LeNeveu played the 3rd period in Phoenix's 7-1 loss to Edmonton last night. He allowed 1 goal on 11 shots.

He made one awesome save and had no chance on the one timer goal. Check the video for highlights of both. 3rd period so towards end.

When I saw the 7-1 score last night, I was very relieved to see that Cujo was the starter.

Joseph will not be back in Phoenix next year so expect LeNeveu to get a legitimate shot at the number one duties.

Well, this thread got me thinking about my other hockey viewing opportunities...namely a way to avoid spending time with my inlaws when next we go to Louisiana to visit. Since the Louisiana Icegators [en.wikipedia.org] have ceased to be, I'm planning to coordinate the obligatory inlaw trip to catch a Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs [www.mudbugshockey.com] game next fall.
Luckily, both Shane Palahicky and Jeremy Downs play for the Mudbugs (and Travis Bell was playing there last season). So I can wear my Cornell red and cheer my boys on.
There is a nice listing of Palahicky's contributions to the team last season.
Go Mudbugs!

Not only that, but he's been having himself a nice little career down in Alabama. He's averaged about a point per game there for the last seven years, not to mention seasons of 340, 306 and 272 penalty minutes.Chris '03

All 3 goalies are listed on the Phoenix roster, none on the San Antonio roster, and no transactions reflected on the AHL site. May they just be carrying 3 goalies?

The Islanders who won games 1 and 2 at Nassau Coliseum and the Penguins won games 3 and 4 at the Igloo. It was the game 5 third-period comeback that made that series so remarkable, though the Penguins' wins in games 3 and 4 were impressive considering how they had been blown out in the first two games.jkahnand the Isles were down 3-1 with about 6 minutes left in the 3rd period of game 5.TrotskyJordanCS

(Sorry.)
1985 was the year the Islanders won a 5-game first-round series after falling behind two games to none. That series was against the Capitals.
If you want to get a Penguins fan's goat, bringing up the 1993 Patrick Division finals would be far more effective. That year, the Islanders derailed a potential Penguins dynasty--something the Penguins could not do when the skate had been on the other foot in 1982.
I doubt that a reminder of the Islanders' comeback from a three-games-to-none deficit against the Penguins in 1975 would get the same reaction. That was too long ago, and the Penguins weren't favorites to win the Cup that year.

I am rooting for the Sharks becuase they need the points, but to win just 1-0 in OT.

Back on March 2 I attended a Coyotes game and wore more Cornell jersey. I was 4 rows directly behind where Gretzky was standing on the bench. Before the game he turned around and saw me standing there with my Cornell jersey and gave me an acknowledging smile.
Sharks just scored at the end of a full 2 minute 5 on 3 after some great saves by Lenny.

Tough night for Dave, as he gets the short end of a 3-2 score. SJ converted both ends of a 5x3 mid-2nd period to go up 3-1 and Phoenix didn't have the guns to tie it back up. Tough to get wins when your team goes 0x5 on the power play and the other team goes 2x7.
In related news, Matt Carle and Tom Preissing both had assists last night for San Jose. Considering how well those two guys are playing, I'm kinda nervous about Doug's chances of picking up too much playing time in the near future.

Very intereting indeed. There's no question that Nieuwendyk is and has been one of the more dominant face-off men in the League, and there's also no question that our face-off percentages take a jump when Joe is available for some part-time, part-season volunteer assistant coaching. I'm sure no one here is hoping for an early end to his career, but the Big Red are distinctly helped by his presence...

Has a Cornell player ever scored on a Cornell goaltender in an NHL game? (Nieuwy and Hayward would be my guess.) Have two Cornell goaltenders ever faced each other in an NHL game? (Hayward and Eliot, perhaps?) Have two Cornell players ever played together on the same team in an NHL game? (Nieuwy and Dadswell?)

I doubt Hayward and Eliot played in the same game, because Eliot didn't play in that many games.
Were there any Cornell goalies active when Manderville was playing? Not that he scored a whole lot of goals, mind you. Did he ever play with Nieuwy?
I'd suspect, as you, the best possibility for a Cornell player scoring on a Cornell goalie would be Nieuwy and Hayward.

Doug Murray is playing tonight.
Midway through the 2nd, kings 2-0 over the sharks (shg and a ppg). Doug wasn't on the ice (or in the box) for either of the kings goals.
But in the 3rd, Dougie delivers a hit on KOSTOPOULOS who then hits Doug from behind, but no call, so they decide to settle it themselves, but the refs decided that was "unsportsmenlike".
3-0 Kings, about 13 minutes left.
Final 4-0 Kings. Doug finished a -1 on the night. It was Lucky Luc Robatille's last game, but he did not register a point in tonight's game.
Sharks face Nashville in the first round of the playoffs, The Kings are golfing.

actually think he let up 4. the 5th went in on a delayed phx penalty when a defenseman shot it into his own net. i dont think lenny was in net at the time (you would presume he was skating to the bench)

Are you sure? Does that mean when you pull the goalie and the other team scores a goal that this counts against the goalie's average? If this is not the case why the disparity?
Wow a post of all questions.

I can't find the rule right now, but I'm pretty sure no one gets the GA if the goalie is pulled to gain an offensive advantage, but the goale of record gets charged if he's pulled on a delayed penalty.

I can't find the rule right now, but I'm pretty sure no one gets the GA if the goalie is pulled to gain an offensive advantage, but the goale of record gets charged if he's pulled on a delayed penalty.
To be fair, on a delayed penalty, you *are* pulling the goalie to gain an offensive advantage. Doesn't mean it may not be the rule, just means its a pretty hollow distinction if it is.

Would it make a difference whether or not he'd actually reached the bench at the time the goal was scored?
And why would the opposing goalie get credit for the goal? Even if it were an own-goal, why choose him?
Which makes me wonder, how does one determine scoring on own-goals?

I'm pretty sure its just done by the closest player to the net at the time it was scored. I have no idea how that would end up being the opposing goalie since you would think he is the furthest from the goal when it happens, so perhaps I am wrong.

I think it's still the last person on that team to touch the puck.

The article about the game said that the film was carefully reviewed and the goalie was the last player to have touched the puck.

I don't think it's been mentioned, but Matt Underhill was named ECHL Goaltender of the Year and an ECHL All-Star:

That's great for Matt. Gotta figure he'll get another shot in the AHL after this.

I don't know if this counts but...
Good to hear Brian Hayward doing the color on NBC for the Avs vs Stars game yesterday (in April). Hopefully he will do more. Sounded pretty good to me. Avery was wrong.

Joseph will not be back in Phoenix next year so expect LeNeveu to get a legitimate shot at the number one duties.
