No Cornell on TV

after the Debacle of the ECAC tv contracts over the years, i was just wondering why the lack of effort from any of the schools themselves to get on TV?  I know that Ithaca cable has done a few games tape delayed, but I really dont think that putting CU games on live would really effect the local demand all that much. But thinging bigger you have Empire/FoxNY/MSg/Yes all with time to fill on many many friday/sat nights . Is there any reason to not try and promote the school/team by getting a few games on each year? Anyone have an idea what the costs are?? With the large following of Diehard fans across the countrt and especially the NY city area it seems it might be feasible? I know that football games are done in the range of $20-3000, it would seem like hockey with less tv's needed covering a smaller arena could be done for less..

Even given $30,000 , i find it hard to belive with 20-30 commercials during a broadcast they could come close to breaking even with a limited schedule?

If you remember last year's ECACs and NCAAs on TV, you remember how precious few advertisers there were. You saw the same commercial for one bank and one beer, I think it was, maybe 20 times. That underscored how hard it was to find sponsors.

Maybe the profile of CSTV will help lift up the minor majors such as hockey, lacrosse, maybe wrestling. Problem is, part of the year you need CSTV on four hours a day; in March you need CSTV1, CSTV2, CSTV3, CSTV4 on 7x24.

I had heard that the games on the TW channel in central NY are paid for by one of the schools.  Any truth?
24 is the devil

In March, CSTV cannot carry CCHA, WCHA, etc.. because those places have existing contracts with local Fox networks.  The ECAC has the door wide open to them for CSTV, at least in regards to hockey.

The CSTV web site still has an ad for the ECAC championship game (and the CHA championship game, as well):

CSTV seems to have left it there because it has decided to pick up the championship game feed from CN8.  That is not the way it was originally planned.

The dreaded CN8 will televise this past weekend's EIWA wrestling championships on Saturday, March 13, from 5 to 7pm EST.

Somewhat disappointing third place finish for Cornell, 1.5 points behind rival Penn.  Three reasons for this:  Dickey hurt and unable to wrestle at 141; surprising upset by Penn's McGraw over Lehigh's Cooperman at 141 (props to McGraw); and Cornell's drawing seven first-round byes, thereby missing out on chances to pick up bonus points for falls and major decisions against much weaker wrestlers (Penn led by 14 after this first round).

"Outstanding wrestler" Travis Lee won his three bouts at 133 by 18-2, 15-4, and 13-4, treating Lehigh's Ciasulli like a yo-yo (let 'im up, take 'im down; let 'im up, take 'im down) to earn a major decision in the championship match.  Matt Greenburg won at 197.  Joe Mazzurco second to Lehigh's #2-in-country Troy Letters at 165.  Mormile, Manotti, Roth, and Rinaldi all finished third.  Eight Cornell wrestlers go to the NCAAs.  It's likely Dickey would have qualified as well had he been able to wrestle.

The i2sports web page now has a link for the apparently FREE broadcast of the Colgate-SLU quarterfinal series.  Anyone know if the Cornell-Clarkson series will be broadcast?  Perhaps at an additional fee?

CU Athletics seems to be neglecting the Faithful, as usual. ::help::

Sorry for double post.  First attempt didn't come back to me as successful.

According to today's Clarkson-Cornell preview at cornellbigred.com, there will be a "yet-to-be-determined" quarterfinal game televised at 7:30pm Friday.  Presume this is the CN8 broadcast.  Guess we'll find out if any other network will be picking it up--and also who the teams will be.

Indeed, Colgate's quarterfinal series is being broadcast free on i2sports courtesy of the Colgate Alumni Corporation.  Although if you watch, you'd have to put up with the Colgate student announcers.  I don't think they're bad, but I'm biased, and I remember a few posts here poking fun at them.  :-)

I found it disappointing that CCSN decided to show the Harvard-Brown matchup, at the Meehan Moratorium.

Having the Clarkson-Cornell game broadcast from a sold out high powered Lynah Rink would have been a better showcase of ECAC hockey, but whatever.  I guess they had to accomodate New England...Unfortunate that Yale didn't beat SLU, we more than likely would've gotten the call from CCSN.

I've been assuming the video feed would also be there for the home playoff series, but since it's Wednesday already, and since there's no mention of it on i2sports's page, I'm starting to get worried.  ::uhoh::

I'm campaigning behind the scenes and am slightly encouraged by one email from Athletics that was forwarded to me.  Will keep everyone here posted.
