Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell 2, CC 0 (game 1 Friday) - 11 years ago
Cop at Lynah A direct comment from CC staff..."This is the worst officating I have ever seen....there is so much whacking and hacking it's unbelievable". My response ws "welcome to ECAC hockey" Staff? I heard a CC parent tells his cohorts that, "Mike Schafer is just an a$$hole"!! He also suggested that our team was so big that nobody else in the ECAC would have aby Johnny 5 - Hockey
Re: Red Cast Really Sucks (now in HD) - 11 years ago
Chris '03 "RedCast has added multi-bitrate streams that work similar to ESPN3 broadcasts" Now in HD and on mobile devices. Let's see how quickly it fails! Wait!! I love the Skype quality video!! Especially on a Retina display iPad!!!!by Johnny 5 - Hockey

Re: Pannell eligibility approved - 11 years ago
billhoward Thank you, Al, for a subject line that provides all the info we needed. Everytime there was a burst of traffic on Rob Pannell Status I held my breath thinking it would be that he's transferring or the appeal was shot down. Now, please, let's take care of the unfinished business of the past half decade. It's small comfort to know that Maryland has had a dryer spell than Cornell. Yes,by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 11 years ago
Chris '03 Not too earth shattering but Rob is apparently "confident" the league will approve his fifth year. If the league forces him to enroll at Virginia I will start cheering for Syracuse. Then Hell will freeze over.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 11 years ago
RichH Swampy phillysportsfan So will the league give him another year? By withdrawing does he just forfeit all the credits from this semester? Certainly good news for Big Red fans. I'm sure he, his family, his coaches, the administration, his professors, etc. all worked together to figure out the best way to do this. Let's just hope the NCAA & Ivy League do the right thing. He's willingby Johnny 5 - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse-Rob Pannell Status - 11 years ago
Weder Robb billhoward jtn27 It's probably too late for him to take an incomplete. Finals are over. If he hadn't already made the decision not to graduate before finals, I think he has to graduate. Don't pay the library fines. That's a worse offense than plagiarism.Or get a parking ticket - easier than having to actually trek to the library. Maybe he hasn't taken his swim test? Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - 11 years ago
Redscore I needed to be sedated after I saw that picture. Fool that I am, I threw a $100 pair of aviator Ray-Bans against a tree after that game. My wife says it's just that I'm irrational in my distaste for Syracuse sports; especially lacrosse. Guilty as charged.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Shot clock for college lacrosse - 11 years ago
Curious. That definitely would speed things up. But, the kids would get at lot less time to breathe. Would it work at the high school level where a team doesn't have an unlimited number of subs available??by Johnny 5 - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - NCAA 1st round - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio billhoward First round, Saturday 5/12 Colgate 13, UMass (Colgate outscores UMass 4-1 4th Q) Duke 12, Syracuse 9 Loyola 7, Canisus 3 (after 3) Denver, UNC night game What a stage for UMass: Unbeaten going into the playoffs, Final Four in Gilette Stadium. And then this. God help us Cornell fans in Colgate makes it Foxboro. They'll have to fence off the gorge.Dunno. I'm sure rby Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - 12 years ago
But, the bigger question...the 500 pound gorilla...is, what happened to us? This year's Cornell team was expected to (maybe) take it all. Was it just the loss of RP? Donovan going down versus Yale? Maybe the growing parity in D-I lax? WTF happened?? Why did the wheels come off the bus??by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - 12 years ago
billhoward TimV Jim Hyla I'm rooting for them, and UMass. Who else? Wait- we root for ECAC teams in the NCAA hockey tournament, why not Yale in lacrosse? It'd be a nice underdog story. And my younger son played lacrosse at Yale. All good reasons to root for Yale plus: Root for the team that hasn't been to the top lately (ever?). Just keep them away from drained pools. Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - 12 years ago
jtn27 billhoward I assume we won't use Saturday for a makeup game at Hobart. Making up the Hobart game to end the season might be the only way to make the end of the season even more depressing than it is now. Actually the best way to totally ruin this season would be for Syracuse to win the title. Talk about a Mayan apocalypse.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse May 2012 - 12 years ago
Roy 82 TimV At first, I cursed these scores, because now I think SU wins the Big East easily and therefore makes the Dance. But maybe it would help us in the bubble comparisons if Princeton spanks us again. ....should we be fortunate enough to win the first round and face Princeton. Guess not. May be the worst collapse in Cornell lax history. Ugly third period.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse vs Yale - 12 years ago
Redscore 4-12 This team had so much heart through most of the season. I really think they expected RP back and when he couldn't, it sort of all fell apart. Losing Donovan after 1 didn't help; either.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Re: Lax: Cornell at Princeton, Saturday Night - 12 years ago
jtn27 TimV Anybody aware of an establishment in Providence RI that has ESPNU? ESPNU is often (but not always) simulcast on ESPN3.com. Also, don't forget the ESPN viewer app for your iPod or iPad.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports
Lax: Cornell at Princeton, Saturday Night - 12 years ago
From humb le in Laxpower: Ivy – Princeton (#14 RPI, #29 SOS, QWs – Villanova(12)) – The Ivies are looking more and more like a one-bid league. The winner of Princeton-Cornell earns the right to host the Ivy tournament. The loser is going to face an uphill climb to make it in as an at-large team. The pressure is on.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse April 2012 - 12 years ago
Redscore I'm no expert but I would guess so. Another bad outcome for us today when Georgetown beat Syracuse. UVA losing yesterday also sucked for us. If I was the committee, I couldn't point to a single impressive win on Cornell's resume and I could make the case that we lost to the only decent team we played, and that team is no longer the world beater they looked like a couple of weeks ago.by Johnny 5 - Other Sports

Josh '99 TimV Best all-around game since last year's rout of Brown. Great fun to read the Post-Standard article. Even more fun to read the teeth/gnashing comments after the article. Syracuse Post StandardAny day I can hear Syracuse fans complaining about their lacrosse team is a good day in my book. Re: Lax 12 vs. Syracuse 6 final - 12 years ago
billhoward Any victory over Syracuse is a good one. Great game in goal by Andrew West. Is the guy on crutches on the sideline Rob Pannell and if so is that an improvement over being on a scooter? Let's hope. I originally thought so, too. (As did Dan Freshman in his article for Inside Lacrosse.) But, unless I'm going blind (maybe?) Pannell was in a modified boot walking the sidelines.
