sah67 Not technically "alumn" news, but alumn-related: Ralph Krueger, father of Justin Krueger '07, was named an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers last week. I swear Justin played through at least the 2008 season.by amerks127 - Hockey
Re: Riley Nash (CAR) - 13 years ago
pfibiger cbuckser As we anticipated, Riley signed an entry-level deal with the Hurricanes today. 3 years out of a first round draft pick. That's pretty unusual for a college hockey team these days. I highly doubt Louis Leblanc stays through his junior year at Harvard. I'm very pleased with what Riley brought to Cornell hockey and wish him luck in his future as a professional hockey player. Josh '99 amerks127 Ronald '09 Moulson avoids arbitration: 1 year, $2.45 million. I think that's huge a steal for the Islanders if Moulson puts up similar numbers to last year. Probably the smartest move Garth Snow has made as GM.That's not all that high a standard of comparison. How high is 15yr/$67.5m?by amerks127 - Hockey

Re: harvard imposes recruiting limits for 2010-2011 basketball for cheating back in 2007 - 13 years ago
An article on ESPN today about issues in NCAA basketball had this to say about the cleanest/dirtiest leagues (in terms of committing major violations). Of the 20 coaches surveyed, 11 said the Big Ten was the cleanest in the country. Three others cited the land where time stood still, also known as the scholarship-less Ivy League. Jim Hyla Scersk '97 Kyle RoseNow, how about that rebuilding year ahead? In all seriousness, I still expect us to be solid contenders to finish first in the regular season this next year. While it will certainly be a rebuilding year for the offense, we return eight regular skaters (Devin, Kennedy, Jillson, Roeszler, Collins, Esposito, Miller, Nicholls) and have added some bruisers (DeSwardt =by amerks127 - Hockey
Re: Riley Nash (CAR) - 13 years ago
More pressure to leave: Hurricanes General Manager Jim Rutherford has said all along that he’ll give his young forwards every opportunity to make the team. That appears to be especially true with two of his most recent acquisitions: Jeff Skinner and Riley Nash. Following the team’s recent conditioning camp, which served to pleasantly confirm previously-held beliefs about the group as a whoby amerks127 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 RatushnyFan Wish I could have gone, I'm vacationing at a home on Cayuga but didn't arrive until last Saturday. Joe is still hanging out, he signed my son's jersey at the Cornell hockey camp today. My son's resident advisor (he's in the overnight camp) is Espo - very cool! Lucky kid...... Phil or Tony? Re: Bill Gates Hall > goodbye Hoy Field? - 13 years ago
From the few baseball games I saw, it seemed foul balls frequently landed in that parking lot. Any word on whether Gates has offered to fund a baseball-repellent forcefield around the building as well? As the Cornell Master Plan indicated, moving Hoy Field is a matter of when, not if.by amerks127 - Other Sports
Re: Riley May Be Traded - 13 years ago
Karmanos estimates that a handful of this year’s camp participants will be back at the team’s full training camp in the fall, with the exception of Kivisto and the college-committed players in Biega, Nash (unless he chooses to sign with the Canes and forego his senior season at Cornell) and Justin Faulk. Some, including Skinner, will also represent the Hurricanes at the Traverse City prospects tby amerks127 - Hockey

redice cbuckser Good news. David LeNeveu is back on our side of the pond. He signed a 1-year, 2-way deal with the Blue Jackets. Great news..If he doesn't make the NHL, we'll be able to go to Syracuse to watch him play. YAY!!! Unfortunately, when Edmonton moved its affiliate Oklahoma, Columbus moved its prospects to Springfield and Syracuse is now affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks. So hereby amerks127 - Hockey

Re: Riley May Be Traded - 13 years ago
Ronald '09 ebilmes This seems to hint that Riley wasn't crazy about playing in Oklahoma City, but maybe Albany would be a more attractive AHL team for him. Of course, he has no shot at playing for the Albany Devils next season unless he gets traded again. It's only 750 miles from Albany to Charlotte, NC.by amerks127 - Hockey

Robb jtwcornell91 Robb Things I do NOT love about Switzerland: Massagno is 135 mi away, but getting there involves driving 235 miles - through 2 foreign countries. I think I will not be catching any games. What's the train connection like? 6 hours and 2 changes. I'm starting to think Geneva is not really part of Switzerland... It's hard to get a train through Zermatt. Travel time by carby amerks127 - Other Sports

Elie and I interviewed both Larry Quant, Associate Director of Athletics for Financial Operations and Anita Brenner, Associate Athletic Director during our junior and senior years for various reasons. They told us (on the record) that Athletics runs over $1 million operating budgets each year. Even if lacrosse turns a small profit, it gets lost in the larger Athletics budget. Re: Riley May Be Traded - 13 years ago
RatushnyFan Isn't he more likely to get playing time on the Oilers? I'd go where I had a better shot of sticking with the NHL club versus spending time in the AHL. Or is everyone assuming that he starts at the AHL? Playing with your brother is really nice, but not always practical at the NHL level until you've both accomplished a lot and have achieved free agency status............e.g. the Nby amerks127 - Hockey

Re: Graduation Day Reflections Part 2 - 13 years ago
Each semester I spent here, Cornell hockey always came first. Whether it was traveling to road games with Elie or skyping my parents at 4am in Geneva, Switzerland to watch games on TV, I prioritized hockey above the rest. I’ve written on this theme many times before, but it bears repeating one final time. Cornell hockey connects students to generations of fans and teams of years past. To allby amerks127 - Hockey

Trotsky David HardingHow does that differ from the current rule? NCAA Rules 2008-20104-2-d. If the referee signals an additional minor penalty(s) against a team that already is short-handed because of one or more minor or bench minor penalties, and a goal is scored by the non-offending team before the whistle is blown, the goal shall be allowed, the delayed penalty(s) shall be assessed, and theby amerks127 - Hockey

Rita Lots of ink for Ryan O'Byrne, but no ice in game 7. I missed the start of the game so didn't hear why he isn't in the line-up. Healthy scratch? Or the ambiguous "upper/lower" body injury? Healthy scratch I think. Most of Montreal's injured defensemen are playing tonight...namely Jaroslav Spacek and Hal Gill, while PK Subban is playing in the NHL after playing the regular seasonby amerks127 - Hockey
