Now they have Clemens AND Pettitte.  Interesting.

I LOVE IT!!   ::laugh::   Too bad Zim already signed with the Devil Rays.

As a Sox gal, my ...shall we say, "dislike"... for Roger Clemens is... shall we say, "large."  I've no major issues with Pettitte -- I've found him to be quite genuine.

Clemens reneging his retirement only reinforces my feeling that he's only in it for himself, the money, and is a general... shall we say, "schmuck."

The Sports Guy says it better than I could, even on my best day (for those who are interested/haven't seen this article): http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/010531.html

I disagree.  Even though I'm a Yanks fan, I've never been much more than ambivalent about Clemens...  But it's clear that he's doing the Astros thing not for the money, but for the fun of it.  He wants to join his friend Pettitte and see what they can do, closer to home.  Clemens could have stayed in New York and gotten just as much money, if not more.

Is he signing on because he believes in something in particular about the Astros organization?  No.  But he's done his service for the Yanks organization and has earned the right to have a little fun.  After all, isn't the main point of sports to have fun?

And plus, it's always fun to see someone stick it to Gerogie Porgie.

What a wonderful day.

Well, the point of professional sports is not really to have fun.  It's to win and make money.  Anyway, I think it's clear that he's not doing this for the money - the Yanks would likely have paid him $10 million for this season.  The whole retirement thing does rub me the wrong way as a Yankees fan, but whatever.  I'll bet he won't get to strike out his last batter in the World Series now...

::stupid::

I just can't wait until he has to bat against the Mets... or anyone, for that matter.

So if anyone's scoring at home, he's now turned his back on the Red Sox, the Blue Jays, and the Yankees in his career.  I couldn't hate him any more if he'd played his undergrad ball at Harvard.

A statement from the General Georgie M. "Porgie" Steinbrenner:

"Roger clemens was a great warrior for the Yankees, a teacher, and a leader.  He told the world he was retiring, and we had no choice but to believe him."

Great stuff! :-D

Even though I swore off eLF baseball topics after the ALCS threads, I'll make an exception:

As a Yankee fan who hated every minute that crybaby whore was dressed in pinstripes (19 years of hating him and counting...),  I don't care where he goes, as long as he's off my team.  My only regret is that he didn't take Steinbrenner with him.

I said it before: the only reason Clemens said he was retiring was so he could pitch in the Olympics.  Team USA failed to qualify, so back he goes to his love-muffin Pettitte.  Maybe they can double date and be cowboys together, while talking about their 4+ ERAs in Minute Maid Park.

Roger "coming out" of retirement in the same offseason reeks of disrespect to the Yankee organization.  As a Yankee fan, I'm tickled pink seeing Steinbrenner take one up the wazoo. ::moon::

I love my Yankees despite them being the evil empire, not because of it. Anyone see ticket prices recently, or try shopping for official merchandise?  It's outrageous!

Personally, I am just looking forward to a season of him having to bat in most every game he pitches. No, more hiding behind the DH. Interesting to see how teams pitch him. I really think the Mets/Piazza thing needs to be put to rest but we know the media will make a big deal when the Astros come to Shea.  It will be an interesting season to be sure.  Too bad the Mets have no frigging clue! To not go full fledge after Guerrero was assinine.  :(

The Mets visit Clemens and the (newly renamed in my mind) Asstros May 14th-16th...  I wonder if Jimy will "conveniently" rearrange his rotation so he doesn't Roger doesn't have to hit against the Mets.

I definitely agree.

I fully concede that it may just be a bitter and biased Sox fan speaking, but I see him as the Judas of Baseball.
