Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Pre-Harvard Info - 14 years ago
Josh '99 amerks127 Jim Hyla From Dan Sweeney's blog At the very least, Cornell goalie Ben Scrivens will be going to the Final Four. The Big Red senior has been selected to participate in the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge on April 9 at Ford Field. To the surprise of no one, Scrivens is a finalist for the Dryden award. It would be an absolute joke if he didn't win. Last one...Scrivensby amerks127 - Hockey
Re: Other Scores, Sunday March 14 - 14 years ago
Ronald '09 amerks127 Jim Hyla Using USCHO Pairwise Predictor I can get us to 7, but no higher. Strictly out of curiosity, what's the lowest Cornell could go? I got us down I think to 17th, but I didn't get us worse than a tie for 11th (with Yale) if we beat Brown. That would be 5 lowly ranked conference winners, making us the last at large bid. So, unless I missed a scenario, it's beat Browby amerks127 - Hockey

Re: Harvard 0 at Cornell 3 Game 2 Postgame - 14 years ago
CUontheslopes Ronald '09 CUontheslopes - Has anyone noted that Greening has ZERO penalty minutes to date? That's an incredible stat and shows you just how dominant he is. He skates so hard and moves his feet so well that he's always in position. He played a GREAT game last night. Greening has 29 PIM this year ( ). Do you not remember his 5 minute major and game misconduct against Q earliby amerks127 - Hockey

Re: Other Scores, Friday March 12 - 14 years ago
In case anyone missed this new definition of sieve: ECAC RecapBrown wasted little time in grabbing a lead, as Buvinow scored just seven seconds after the second period’s opening faceoff. Sophomore Jack Maclellan (Calgary, ALB) won the faceoff back to Buvinow on his right and the defenseman skated backwards with the puck and then up to the red line, firing a wrist shot through traffic from Browby amerks127 - Hockey

Re: PWR Pedagogery - 14 years ago
Nathan Chicowdy 92 Can someone please, please provide an updated PWR assessment for the coming weekend? Can BU face UnivNoHardware in the HE tourney and flip the CoP for us? Would CoP even matter for that comparison if we advance to Albany? Is NoHardware the only comparison that is up for grabs and is not 100% RPI-dependent? I need my PWR fix here, people. I'm not a PWR expert, but here's thby amerks127 - Hockey

ugarte Josh '99 ugarte Kyle Rose ebilmesIt goes without saying, but much credit should be given to Schafer for his success over the last 14 years and his ability to keep the team towards the top of the ECAC and on the national radar. Saying that this season isn't as great as 2003's is a fact, and not some dig at the coach. Nor does making that comparison reveal some appalling lack of appreciationby amerks127 - Hockey

Jim Hyla Jeff Hopkins '82 Jim Hyla For hockey info prior to Harvard. I'll start. Scali is a finalist for Best Defensive Forward in ECAC. And Krueger for best defensive defensemanWhere did you see that? Here: My money is on Schreiber, who was ECAC first-team along with Nash this season. Interesting that Krueger got the nod for this award as he didn't make any All-ECAC/Ivy teams.by amerks127 - Hockey

Re: Opinion Piece: A Little Perspective - 14 years ago
CUontheslopes Very well said. I can't stand to read the hockey pieces in the Cornell Sun. No disrespect to the two kids who write it, but honestly, it comes across as a weekly whine about how Cornell has failed each week. I choose not to read it and I know a lot of other hockey fans who don't either because they can't stand the Chicken Little "the sky is falling" weekly rant. Let's cheeby amerks127 - Hockey

jtwcornell91 scoop85 mnagowski Trotsky Backman hurt. According to USCHO Cafe done for the year. Damn. (You can read into that as you see fit.) Agreed. While the natural initial reaction might be "great -- it opens things up for us," I'd like to see Yale at full strength; not only would I hope to have a chance to beat them with all their horses, but they certainly will be hamperedby amerks127 - Hockey

Trotsky Dartmouth 1 Quinnipiac 1, end 2. The band has a contingent at the Lynah women's game. Place is still empty, though. It wasn't that empty. A thru D had quite a number of fans, and probably the most that've ever watched a women's game at Lynah.by amerks127 - Hockey

I'm posting here in anticipation of Riley Nash one day playing hockey for a professional team... The Oilers will end their association with the Springfield, and move their farm system to Oklahoma City. Cornell alum Rick Olczyk (JD '96), current Oilers Assistant GM, is quoted in the article as well.by amerks127 - Hockey
Re: Princeton Post-game - 14 years ago
sah67 HeafDog A-ronI'll let you guys discuss the play but here's my opinion of the fans at Princeton: bad. Not to mention downright assholish. Some guy all of a sudden, from out of nowhere, started shit with me with a few minutes to go. Thanks to Mitch and Novikoff, et al., for having my back and shouting the guy down. I was standing next to Mitch but couldn't quite tell what was happening duby amerks127 - Hockey
ECAC Players of the Week - 14 years ago
Just an interesting note... Cornell is the only team left in the ECACHL without a single player named as player, rookie or goaltender of the week. Despite being in first place, having statistically the best goaltender and the second highest scorer in points and goals in league games (Gallagher). By comparison Scrivens won the award four times up to this point in the season last year, whileby amerks127 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 1, SLU 1 (Final) - 14 years ago
Jim HylaConsidering all, refs and illness, I'm very happy with 1 point and a 3 point weekend. You can't overlook the great defense Cornell played at critical moments this weekend. Yes, there were some ugly giveaways, but the team only allowed two third-period shots to Clarkson in a tight game while they blocked countless shots all night against SLU(t) especially on the penalty kill. Re: Poll: What is the most useless stat in hockey? - 14 years ago
dbilmes Plus-minus is a useless stat because a player on a checking line may be an excellent defensive forward, but have a terrible plus-minus number because he's usually matched against the opposition's No. 1 line. I used to cover the Hartford Whalers (remember them?) for a local paper and never put much stock in that statistic.
