose, the headline will be what Harvard does.....by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Score vs. Hahvahd - 22 years ago
oops, make that Cornell 1 Harvard 1 its all tiedby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Chances of bye if we beat Hahvahd - 22 years ago
I agree, it's hard to imagine there will not be an at large bid even with a loss tonight, but let's make it a moot point. Just win, baby!by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Lynah East vs. Lynah West - March 16, 2002 - 22 years ago
I agree! No fish tonight! That's a tradition for Lynah only. Let's not get some stupid penatly tonight....by finchphil - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tix - 22 years ago
The CU box office will likely get some tix. If the game is in Worcester, MA(likely.....IF we make it) you can also order tix on web by going to their site at and following the links to purchase tix.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Bring on RPI - 22 years ago
Yeah, I agree it is only one game. What concerns me most is that RPI will be looking for revenge after feeling they got ripped off in the last game at Troy. But they will be tired and Cornell is hungry too. Should be a great game! Will be watching on NESN and hoping for an NCAA bid as the game will likely be in my backyard!by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Bring on RPI - 22 years ago
I'd much rather be playing Dartmouth. It is VERY hard to beat a team three times in one year. Hopefully RPI will be emotionally drained after this game. Cornell has got to come out strong in the beginning....by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
Yeah, you know IHS goes by the moniker Little Red and they do have a very good hockey team there, a few NYS Championships in the past decade or so.....just assumed that was the case.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
Opps! Ewe are write. How could eye bee sew stoopid? Nothing like a little fare play every now and then..... What makes you a littlered fan? I am also an alum of IHS, Class of 1981.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
Well done. You write like an Ivy League grad. Not with the grammatical errors of those still in training!by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Poll on Arthur - 22 years ago
What ever happened to Barlow Ware? He was a legend long before the nasaly Arturo took over. And then there was Bob Julian who subbed for Barlow.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: "Storied" coaches - 22 years ago
And Bob Blackman was a storied football coach at Dartmouth (the last Ivy League team to be nationally ranked in DIV 1) but came here and did diddly.by finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
I agree with Neil. The Ivies are very committed to college athletics. Some "big time" schools only field a few varsity teams, in particular, those they can make money from. On the term of instutional support, this also comes from ivyleaguesports.com: Ivy athletic programs receive multi-million-dollar institutional support as part of each institution’s overall academic programs, indeby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
I am not sure of where the money comes from for athletics at Cornell, but to quote the Ivy League web site.... Sponsoring conference championships in 33 men's and women's sports, and averaging more than 35 varsity teams at each school, the Ivy League provides intercollegiate athletic opportunities for more men and women than any other conference in the country. All eight Ivy schools are among thby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
Yeah, let's worry about our ECAC title first. We have had the benefits of playing in a weak ECAC, but other than beating BU once, haven't faired that well against ranked teams outside of the ECAC. We aren't even ranked in the top 4 in the country and for good reason, we haven't proven we can consistently beat good teams. Good goal tending and a strong defense are usually the keys to a contendeby finchphil - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
A national championship would be wonderful, but let's not lose site of things here....let's worry about the ECAC tournament first. Either Dartmouth or RPI will be a tough game. Remember we haven't beaten Dartmouth this year and barely beat RPI twice. If we can't be prepared for and win that game, the NCAA tournament might be a moot point. The team has played well all year and has upheld the hby finchphil - Hockey
