Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2022-23 Men's Schedule - 3 years ago
Thanks, as always, for putting this together, Jim. I've already entered the ECAC dates on my calendar. As for typos, etc., the November 4 listing for Princeton needs an one more 'n.' Thanks again! Andyby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence postgame - 3 years ago
JasonN95 I thought the control on the PP was good and I like the slot one timer setup they try with Berard. Wasn't that attempt from the slot with Berard last night the exact play Andreev scored on last week at MSG? Assuming so, it was executed perfectly both times. (SLU's goalie just got a little luckier.)by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 3 years ago
marty Or take a minute to show one!! Sam Malinski, third period! I hadn't noticed this watching in real-time, but check out the BU player Malinski beats. He leaves his stick on the ice and kinda throws his hands up in despair!by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Game thread - 3 years ago
upprdeck while we were sloppy at times last night on D the will to fight thru checks and control pucks last night was impressive, even the hustle to get to the pucks and go around defenders was relentless all night Pretty late in the third period, when the game was long-since decided, Andreev went down to successfully block a hard shot and actually came up a little lame. That said a lot!by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Game thread - 3 years ago
Iceberg dbilmes I feel sorry for RPI goalie. Why did they leave him in the entire game? Is their backup that bad? That was my thought. Marshall should've been pulled as early as the fluky 4th goal. His defense didn't do him any favors but he shouldn't have been in there after the 1st period. We were wondering if perhaps the backup goalie was nursing some injury that they didn't want to risk aby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Game thread - 3 years ago
jtwcornell91 The band would play Davy in 3/4 tempo if we scored a bunch of goals, just to be different. Interesting! I didn't know that. Thanks!by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Game thread - 3 years ago
jtwcornell91 I was listening for Davy in 3 after the 10th goal, and it didn't sound like it. Has the band forgotten about that (no lacrosse since the current seniors were freshmen), or was it just too hard to hear on the broadcast? Not sure what "Davy in 3" is, but I'm somewhat surprised you could hear much of the band on the broadcast at all. By the end of the game I think theyby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: No Shots On Goal Display At Lynah - 3 years ago
facemadeforradio Forgive my long windedness (hey, it's what I do...) as the OP was about the videoboard, but it ties into the ESPN+ streaming side of it as well. While some insight may give some perspective, I understand it's not likely to curb the dissatisfaction of some. I appreciate the feedback and the insight. I have no issue with the replays being shown on the board just being the ESPNby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: No Shots On Goal Display At Lynah - 3 years ago
marty I'll also call out the request for noise from the scoreboard followed by noise over the address system that drowned out the cowbell cadence. We don't need any stinkin' scoreboard to ask for noise. We're not robo-crowd. To paraphrase "Tommy": "Arthur can you hear me? Agree 100%! That was a pre-recorded bit, though, and definitely not Arthur's voice. The irony of thby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: No Shots On Goal Display At Lynah - 3 years ago
Yeah, I'm also not thrilled with the penalty time display. I think it was on the main board at least some of the time, as smaller type near the score. But it wasn't consistent. Much smaller peeve...just after the game ended all three scoreboards were doing some "we won" graphic display thing. None were actually displaying the winning score. Call me a traditionalist, but I like a scorby andyw2100 - Hockey
No Shots On Goal Display At Lynah - 3 years ago
There are now three relatively new electronic scoreboards at Lynah and none are at any time showing shots on goal. All the space being devoted to ads is just great, but who do you think we have to convince to take 5% of the space on even just one of the smaller boards and give us the shots on goal stat back? I don't even need the stats updated in real time: at the end of each period, as it has aby andyw2100 - Hockey

Scersk '97 Adam quoting GaudetAnd (Cornell coach Mike) Schafer gets on, and of course my (Zoom) background is the background in my basement, and Schafer's is a background picture of me. And I looked like Chucky, got my brow all furled up. Zing! Bet it was Mark A.'s picture:by andyw2100 - Hockey

KenP French Rage Trotsky French Rage Weder This is a nice gallery of both teams' seasons. The Sun has some really good photographers right now. That Tupker one is amazing. That whole sequence was amazing. His teammates almost killed him. The goal of the year for pure joy. Clip? You can see the goal at 6:55 in the Cornell Season Review video clip posted elsewhere. Watching that again justby andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: Schafer Shares Penrose Award - 4 years ago
upprdeck Would saying who he was a co-winner with be too much to add to the story? If the above was directed at me, I had searched, and couldn't find it. There was nothing on USCHO or CHN. If it was directed at whomever posted the Facebook story, I agree.by andyw2100 - Hockey

KenP Friendly reminder. My app said next billing is on March 15. If you are like me and have had a monthly subscription to follow Cornell athletics... now would be a good time to cancel. Thanks! I had considered doing this last night, before having read your post, but decided that there were still some replays I might like to show my daughter. Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
Lots of discussion about $6 refunds on $20 (or close to it) tickets. But let's look at the big numbers / big issues as they apply not only to Cornell but to all the schools that are canceling "in-person" classes and sending the students home. Will the schools be issuing partial tuition refunds? The students did not pay for "distance learning." It doesn't seem at all fair to chby andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
The Rancor all the fans should show up as the PU buses show up and yell from outside the building- into microphones running through the PA. I actually wondered about the possibility of a bunch of fans showing up to watch the game on ESPN+ from just outside Lynah. I'm guessing, though, since Cornell is still private property Campus Police would disperse any crowd.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
I wonder what this means for the championships in Lake Placid. I imagine Lake Placid relies on the tourism revenue from that weekend quite a bit. Perhaps that will allow them to make a more rational decision.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
adamw RPI just closed its doors to fans for this weekend ... I expect Cornell/Clarkson will do the same eventually. I'm not sure how I feel about the following, but would be interested in others' thoughts. I wonder if the ECAC would consider moving the game to Harvard. Yes, RPI earned the right to host the game, but if they aren't going to allow fans, are they really hosting? Were I an Rby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2020 ECAC Prelim Round - 4 years ago
Union appeared to have netted the game-winner, but it was immediately waved off (presumably for goaltender interference), and after a long review the call on the ice was upheld. Shortly after play restarted Yale scored while the Union goaltender once again did not have his stick. So Yale advances.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2020 ECAC Prelim Round - 4 years ago
andyw2100 Union at Yale, tied at 1, about to start OT in the third and decisive game. Will be going to a second OT in New Haven. Yale controlled the puck in the Union end for close to two minutes while the Union goalie didn't have his stick for much of that time, and made several saves. I was surprised that none of the Union players gave the goalie their stick. Is that not a thing these daysby andyw2100 - Hockey

French Rage andyw2100 Trotsky Dartmouth scores with 2.3 seconds to go. 4-4. The icing Princeton took that led to that goal was just stupid. The Princeton player chose to take a ridiculous shot at the empty net over doing something smarter with the puck that would have allowed his team to advance. Just really dumb play. But thank god Harvard did that in 2003! Yeah, I was thinking about thatby andyw2100 - Hockey
