Not strictly the right place for this, as he's not a Cornell alum, but his brother coached Andy Iles for a while, and I think it's important to remember people:by ACM - Hockey
Re: Video at Colgate - RedRaiderCast done right - 12 years ago
billhoward When Cornell played at Colgate Saturday with 950 heavy-hitter Cornell alumni gathered at a conference in D.C., Cornell U (alumni affairs) trusted the Raider feed enough to put it on a 24-foot screen. I saw only one freeze during the game, quickly resolved, and the only glitch was uneven volume levels on account of the Colgate announcer going wild and his voice raising +30 dB in the tby ACM - Hockey

dbilmes I went to the Q-Colgate game and after playing a good first period, Colgate looked terrible. On one Colgate powerplay, Q had two shorthanded breakaways, scoring on the second one. The first Q goal was a soft goal from just inside the blue line, and the next two goals were on rebounds that Colgate couldn't clear. I was watching the game with a Colgate fan who complained that Slater keeps pby ACM - Hockey

The attached photo (taken by Tim McKinney) captures, as I understand it, the entire history of public address announcing at Cornell football games. Elmer "Flip" Phillips '32 is on the left, Barlow Ware '47 in the middle, and the current guy, whose name escapes me at the moment, is on the right.by ACM - Hockey

Larry72 Traditions evolve. Jim and some others will remember Ozzie (someone help me with his last name) blowing his air-horn as Cornell came on the ice. He used to try and time it just as the ref (only one at that time) skated in front of him. Referee, Giles Threadgold (a character in his own right) used to hate that!! Re: ECAC Playoffs - the AC experience/ game notes - 13 years ago
Jim Hyla Ok a couple of questions. First were the officials the same for both games? I wondered that watching it and that's what all the box scores say. Also, did they announce an attendance figure? None of the box scores that I checked lists it. Finally is there anyone going who could buy me a program? Of course I'll reimburse you. If you could, post it, I don't want 3 or 4. Thanks. Towerroad nyc94 Jeff Hopkins '82 When I went to school, Cornell required 8 liberal electives for engineers - one per semester - plus two unrestriced electives senior year. While I wasn't going to enjoy the writing aspect of them, some of them (Psych 101, US History 1945-1980, and of course wine-tasting) turned out to be some of the most interesting classes I took at Cornell. OTOH, some of themby ACM - Hockey

ACM snert1288 it was just announced that Cornell will be hosting Dartmouth in the first round of the NCAA tournament. the other teams on our side of the bracket are BU and Mercyhurst. as far as i know the game time has not yet been announced. Women's hockey page on Facebook thinks the game will be Saturday at 3pm. However, Athletics Department is equivocating: http://www.cornellbigred.com/by ACM - Hockey

Re: The Sad Thread: Worst Losses in Cornell History - 13 years ago
hypotenuse The 9-0 loss to BU at Lynah, mentioned above, was truly a disaster. I think it broke a very long home unbeaten streak for Cornell-- I was then a junior, had attened every game and had never seen us lose at home. I believe the prior home loss had been to Yale-- a game also mentioned above in this thread as our only regular season loss that year, to which Cornell responded by beating Yalby ACM - Hockey

Re: The Sad Thread: Worst Losses in Cornell History - 13 years ago
A couple of games that aren't exactly "losses", but which rank among the most painful games ever: 12/13/72 9-0 beating at the hands of BU at Lynah (that later was awarded to Cornell by forfeit for BU's use of an ineligible player, but which Cornell still considers a loss) 1/4/85 10-10 tie vs. McGill in Montreal; while not a loss, probably one of the ugliest games in Cornell historyby ACM - Hockey

Re: Cornell 4 - SLU 3 (ot) - 13 years ago
tretiak Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, and it doesn't even mean I've never seen one before last weekend, but I can't think of an example from college hockey. Sawada got a 5 minute boarding penalty without a game misconduct in the second game of the ECAC QFs against Quinnipiac on March 10, 2007. Couldn't find a box score. Hopefully someone else can. Re: Cornell 4 - SLU 3 (ot) - 13 years ago
redice Tom Lento WillCMJr Anyone know why Nicholls was out the 3rd period? Noticed him at the end of the rink in a suit. His penalty was only a 5min. In the NCAA I believe 5 minute majors come with an automatic game misconduct or game disqualification, depending on the type and severity of the penalty. I don't know if Nicholls got a misconduct or a DQ (I seem to remember it being a misconductby ACM - Hockey

dag14 More on the historical note -- I think that team was 0-5-1 at Christmas and won 20 straight down the stretch. Other than being factually incorrect, this is an insightful observation. The 79-80 team played 6 games before the holiday break, won 2 and lost 4. After the break: 2W, 3L, 4W, 4L, 3W, 2L, 5W (the wins over Providence and BU to get into the top 8, then the wins over BC, Proby ACM - Hockey
Re: Quick Question - Women's ticketing? - 13 years ago
jtwcornell91 BTW, I noticed that there was a new red banner in the rafters, but the three new white banners had not appeared yet. Are they waiting to do some sort of raising at the first non-exhibition home game? Re: Cornell 5 Princeton 1 - 13 years ago
KeithK Just for clarity, could we get in the habit of putting a tag in the title of threads like this to indicate which team you're talking about? It may be clear to regulars that the women played Princeton and the men played UNH this past weekend, but maybe not to casual fans and certainly not if you're searching through threads a few months from now. Maybe it's time to have separate forums foby ACM - Hockey

Re: Potential NCAA Rule Changes - 14 years ago
Trotsky KeithKNot sure what the rule(s) is but there could be two schools of thought. One is to always take the first penalty off the board. The second would be to remove the penalty that caused the powerplay that resulted in the goal (the second penalty in your example). There could be, but AFAIK it is universal that the penalty that created the power-play (the final one) is the one that is wiby ACM - Hockey
