Yep.  I'm already in town (drove in last night when it was definitely above freezing), and will be there at 4:45.  Recognize me by my road jersey #96.

I note that the featured game in this week's USCHO ECAC column is the Big Red -- Little Crimson showdown.  The column picks up a bit on the "rivalry" thread here and includes the following quote:

"'It's a big thing for them,' said Harvard head coach Mark Mazzoleni when asked about the rivalry. 'Harvard has its own backyard rivalries here with Boston College, Boston University and Northeastern. Those are the traditional rivals along with Harvard and Yale, which has been a tremendous rivalry over the years. I don't know what Cornell's focus is when they play, but it seems like it's us which is fine.'"

I seem to have totally missed out on this storied Harvard-Yale hockey rivalry.  I've occasionally heard people mention that there is one, but I don't ever recall hearing of a legendary Havard-Yale game or how pumped fans of either school were to be facing their arch rival.  (And remember which team Erich Segal used as the Crimson's nemesis in _Love_Story_.)  Maybe I should watch my tape of the Harvard-Yale ECAC GOTW last year for some insight into this.

I think there's not specifically a hockey rivalry between Harvard and yale, but there's such a huge football / academic rivalry that it could possibly be applied to all of the sports in sort of a general way.  My brother was in the band at Harvard (wow, I can't believe I'm admitting that in public!) and all of their hate songs are aimed at yale.  The number of people that show up for the Harvard/Yale football game every year is insane.

And the Harvard hockey game at Yale is now played in New Haven's Veterans Coliseum to handle the crowd.  Something like 60,000 people were in the Bowl for this year's Y-H football game (probably more than were at all Cornell's games combined).  It IS a big rivalry.

Let's GO Red!!!!

I am surpised nobody mentioned this...but for the first time this year, Cornell gave up exactly 3 goals.

Al DeFlorio

Let me know, Ben, when you see a Yale-Harvard hockey game.

Al, we are all entitled to our own opinion, let's just leave it at that.

LGR!!!
Let's GO Red!!!!

Yeah. we were talking about the 3 goal stat. Judy hypothhesized that we were saving it for Harvard. Maybe it was a conselation prize??

If anyone cares, here is how the Boston Globe described Lynah in their Sat morning edition:

"All this came before a chanting standing-room-only crowd at Lynah Rink, college hockey's version of Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium, only more disrespectful. Greeted by a seafood medley of fish and lobsters tossed onto the ice by Cornell fans during pregame warmups, Harvard was then assaulted by the Big Red offense."

The sucking continues in the Beanpot.  Northeastern up 5-2 late in the game.  Grumet-Morris flubbed NU's first two goals, and it went downhill from there.

judy

the final is 5-2. They're still sucking. sleeping out of exams, got the crap beaten out of them by us...So if you're sleeping and you get the crap beaten out of you, does that put you in a coma? :-P
Does anyone know if they're on a goalie rotation or if Dov is the better goalie out of the three? If he is...he's really sucking right now...

Bump because two HARVARD SUCKS threads are better than one.

Also, this might be a good time to experiment with threaded view. :-D

Wow, can't believe you found this old thread of mine.  That was in the apostrophe days of user names.
