Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: NCAA Lax Semis - Cornell @ Duke (pre-game) - 16 years ago
Ugh, blah, me too. On the humorous side, during the "oh poor Duke, they've had to come from such adversity" 15 minutes, one commentator said something like "Well, even if Cornell loses some small part of them is going to be cheering Duke on"...implying that even Cornell players were rooting for Duke to overcome their problems. The other commentator gave him a "what aby CKinsland - Other Sports

As recieved via email: Dear hockey season ticket holder, Thank you for your diehard loyalty to Big Red ice hockey! The Cornell Athletic Department would like to show its appreciation of your support by offering men's ice hockey season ticket holders FREE admission to this Saturday's men's and women's lacrosse games at Schoellkopf Field. Re: Dave Nulle - 17 years ago
Thanks...I fixed the post (hopefully). I just think synchronized is followed by "swimming" in my head...I've never seen synchronized skating (did not, in fact, know it existed until this chronicle). Second link should now lead to the pdf version of the Cornell Chronicle. Given that I'm not a total doofus in normal life, I have an amazingly high error rate when I post here (thankby CKinsland - Hockey
Dave Nulle - 17 years ago
Dave Nulle (the Zamboni...excuse me "Olympia brand ice resurfacer" guy got some mention in the Cornell Chronicle this week. First an article about synchronized skating: p 13 of the following pdf has some pictures and a few interesting tidbits about his history: CK Edit: changed swimming to skating (boy, that was dopey) Fixed second link, which now leads to the pdfby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Volleyball coach leaves for UGA - 17 years ago
Well, that just sucks (for CU). Happy for her since she is moving closer to family and all, but jeez she had done great things in a relatively short time here. Good luck to her in her new position...good luck to the Red next year with a new coach. CKby CKinsland - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Sacred Heart Postgame - 17 years ago
So, the refereeing was a nice change. Almost no calls. (Not saying I agreed with all the non-calls or all the calls). Just nice to have a lot of 5x5 play and a flowing game (despite the direction it flowed). Binda is not an ECAC ref, true? He was one of the Estero Refs (I believe) and belongs to Hockey East? Whatever, it was a nice breather from some of the penalty-fests we've had tby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 Sacred Heart 1 (2nd period) - 17 years ago
Actually, all the glass is higher than it was before (and now, as noted, all the same height). Even the end glass was raised (maybe 8 inches or a foot). Our "old" seats were row five behind the goal...which put us looking right through the glass/net interface. Now you have to sit in row 7 or 8 to be forced to look through that interface. We are in row 2 nowadays, so moot point for uby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Skills Competition - 17 years ago
Well, yeah, he faced DiLeo...but we assume that DiLeo doesn't suck totally (despite being the #3 of our three). He got 4/6 in and the other two went off the posts. He has a quick little wrister that seemed to go where the goalie didn't expect. Whatever. The skills competition, though entertaining, tells you pretty darn little about how people will/can perform on the ice, with a team, defeby CKinsland - Hockey

Ithaca Journal article: Ithaca JournalHe, his wife, Tina, and their three children have a home in Ithaca. So, they have a home here...the Sun Sentinel says they intend to live in Florida. Maybe they'll spend significant time here, though with kids, if they "live in" Florida they'll likely be there during the school year and not much available for informal assistant coaching.by CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
Dafatone...And believe it or not, you eventually start to feel a little bad for a terrible team if you tell them they're terrible all night. At one point, after a particularly bad turnover by Union, the guy behind me said, somewhat wistfully "Poor Union, they just can't do anything right". Yeah, you do start to feel a little bad for the other team when they look so completely outmaby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: 12/2/06: Cornell 5 Union 0 (3rd) - 17 years ago
KillerCKinsland He also spent some time against Union putting the blade of his stick in the face of the guy in front of him when we were setting up behind the net. Just sort of blocking his view. Not bad, just a little weird. If you watch him closely, he is one of the dirtier goalies around. He whacks people as they go by, elbows them when he can, whatever. Jeff Hopkins '82Interesting stat from Gametracker: Only two Red players don't have a SOG, Krantz and Kennedy (and Scrivens, of course). I like Scrivens, but he does some, um, odd things...I wouldn't be all that surprised if he took off down the ice and took a SOG... First, there was the "check the guy at the blue line" play, for which he got a penalty. Then, against Union, theby CKinsland - Hockey
Re: Separate ushers-vs.-fans game thread? - 17 years ago
Well, lest the students think they are singled out for usher issues... I sit over in H (so townie side) in row 2. The guy in front of me (who has had his seats for 17 years) hits the glass at 4 distinct times in the course of the night 1-3) when the Olympia brand ice-resurfacer comes around, he whacks the glass 2-3 times to get the driver's attention and wave 4) he smacks the glass during theby CKinsland - Hockey
PP Screening Question - 17 years ago
This is a question for people that know hockey more intimately than I do (so ex-players, coaches, lifelong viewers, whatever). So, watching power plays, it seems that we have (mostly) abandoned the "keep a huge guy just in front of the goalie to 1) screen his vision, 2) deflect shots (hopefully into the net, not around it), 3) pick up rebounds and whack them into the net. Qu wins it...moves into first in ECAC. Still, considering the age of our team, we are doing okay. We aren't getting squashed, we've won more games than many expected.by CKinsland - Hockey

Rita CKinsland Well, now it's Wis 0, Minn 2 (13:47 to go in third). I've been watching this game on TV while listening to Cornell. THe Wis/Minn game is really good. Re: Alumni in the pros - odd team names - 17 years ago
Yeah, you all are right. I saw the "Mean Green" and the first thing that came to mind was Tulane (mostly because I grew up watching them, and thinking that "Green Wave" was a funny team name...Wave is odd, and Green Wave even odder, to my mind). I just wasn't paying attention. Back to odd team names...I do hope to catch a Mudbugs game sometime when I go back to Lousiana tby CKinsland - Hockey

Willy '06Maybe I'm wrong, but I know that dancing and non-offensive cheering should be allowed at pretty much any collegiate athletic event. Well, I totally agree...though I can see how the dancing could be offensive. For those that think this may be just "standard" dancing...some of it is Chippendale-esque and involves nipple-rubbing and ass-slapping. Generally the "best&qby CKinsland - Other Sports
