From SI:

'7. Cornell
(25-8-2, lost in quarterfinals; 14 returning lettermen)
The Big Red ran away with the Eastern College Athletic Conference regular-season title (17-3-2), only to lose in double overtime to Harvard in the conference tournament final. Cornell's best player, 6'3", 240-pound senior Doug Murray, is the rare intimidating Swedish-born defenseman. Murray, one of five Cornell players who scored at least 30 points- all of whom return- was the seventh-highest scoring defenseman in the country with 32 points. Also back are senior Sam Paolini, who had a team-high 15 goals, and senior Stephen Bâby, who led the Big Red in assists, with 23. Sophomore David LeNeveu takes over as the No. 1 goaltender, after putting together an 11-2-1 record and a tiny 1.50 goals-against-average.'

Here are their rankings:
1. Minnesota
2. Michigan
3. New Hampshire
4. Denver
5. BU
6. BC
7. Cornell
8. Maine
9. Michigan State
10. St. Cloud

All in all, I must say my heart skipped when I saw this little piece...it's nice to get some recognition in a national publication. On an aggravating note,  tt seems that pro-scouts are very high on Chris Higgins as SI's Pierre McGuire rated him as one of five college players who can make an impact in the pros....makes me hate the little Long Islander that much more.

Sorry for any typos, but my brains are being fried by law apps....need Lynah to bring some sanity back into my life!!!!! LGR!!!!!

Oh yeah, one more thing....Murray is ranked in the top 10 Hobey candidates (DUH!!). He is the fith player listed behind Dominic Moron), but I don't know if that means that they rank him in fourth place (it's not alphabetical). Here is what SI's capsule says about him:
"Clears the crease as well as any defenseman; seven PP goals last year"

damn it, no mention of his swedish laser...swedes are all about the laser. LGR!!!

While SI running a 3-page college hockey preview for the second year in a row almost caused me to fall off the dining room chair I was seated in, The Hockey News also did its annual NCAA hockey preview in the current issue, and boy, are those preseason rankings ambitious.

1) Denver; 2) BU; 3) Cornell

The publication also had Cornell winning the ECAC championship and said in the season outlook "This team is loaded and is a national contender."

HSBC Arena, make way for the Big Red?

Woops....Just noticed that on a page of player profiles (current and former college players drafted by NHL teams), The Hockey News has a Colgate logo next to Doug Murray's picture. There's not a transfer to Hamilton in the works, is there? ;-)

So what else is new.  Saturday's USA Today scoreboard had Yale beating "Cornell College, Iowa," 50-23, in football.

For what it's worth, Becky and Jayson have Cornell in Buffalo, too.

Yeah, USA Today has all the Cornell games double-listed with Cornell College.  Something funny's going on there.

so i guess that makes for some tough out of conference action this season huh? bu and maine

All of those mistakes pale in comparison to this:  On the Cornell athletics page, in a bit of wishful thinking, the result of the Yale game is Cornell 50, Yale 23.

Al DeFlorio

No wonder they think we should pay $7/month to listen to 'em. ::nut::

jason

The $7/month actually buys you an audio feed from Bizarro Cornell where the football team did beat Yale 50-23. :-P

Greg Berge

The higher the scouts are on Higgins, the sooner he's gone...

Very annoying, I've checked SIs on the NY and NJ newsstands and none have this college hockey preview, was it only in copies mailed to subsribers?

Will\'01

i am a subscriber in New York City...so that might be it. BTW...i just got THN's hockey preview, and honestly the Hockey News makes Dougie sound like a GOD, or THOR to the Scandinavians amongst us.  ::laugh::

Greg Berge

Doug's Swedish.  Thor's Norse.  I dunno what Doug's thunder god would be -- probably something closer to Lithuanian.

Greg Berge

Does anyone have the THN pre-season top-10?  It isn't on their web site and I'm not a subscriber for the first time in about 6 years.
