Make that:

First Round
#5 Dartmouth tied with #12 Yale, 7-2, 4-5 (ot), final game Sunday
#6 Brown defeats #11 RPI, 7-4, 4-3 (ot)
#7 St. Lawrence defeats #10 Princeton, 7-0, 4-2
#8 Union tied with #9 Clarkson 0-1 (ot), 2-1 (ot),  final game Sunday

Copying my post from USCHO:

Damn it, French. Why'd you have to go and pull up the audio?

I got on the audio and last night and the game ended a minute later. You do the same tonight and it ends. If Cornell fans could just keep their damn computers off the Clarkson feed, the games would never end and the teams would be too worn down to make it to Ithaca next week.

IAYF, IAYF ;)

Meanwhile, we could still end up playing Yale, though I hope not for Dartmouth's sake.

Maine is freaking useless.  :-(

Yale?  MIT?  Cornell's the only one with a hockey team worth a *#$%!

Delta, I don't know why you want Dartmouth to win.  Who would you rather play next series Yale or (Union-Clarkson).  I krnow I would definitely want Yale.  The only reason why you would want Dartmouth to win is on the hope 3 Ivies will make the tourney, which they still have to get by Vermont and maybe more to make it.

BTW, not that this prediction was a good thing, but since you all have been ripping off my posts anyway... :-D  B-]

Prediction time:
OT will end in 5 minutes. Dartmouth will control the play. It's just a matter of whether or not they'll get one by Gardner before Yale gets to 3 SOG for the period.[/q]

So of course, Yale scored on their 3rd SOG of OT, and while play was probably a little more even for those 2:30 minutes than I expected, it's probably fair to say that Dartmouth still controlled the play - the GWG was a half dump-in as both teams were changing lines. Yacey had a pretty bad night. From the 4 goals I saw that he let in, it was as weak as I've seen him play all year.

Altnough Yale would be (presumably) easier, they would also be very bad for Cornell's RPI, wouldn't they?

Last time, and repeat after me.  You can no longer hurt your RPI by beating a poor team in the playoffs.  If we lose, we deserve the hit in RPI anyway.

TCHL8842

negative RPI is removed in the playoffs so no, it is all dependent on how others teams do.

Right now, we have dropped down to number 6 in the PWR.  Michigan's win jumped them over Minnesota and us into 4.  Even thought the rest of the games are not in yet, I am pretty confident that we are going to stay in this position.  We are still in the #2 band, and at 6 we are more likely to be out east then 5.  For a number one seed, we will need to win out, and get lucky.  So number 2 seed is what I am rooting for, and hopefully then we get a good draw.

Edit:  This was done with 3-2-1 bonus, else we are 5, since Miami(OH) is right on the bubble of being a TUC.

It works out pretty the same with bonsuses of 0/0/0, 3/2/1, or 5/3/1

The best new is that Minn trails Mich by 2 comparisons - mainly Minn vs. Mich and Minn vs. BU - both of which Minn loses. So Minn would have to take both those comparisons back to be a #1. And even if they did, which with their sucky play is less than like, we would still have to take the Mich (or another) one back to get stuck in Minnesota.

So we're in fairly good position now to end up east, but lets give it another week before I/we start trying to rattle off all the possibilities :)

Also cool news: with 0/0/0 and 3/2/1 bonus, we end up in a likely regional of BC/Cornell/BU/NMU in Worcester (not sure if swaps for other regions would change this at all, just did our regions)

And while playing Yale couldn't hurt our RPI, it would keep it the same, while beating another team would raise it.

However, I'm more concerned at this point about Dartmouth - I'd love to see 3 ECAC teams there - and they are twelfth at the moment. Sure, I'd take Yale, but if they can beat Dartmouth, they're on a role. I'm not too much more thrilled about a hot Yale vs. a tired Union/Clarkson. We better be able to beat any of them if all this caring about NCAA seeding means anything.

Never mind 3 ECAC teams (not since 1998), but it's never happened that three Ivy League teams made the NCAAs in the same season.  Root for Dartmouth.
