How in the world did Minnesota and Denver get first place votes--and Maine not?  ::screwy::

Wow, these polls prove more and more worthless every week especially so early in the season.  Cornell is being extremely overrated, IMO.  Apparently the pollsters only see that they are returning their Hobey-nominated goaltender and leading scorer and not that they lost three of their top four forwards and two most reliable defensemen.  I'm not saying that Cornell could not end up being very good this season, but as I see it, there are a ton of question marks at this point.

Well, Minny and Denver were 1 and 2 last week and a couple of guys refuse to believe what they saw on the ice last weekend.  After all, these are WCHA teams, so they have to be title contenders...

As always the early polls are based largely on program reputation, with a little bit of last year's results (Minny/Denver) and last weekend's results thown in.  Whether or not it's accurate at all (I tend to agree with you Ari) it is extremely gratifying that Cornell is getting the big program reputation boost at this point.

No question that the expert people around the college hockey world are now giving Cornell a seat at the table and that represents Cornell's ascension to college hockey's elite.  I personally think they are very very close to being there, but not quite at that level yet.  With Lynah's renovation and next year's spectacular recruiting class, I believe they will get there in the next three years.

This apparently included the announcers on CSTV who had Minnesota ahead of Alaska-Fairbanks in the third period when they trailed...and another source ::shifty:: that I saw on Saturday who had Alaska-Fairbanks scoring to tie the game near the end of regulation when in fact it was Minnesota that had to score to bring the game into OT.

According to our discussion here  http://elf.elynah.com/read.php?1,66386,66578#msg-66578 the renovations are expected to begin in the spring of '06.  So no big hole should be expected yet.

Originally, the renovation was to begin in January and be done for the 06-07 season.  But Schafer indciated at The Line that it wouldn't be done until the 07-08 season.
