Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2023 NCAA Tournament: Regionals - 1 year ago
My goodness. I fear to think what might have happened if Donato only had 12 or 13 draft picks on the roster....by gored - Hockey
Re: 2023 ECAC Post Season - 1 year ago
Agree with Rich. The rivalry is fairly even with each team having short runs of success before the balance tips back. Although we lost three times this year (two of which were winnable), we won some hardware and they did not. And no they are not going to win the NCAA trophy.by gored - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Yale (2/25/23) - 1 year ago
I also thought the Ivy Champs article was wrong until I realized the point scoring system. Who knows why the standings don't reflect the points earned?by gored - Hockey
Re: 2022 Takeaways - longest ECAC drought - 2 years ago
Agree. Harvard's team in 1989 was outstanding and they still needed some luck to win it. Yale was incredibly lucky to win in 2013 (yes, they were good, but def not the best team in the nation or even the ECAC that year). We just haven't had the lucky breaks.by gored - Hockey
Re: The Future - 2 years ago
Agree w/ Trotsky. He is prob a year away from being starter material.by gored - Hockey
Re: Quarterfinals at Q - 11 years ago
I think I prefer Iles at this point. This is the worst game I have seen in a very long time. It almost doesn't seem real.by gored - Hockey
Re: Quarterfinals at Q - 11 years ago
This is Q's Spring Break. Much to our advantage.by gored - Hockey
Re: We can't possibly win - 11 years ago
Although this may posted elsewhere (other than by me) tonight's game is televised live on NESN.by gored - Hockey
Re: Quarterfinals at Q - 11 years ago
Although I am sure this is posted elsewhere (I didn't have the energy to search), Sat game is televised live on NESN. Let's Go Red!by gored - Hockey
Re: Tewaaraton Finalists - 12 years ago
How on earth did Stanwick win it? Can't believe it.by gored - Other Sports
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
I would bring to light a delightful point that made me feel better this morning after last night's bitter loss: Nobody on Harvard's current team has ever played in the NCAA tournament. And nobody on next year's Harvard team will have either. No matter what happened to our team, at least we aren't them.by gored - Hockey
Re: UHN Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
adamw I can't even believe this conversation exists. Every other ECAC team would kill for Cornell's success, as would about 30 other NCAA teams. It's not the '60s .... be happy with what you have. And when you call Cornell "just a bunch of of big, slow guys" then it shows you really just aren't paying attention. Schafer squeezes every ounce out of the program. Saying his system dby gored - Hockey
Re: UHN Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
I guess the point here is that Schafer may not have won an NCAA title, but it is very hard to so that. Even Michigan hasn't won in more than a decade. I have watching Cornell hockey for well over 20 years. I realize we have a proud tradition and that our system isn't perfect, but the results under Schafer are WAY better than the previous two regimes. We are at least good on a consistent basis.by gored - Hockey
Re: UHN Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
Steve Alford has been a Division 1 basketball head coach for more than 10 years at schools that offer scholarships, and yet has only advanced past the NCAA 2nd round once. That even includes this year when his top 10 ranked New Mexico Lobos team was trounced by a school that barely even made it into the tournament. He is a decorated man with Bobby Knight as a mentor, who should be able to produby gored - Hockey
Re: ECAC Game Viewings - 14 years ago
Hey Rita, I was wondering the same thing. I am in North Bay Village. If not for the semis, then for the final?by gored - Hockey
Cornell mentioned by Seth Davis - 14 years ago
We get a nice compliment from Seth in his weekly thoughts:by gored - Other Sports
Re: Sucks - 14 years ago
In my opinion, I would love for everyone in the ECAC to be competitive (with us being the best), EXCEPT Sucks. Truthfully, if we are going to be behind someone in the league, I would much rather it be Q or Yale than Sucks. Maybe I will hate Yale more in a few years, but for now there is no comparison to Sucks.by gored - Hockey
Re: Sucks - 14 years ago
Actually that is an interesting point of discussion. What do you guys think of Donato's future? This is his 6th season and he is essentially .500 for his career. Including this year, three of the last 4 will be losing campaigns. The two best years were the first, with Mazzoleni's players. How long will Sucks keep him? From our prespective, the longer the better if they perform so poorly.by gored - Hockey
Sucks - 14 years ago
I still can't believe how much Sucks Univ is living up to their name. Did they seriously lose to Brown at home? And only one win with all those great recruits? This is my favorite Sucks U season of all time.by gored - Hockey
Re: Some competition on the way? - 14 years ago
My fav part is how Harvard lowered their admissions standards to help Amaker. No big surprise there.by gored - Other Sports
Re: UNH hockey gets nailed - 14 years ago
Yes, it reminds me of when the refs misinterpreted the high stick rule and disallowed Shane Palahicky's goal in the FF.by gored - Hockey
Re: UNH hockey gets nailed - 14 years ago
I actually would rather they stay eligible. So that we can face them and eliminate them. We still owe them....by gored - Hockey
