Because #4 overall would be in a bracket with #5 overall. Minnesota is #4 and a host. therefore CU would go to Minny as the 2 seed in that bracket.

Minnesota's the 1d.  The 1d-4a winner would play the 2a-3d winner, barring interconference first round games mucking it up.

Some more comments from someone else who was at the game...

Man, what an amazing game. Saying that Cornell and Colgate were just about evenly matched didn't know the half of it.  A lot of the game ended up in the neutral zone.  Both McKee and Silverthorn made awesome saves.  Colgate had the advantage in speed but it was effectively neutralized by Cornell's excellent work along the boards.  The lone goal was incredible.  Chris Abbott's been making some amazing plays lately, and it's about time one of them finally paid off.
Is next year here yet?

How about Mike Iggulden?  No gaudy stats, but the two biggest goals of the season.  Clutch baby.  Man, what a win.  Great job fans for all those who were there with us.  I have the Colgate student section cheer count of different cheers at 4.  Pathetic really.  But I've got to hand it to them, at least they were obnoxious and drunk.

Plus his pair at our lone all-victorious Everblades last winter in the 4-3 title game.

Gate is the best team I've seen us play this year. I didn't see Fla or MSU. However their fans don't deserve them. I can't believe how obnoxious, and drunk (do I repeat myself) some of them were. The ushers did at least keep fights from breaking out, but why some of them weren't tossed out I'll never understand. All I can say is, I hope some of our officials saw them, they might respect our fans a little more. I thought our fans were great, and by comparison, oh my god.

Yes they were faster, but it was certainly nice to beat them on a perfect headman pass leading to a perfect 2 on 1 play. Gate stayed back from the forecheck and did more trapping than I expected. Overall, I think they will reprsent the ECAC very well, if they get a bid.

Did anyone else think that Gate scored a goal about midway through the third period? A few of us thought a puck went in hard, hit the bottom back bar and came right out. The goal judge made no motion, the ref was in good position, and Gate didn't complain, even later after the play stopped. So maybe we saw an optical illusion. I doubt it'll be visible on the TV replay, so I don't think I'll ever know.

Our PP looked good and the puck movement, with variations, gets better every game. If we had another sharpshooter or two (greedy am I?) it would be awesome. Gate will be a difficult team to beat 3 times, but I'm ready to try for the second time.:-)

For what it's worth, we're guaranteed at least 8th place in the ECAC:

Team         Rank Hi Lo
Cornell       1   1  8
Harvard       2   1  10
Colgate       3   1  10
Vermont       4   1  11
Brown         5   1  12
Dartmouth     5   1  12
St. Lawrence  7   1  12
Union         8   2  12
Clarkson      9   1  12
Princeton     10  2  12
Rensselaer    10  4  12
Yale          12  5  12

This is good insight. A lot of us have been hoping for neutral reporting (as best one can be while rooting for Cornell) on who had the upper hand in the game and how well Colgate played.

The USCHO story was pretty convoluted using a quote to explain the goal. The Cornell bigred.com game story, dry as it was, was a little better. The faceoff was at neutral ice? Cornell's end? Did somebody take down (legally?) a Colgate player or get around him? Ah, where is that TV clip ...?

Definetly one of the best games I have seen in the last few years.  Colgate has a great team, but they clearly need to forecheck more often.  I still think that O'Byrne is a liability on defense.  He has numerous turnovers, including one in the third that had it not been for McKee would have been an easy colgate goal.  The only thing going for him is his size...he needs to start to establishing himself more as a complete player.
The last time I was at Colgate I was in the townie section, but this year I was able to witness the entire student section and I was amazed at how drunk and beligerant they all were.  The only thing Colgate had going for them was the really nice security gaurd in front of the Cornell section who repeatedly said how much he hated the Colgate students.
Should be a great game tonight...it'll be hard to get two from Colgate!  LGR!!

[/q]I discussed this as a response to a question on the game thread. The faceoff was to the right of McKee. The puck went to the boards where Downs threw it arond behind the net to Knoepfli on the left boards. He was being checked, and either shot it up through the Gate player, or off the boards to Abbott. The rest is history.:-D

From what I recall of the winning goal, there was a Colgate player falling to the ice somewhere between the red line and the 'Gate blue line behind the play.  But again, the clip is too short and the angles of sight don't indicate what happened exactly.

As for a TV clip, I think the Time Warner ch. 26 schedule for Saturday (today) has replays of the game, so perhaps a tech savy soul can tape it and check it out.
