Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: No More HockeyCam - 21 years ago
If they keep improving things at this rate there'll be no Faithful left to enjoy how wonderful it's gonna be. Told ya: bunker mentality. Add spiteful to my already lengthy list of descriptors. Instead of using the HockeyCam as a unique recruiting tool, they pull the plug. Maybe they want to drag the hockey program down to the same level as football, basketball, and baseball. Re: HAS ANYONE BEEN ABLE TO GET THE YALE LINK TO WORK? - 21 years ago
I got it with that state-of-the-art browser, Netscape 4.7. Whenever I try to install a newer Netscape, it grinds through about 80% of the installation and then Windows blows up. Bill G's a clever guy.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Haven't tried it since, but it worked for me during the North Dakota game.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: New Banners - 21 years ago
When Yale finished first in the 97-98 regular season they raised an "ECAC Champions" banner (since removed, I believe) the following fall. Is it safe to assume Cornell did not do the same for last year?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

I've never heard of so many blown-out knees caused by bowling. These guys must teach a very strange technique.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Jim, I said exactly that in my email to Anita Brenner sent two days ago. I'm not hopeful, however. I think they've hunkered down and are stonewalling, but I'd really like to be wrong. Re: Professionalism... - 21 years ago
Amen, Rich. A very articulate statement of why I no longer have the slightest interest in "big-time" college sports, and hope to see the Ivy approach continued without corruption.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: a defense??? - 21 years ago
That's why it didn't matter which approach they chose. It affected no one anyway, so it was clearly easier for Princeton to "let George do it." Who's going to object? Hockey Mom?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Age Manocchia '98 wrote: ...as Anita Brenner didn't seem to believe me when I said I could have handled all the sports quite easily. They live in their own intellectual vacuum over there and revel in it. I suspect part of the problem we're dealing with now is the setting in of a "bunker mentality." Ken '71 Bravo, Ken. Seems to me any protest sent to Athletics or elsewhere has to include this sentiment. The whole thing has just reeked of a "let 'em eat cake"by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Jason Demby '99 wrote: ...someone please clarify/recap for me the exact reasons that you are all pissed off at them... Well, Jason, let's start by saying Vermont, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Colgate, RPI, Union, Yale, Brown, Harvard, and Dartmouth all thought enough of their fan following to find a way to provide free Internet broadcasts for them this season--despite Laura's whining "Internet upby Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Clarkson On the Hotseat!!! - 21 years ago
Someone wrote on the Clarkson Round Table that he was at the Saturday practice and saw Morris hit a player. This is likely to get very messy, I regret to say. Really too bad, if true.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Not surprised at any dumb thng they do... - 21 years ago
I hope we've all taken the time to email Noel and the subordinate he's apparently designated to handle unpleasant issues, Anita Brenner, to express our disappointment and irritation at this really stupid and short-sighted decision. Unfortunately, I neglected to ask what is probably the operative question: How much would it in fact have cost to provide the Internet broadcasts free? The bottomby Al DeFlorio - Hockey

the following eBay auctions may be of interest: I should note I have no stake in this endeavor, but thought some of the Faithful here might have an interest. I hope this doesn't violate any of Age's restrictions on the use of eLynah. If so, Age, please feel free to delete.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Re: Links to free audio broadcasts by Cornell's opponents - 21 years ago
And my point, John, is that, despite the hype of the press release and FAQs, all of this was available last year and there's nothing whatsoever "improved" in the new offering.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Links to free audio broadcasts by Cornell's opponents - 21 years ago
I could be wrong but I believe all these sports were available over the 'net last year. Football, hockey, and lacrosse certainly were. I have too vivid memories of the collapse against Brown last spring costing us an Ivy title. So "where's the beef?"by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
