Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
Neil, you listed the same four preferred groups that frosted my behind when my dear son was making applications last year. Since he refused to lie himself into group number four he was at a disadvantage. I thank god that the admissions people saw him for what he was and accepted him.....but how about those that get screwed by telling the truth and admitting that they aren't sure where they wantby marty - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
But there are also a group, though I hope a small group, who will apply to an Ivy (meaning any Ivy) as an early decision candidate hoping to get into one Ivy or another at any cost. Big time facetimers! Eh?by marty - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
What burned me was that because my cousin is registrar at a selective school we realized that my son was not: 1. An early decision candidate, 2. A recruited athlete, 3. Member of a minority group, 4. Legacy except at CU which he felt was too big for him, and I think one more category that thankfully I have forgotten. I am hoping to forget the whole damn process, but I doubt I'll live longby marty - Hockey

Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
Yale is ending binding early decision with the class of '08. I wish they would just ditch the whole early decision BS. Early decision sometimes puts undue pressure on those who are honest about not being sure where they want to go to school.by marty - Hockey

Re: LeNeveu and World Juniors - 21 years ago
Well in that case I would like to re-live game three. Very much off topic but... I was at a dinner meeting of professionals, which we have about once a month. The speaker was listed as a woman but when she arrived she was accompanied by a man who had spoken to us the previous March. He was there to promote himself rather than impart continuing education. After the meal I walked out of the meby marty - Hockey
Re: NCAA Playoff Tickets.... - 21 years ago
Though anyone with a real distaste for Pepsi can go to the other Knickerbocker Arena in nearby Troy to watch Pee Wee hockey.by marty - Hockey
Re: NCAA Playoff Tickets.... - 21 years ago
Are you referring to the use of the word Pepsi? There is no Pepsi ECAC tourney. I mistyped. The ECAC tourney is at the Pepsi (nee Knickerbocker) Arena. I didn't name it and I don't drink the stuff.by marty - Hockey
Re: NCAA Playoff Tickets.... - 21 years ago
I agree. I have advance ticket orders pending for the Pepsi ECAC tourney. As of now they are not opening up the upper deck for the ECACs. This sucks to say the least as my favorite seats are up there. If the tourney does draw well they may be forced to open them up and then we will have many many seats to choose from.by marty - Hockey

Clarkson vs. Colgate 2:00 ET Corel Centre (Ottawa, Ont.) So is this a game with a tradition? I missed this one last year if so.by marty - Hockey

Re: Dec 9 Polls - 21 years ago
Polls or no polls the last time the team was rated this high must have been the 72-73 season. (Pre-season assessment aside.) Correct?by marty - Hockey
Re: 1972-73 - 21 years ago
Sieve I believe was alive and well when I entered Lynah for the first time in the fall of 1970, although I can't remember for certain. There is I think a written memory of the sieve cheer driving BU to distraction during the 71-72 season when they visited Lynah. The poster was a former BU student who I think visited the old message board in the last year or so. His story concerning Lynah was eby marty - Hockey
Bertagna On the Hotseat!!! - 21 years ago
In a letter to the editor of the Potsdam-Massena Daily Courier-Observer on Dec. 3, 2002, American Hockey Coaches Association Executive Director and Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna stated his displeasure at the termination of Morris. "It is clear that forces at work on the Clarkson campus wanted hockey coach Mark Morris removed all along and the incident that took place at Cheel Arenby marty - Hockey
Hey Bobby? - 21 years ago
from the USCHO recap: "Bobby broke the puck out," said Vesce, "and I was yelling at Moulson to drive wide. He drove the net, sent it across, and I was lucky to get a stick on it."by marty - Hockey

Wallpaper Nirvana - 21 years ago
I have downloaded many of Age's fine pics of this season's games. I have installed Winwall (freeware) to allow the use of the pictures as rotating wallpaper: I am a very happy fan. There is a very minor bug that may or may not occur when you use Winwall. The first time you specify the directory with the wallpaper pictures you should exit Winwall and choose to save your choice of direcby marty - Hockey

Greg, If you or one of your friends has a credit card statement from Maryland Bank in your posession, you can find a wonderful dispute form on the back of the statement. If you fill it out completely and send it to the credit card company with which there is a disputed charge, you will get a reasonable response. I used that form last year with Capital One Bank and they took the charge off my cby marty - Hockey
Re: As if we didn't already hate CornellPass - 21 years ago
I agree with Jim and Al. Don't pay the charge. Your bank will stand behind you and if they don't get another card from another bank. You get six offers in the mail every day like most of us, eh?by marty - Hockey

Hey more power to you. I will be first in line for the CD. My son joined the Yale pep band for a fun activity and hasn't regretted a moment. Keep smiling and keep having fun fun fun fun fun!!by marty - Hockey

Bâby: What's going on Scott (Hansen)? You're calling the game with your eyes closed. Hansen: I'm PO'd. I told the members of my fan club I was going to be on Hockeycam only to find out Andy pulled the plug. Feola: Could we call a bench minor on the AD for unsportsmanlike conduct?by marty - Hockey
Re: Why I said "No" to the Cornell Fund - 21 years ago
Hey TBone, How is the pep band normally funded? I am sad to hear that you don't have any money. Does that mean the band will travel less this season? A fan who anxiously awaits the new CD!by marty - Hockey
Re: Why I said "No" to the Cornell Fund - 21 years ago
I am not willing to pay $7 for radio feed, but I would for full audio/video. Cornell PROMISED an improved service. I and many others no doubt have thought about this. If the school offered the video there would be reason to pay the $7. One thing I noticed at the place where the Tigers hang out is that they had video for football this season and last. So there is hope that we will see the Biby marty - Hockey
Re: Harvard pics are up - 21 years ago
There is something about Doug Murray that makes me smile. I can't verbalize it completely, but after meeting him at one of the post game pizza parties a couple of years ago I came away with the impression that he was something special. My instincts were right that night and I wish he could send a few cousins over to fill his skates when he departs.by marty - Hockey

Re: Dartmouth beats BC - 21 years ago
Were you there Ben? And I don't know if I agree. One sleeping moment does not determine the outcome as was seen in this game. Since I wasn't there I am of course clueless as to whether he deserves star billing.by marty - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth beats BC - 21 years ago
Boucher seems to play up to the competition - and sometimes gets no respect. First Star: Mike Ouellette (Dartmouth) Second Star: Max Guimond (Dartmouth) Third Star: Ryan Shannon (Boston College) stars as listed on : And these stars may be from one of the radio broadcasts as there are no stars listed for the Cornell games of the past weekend.by marty - Hockey
