Well, I put together the hockey TV schedule, so as a fan and participant of curling (Cornell Curling Club Alumni Liason), it was useful to me to throw the curling schedule together as well.  So I thought I'd share.

This is more straightforward than the hockey schedules.  Basically, matches happen live at 3 am, 8 am, and 1 pm, EST.  NBC is airing USA prelim matches, and the medal round.  The 3 am and 8 am matches will most likely be live.  The 1 pm matches are airing tape-delayed at 5 pm.  With a couple of exceptions, there will be curling-only shows every night on CNBC from 5-8 pm, and live Curling at 8 am on USA.

Thank you Rich!!

I got hooked on Curling during the 2002 olympics and was wondering what the coverage was going to be. I still do not understand it all, but I was mesmerized watching the stones slide down the ice. This time around I think I will catch most of it by taping.

I just saw a nice ppg by the swedish women hockey team, now 2-0 Sweden over Russia (game on CNBC).

I was going to start a thread about this, but I'll just sneak it in here.  I just saw a bit of curling on the TV, and I'm not sure I understand why there are separate men's and women's team.  For many sports, I understand the basic idea -- guys can get bigger and stronger than girls, generally, so it'd be unfair to match them together.  But from what I can tell of curling, it's a game that deals more with precision than anything else.  Maybe I missed something, but there didn't seem to be anything those men did that a 17 year old girl wouldn't be able to do as well.  So... why not just coed curling?

Maybe. I've never played, so it is just a theory.

Why there are different men's and women's teams for archery and riflery, on the other hand, is a separate question. (FWIW, men and women used to compete against each other in riflery ... until women were actually competitive. Then they got their own sport. You figure out what that means.)

The olympic medals do look like bagels.

Anyone watching Curling on CNBC now? What did you think of the special "curling bread". Yeah, they do kind of look like curling stones. I'm sure there are also some other descriptions warped imaginations can come up with.

Okay, back to the hockey forum.

Didn't the Scottish guy say it looked kind of "sexy"?  ::twitch::

Anyway, the tape-delayed curling shows are a good place for TiVo, and not just because they come on at 16:00 in my time zone.  I skipped through a lot of the fluff and just watched the match.

The Olympics can hook you on sports you don't think much about otherwise.

Curling is one sport where HDTV isn't necessary to see the puck/ball/object-in-play.

Tonight's fluff is one of the Finnish curlers. He had an interesting look on his face when presented with the curling loaf. And he was very adept with a Rubik's cube as well.

Anybody else think Fred Roggins looks a bit like the Gopher from the Love Boat? I wish they would show all the stones for each end. I would like to see more on how they set up the guards. Maybe they showed that in some of the earlier coverage, I didn't get home until 6 pm EST.
edit: CNBC heard me. 7th end from the beginning. :-P

I will definitley put TiVo on next year's Christmas list. This year, satellite radio was more of a priority. Also by then I should be living somewhere with better cable/TV options that what I currently get in my apartment.

As in 2002, I think much of the appeal is due to the "Dons" doing the announcing.  Their enjoyment of the sport comes through clearly on the telecasts.  It also doesn't hurt that anybody watching curling probably thinks he or she could learn to do that too.

I dunno...they're all under ugarte's post which includes a link to his blog...
Of course, every post of his includes links to his blogs in his signatures, so maybe it's just coincidence that they choose the same post every time to reply to.
