Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
Well, I'm a townie with two kids (8 and 5). Around my kids I never curse (they think that "shoot" is the worst curse word I know...and I've got a mouth that would make a sailor blush). I don't much care if the students curse or not when my kids are there. It's my job to teach my kids about appropriate use of language. It's not like a hockey game is the only place they are going to heby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Cornell moves to #1 in KRACH and Pairwise - 15 years ago
I had a typeII...couldn't lift my arm for weeks (and the most amazing bruise that spread down my torso). Years later, I cringe when I think of it. When I watch football and they say some guy dislocated his shoulder 2 weeks ago and he's out there now...I wonder what the hell kind of drugs they're dispensing. I wouldn't want to play hockey 1 week after any shoulder separation...type I or wby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 RPI 0 Postgame - 15 years ago
ebilmesCornell will lose another game, probably soon. If we're only going to lose one more game, I'd rather lose it soon and win all the later ones (ha!). Nothing like a loss to get a team focused and intent. Long winning streaks can lead to cockiness and laziness. Luckily, we aren't winning by big margins, so there isn't that sense that we're crushing teams with ease. But, still, a losby CKinsland - Hockey

CowbellGuyThe photos don't do it justice. It's really searing and not anything I would consider Cornell red. It's almost magenta. Or at least far closer to magenta than I'd like. But holy hell, it's bright. I've got to agree...my thought was "That's going to hurt to look at in bright sunlight" (it was a dim day when I was there). The person I was with and I were speculating that theby CKinsland - Other Sports

Re: Cornell Harvard (Semifinal) - 16 years ago
Harvard sucks and all, but these announcers aren't awful. They noted that Biega's penalty was just stupid ("It isn't often you see him take such a useless penalty out of anger" or something close). And, they raved about the beauty of the Sawada to Scott play that lead to our goal. ("Just a perfectly executed pass". CKby CKinsland - Hockey

metaezra"Strictly platonic", eh? I dunno...if the game goes well for CU, I might be inclined to spread a little love. But, it looks like my plans are to listen to the game on the radio, trying not to wake the little people by yelling and screaming.by CKinsland - Hockey

Josh '99Whoa, that's an expensive bus ride. I guess they've gotta pay for that Keurig coffee brewer somehow, though. I actually just got off the darn thing a few hours ago. Compared to other buses it is really nice. Nice, comfortable seats (that recline way back and have pop-up footrests). Very clean. Free snacks, sodas, coffee. The volleyball team is finally returning home this weekend and they could really (really!) use some support. (They are 4-9-0 overall, 1-2-0 conference and on a 3 game losing streak.) On Friday at 7:00 they are hosting a "Passionately Pink for the Cure" night. They are asking fans to wear pink (find your feminine side) and donate to the Susan B. Komen breast cancer foundation. Sports Passport vs. Sports Pass - 16 years ago
ugarteOn the other hand, it has a genuine attempt to boost sales of the Big Red Sports Pass. So, pardon me if this is information that everybody else already knows. I, in my supreme foolishness, went and bought a Sports Pass from the website , thinking "Hey, fantastic deal. It'll pay for itself in volleyball and lacrosse alone, plus I can go to basketball, women's hockey, whatever.&quoby CKinsland - Hockey

KeithKI respect the desire to help others. I just think it is wrong to force people to do unpaid service work. As somebody with connections to a few of the major users of volunteer labor in the Ithaca area (Loaves and Fishes, a soup kitchen, being a major one), I'll say that those organizations don't necessarily enjoy having "coerced volunteers" working for them. Stanley Cup at Colgate - 16 years ago
Andy McDonald (Ducks, 'Gate a decade ago) brought the Cup to Hamilton this past Saturday. Fitting in with the discussion of routes to the NHL through the ECAC (and development issues in general): Before heading to the village for his ceremony, McDonald explained why he took a detour to Hamilton on his way to his hometown of Strathroy, Ontario. He came to Colgate as a lightly regarded pby CKinsland - Hockey

So, this got me thinking about CU volleball again, and I thought "Geez, I don't remember seeing who they hired to replace the coach. Boy, it's going to be a tough season with a new coach, Deitre was excellent." So, I looked it up and, oddly enough, they don't have a new coach. 6 months after leaving, she came back. Re: Random Lax Alum Encounter - 16 years ago
Well, you just made my older daughter's day. Matt Robbins came down during the '06-'07 school year to read to her kindergarten class (regularly). She was excited to hear news of his whereabouts. His dedication to reading to her class (and her excitement about him) was one of the major influences that pushed me to start going to lacrosse games this year. By all reports he is an extremely nby CKinsland - Other Sports
Lax Assistant Promoted + Misc. - 16 years ago
Ben DeLuca has been promoted to "Associate Head Coach" in a move presumably (well, pretty explicitly) designed to keep him from taking other offers. Meanwhile, in other news that I didn't feel like giving another topic to: Dave Sarachan ('76) is no longer the coach of ML Soccer's Chicago Fire and Jon Daniels ('99) got a 1 year contract extension as GM of the MLB's Texas Rby CKinsland - Other Sports
5 CU Lax Players Drafted - 16 years ago
"...a record for the Big Red and the most of any school." David Mitchell (attack) was 8th overall to the Boston Cannons. Matt McMonagle (1st round) went to the Long Island Lizards. Mitch Belisle: 2nd round, LA Riptide Brian Clayton: 3rd round, Rochester Rattlers Eric Pittard: 5th round, Washington Bayhawks. So best of luck to them. CKby CKinsland - Other Sports
And thank you Cornell... - 16 years ago
for giving me another sport to care about. I moved up here from Louisiana some (um, 13, cough, cough) years ago knowing nothing (and I mean pretty nearly nothing) about either hockey or lacrosse. I watched a little football, some basketball, a tad of baseball. But I never really got into them. I couldn't watch volleyball because I was still too close to my own competitive playing days.by CKinsland - Other Sports
