Re: Terrible Red Towels - 19 years ago
Somebody brought the towel idea up for the Frozen Four two years ago, but I don't think anything really came of it. I'm not wild about it (how many home playoff games have the Steelers lost over the last ten years again?), but I do wish more people would wear red and/or white at Lynah. As far as getting the university behind any marketing, they've twice promoted the Scholkopf Sell-out (unsuccby gtsully - Hockey
Re: ECAC Finals: game times - 19 years ago
Yeah, but they'd probably be busy showing spelling bees or dog shows or reality shows or over-publicized poker shows on the ESPN and the deuce. I can't imagine how they'd make time for actual sports. Maybe the NIT even gets bumped to ESPNU to get the network some early exposure.by gtsully - Hockey
Hockey at Fenway? - 19 years ago
Being a Red Sox fan who loves college hockey, I'm practically drooling at this idea. As long as they don't do it on the same night as the Cornell-Harvard game...by gtsully - Hockey
Re: CU at Lynah East?? - 19 years ago
I can't make it to Providence, but I'll be at Bright both nights for Colgate and then Cornell. Despite my disdain for John Harvard's, I'll be there before and after the CU game with five others, just for the company of you fine people, and to see the mortified look on the locals' faces once the "Har-vard... SUCKS!" chants start. Good times... I can't wait.by gtsully - Hockey
Re: Yanks acquire Big Unit; sucks to be a Sox fan right now - 19 years ago
Let me tell you first hand... it absolutely does NOT suck to be a Red Sox fan right now. I've been doing this for 27 years, I'm in Boston right now... it's never been better. Take your $16 million, 41-year-old, best left-handed pitcher ever... we don't care. We're still celebrating the championship that your team choked away... we don't have time to worry about the Yankees.by gtsully - Hockey

I guess for hockey it depends if you're aiming it towards students/fans or players. I doubt the players much wanted to play for ND, but the fans probably wanted to get in there. Hmm... Re: BC at Harvard (Sucks) - Tuesday, 11/16 - 19 years ago
I sat behind Killer (and little killer) at the game last night, and I pretty much agree with everything he and A-19 said. I was in the will call line and missed the first few minutes of the game (and the BC goal), so the whole time I was there, BC looked pretty sloppy except for two stretches in the 3rd period. They came out skating hard and threw a few hits in the first minute of the period, bby gtsully - Hockey
Re: Quiet crowd - 19 years ago
I had standing room tickets for both games, and ended up standing behind section F all night Friday and for the first period Saturday (we were able to score empty seats in section C for the second and third periods). I'm generally the type to gripe about how much better it was back in the "old days" (meaning '98-'00, when I had season tickets), but I thought the crowd was pretty good tby gtsully - Hockey

It's over. The Red Sox actually did it. I don't know what to say, except... Let's Go Red!!!by gtsully - Hockey

Jerseygirl Wrote: Fourth, speaking of the "Year 2000" chant, I really don't think it will have the desired effect. After all, the Yanks are really only a little off their pace of 1 championship every 4 years. That has nothing to do with it. The driving force behind that chant would be "Yankee fans have been annoying as hell with that 1918 chant for the last ten years or so,by gtsully - Hockey

Jerseygirl Wrote: The reason the non a-hole Yankees fans find the victory so hard to take is not only because its spoils are being enjoyed by our version of the Harvard hockey team, but also because Sox fans apparently don't seem to see anything annoying or obnoxious about their behavior. You've got us on the whining, but I've got to take you to task on the annoying behavior after the win.by gtsully - Hockey

The new site looks great Age - well done. But the backround color looks surpisingly... Crimson. Any way to brighten it up a little, or is it darker to purposely differentiate it from the forum?by gtsully - Hockey

Al DeFlorio Wrote: It's like saying if Palahicky's goal had been allowed in Buffalo the game would have gone into overtime at 3-3. Well, who knows how the rest of the game would have played out had the goal been allowed and the game continued without the lengthy delay and a 1-0 Cornell lead? Well, the way they were rolling at the time, they probably would have blown UHN out of the building tby gtsully - Hockey
Re: (OT) Pat Tillman - 20 years ago
I just thought that the juxtoposition of the stories about Tillman and all of the Eli Mannings out there (read that as you will - greedy athletes, politicians, whatever) should serve as a wake up call to all of us - nothing more than that. It makes me sick everytime a soldier dies, but this really hammers it home.by gtsully - Hockey
(OT) Pat Tillman - 20 years ago
Former Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan after foregoing millions in an NFL contract and enlisting with the Army Rangers two years ago. This is about the saddest thing I can think of in recent memory, especially when you look at the next headline down and see that Eli Manning would rather hold out than play in San Diego or that NHL players would strike rather than maby gtsully - Hockey

Re: Smoore - 20 years ago
I think you're talking about Marty McSorely, who didn't really hook and drag the guy, but he did hit Donald Brashear (then with the Canucks, ironically) on the cheek/neck with the blade of his stick, knocking him to the ice while trying to goad him into a fight with about 5 seconds left in the game. On his way down, Brashear's helmet fell off, and his head hit the ice pretty hard. Somewhere inby gtsully - Hockey

That's a few words?!?!? By the way, that's pretty gutsy the way you posted this anonymously so as not to have to answer to the hundred or so dissenting arguments you're likely to hear. Personally, I thought some of Facetimer's posts were kinda funny, when taken with an appropriately large grain of salt. Re: Robert Morris Joins CHA - 20 years ago
Just for the sake of travel partners, Holy Cross would be preferable. If it's Quinnipiac, you'd almost have to pair them with Yale, but then who do you pair Princeton with? HC or Harvard could easily be paired with Dartmouth and the other with Brown to keep it simple. Quinnipiac would be messy.by gtsully - Hockey
Re: [OT] Cornell football on WEEI - 20 years ago
They always poke fun at Nelson, but they were basically saying "The Cornell Daily Sun..." in sarcastic reverence, as if a small college paper wasn't a reliable source in such a large media market. They didn't say anything bad about the article or the paper, per se, but kinda looked down on it, not really beleiving that the Sun could break a story that they hadn't heard anything about yby gtsully - Hockey
[OT] Cornell football on WEEI - 20 years ago
The sports radio station in Boston is talking about the Cornell football head coach search. The final three candidates are Trestman, Kevin Gilbride, and Curry College head coach Steve Nelson (a part-time co-host on the drive-time show on WEEI). They quoted (and mocked) the Cornell Daily Sun during the report. Good times...by gtsully - Hockey
