P.S.  There is one wrong cheer, I guess.  "Dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" ::smashfreak::

I don't especially like the extended "dieeeee" either...

We're still a great team, no one's denying that we're making a lot of opportunities for ourselves, and our ECAC record isn't too tarnished at all. When everyone returns from Thanksgiving (have a great Thanksgiving everybody), and we have the Brown/Hahvahd weekend, the roof will be blown off the building with the energy from a pair of victories.

Not to start another "DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" argument...

But I like the extended "DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"....

It is true, there has been a large amount of nitpicking about specifics in cheers.  It is probably a continuation of the frustration felt when it seemed that freshmen and other less experienced fans got prime tickets.  Understandable, but it is still early in the season and we should cut them some slack.

However, what happened last night was unacceptable.  The guys behind me, along with yelling (team) sucks at every single pause, called the girl who came with me a bitch for yelling out "rough 'em up" instead of "f*ck 'em up."  They then continued to insist that we suck because we paused after saying "see ya" rather than including "asshole."  I must admit that I enjoyed watching one of them be escorted out by an usher, an act I used to consider a power trip.

All I'm saying is that the enthusiasm at Lynah is obviously fantastic, both opposing coaches mentioned it after their games this weekend.  Let's just try to be a little more intelligent.  If anyone remembers, I think it was two years ago that we played at Brown and our band couldn't make it.  This meant the situtaion was ripe for multiple Lynah chants, along with impromptu ones.  My favorite fo these was after the small Brown fan section began yelling out Baby's name with the an incorrect pronunciation.  I screamed out, "It's pronounced B[ah]by, there's a circumflex over the 'a.'"  From the faithful behind me I suddenly heard "circumflex, circumflex, circumflex..."  I've never felt more proud of the faithful.  I use that story to help explain what it's like to be a Cornell hockey fan.

I love reading the cheers of other schools.

"You goon" is original and easy to understand in a barn of about 4K of your closest associates.  I like it a lot.
BG does the "see -ya" every now and then.  Unfortunately with the recent drought of good years, hockey has taken a bit of a back seat to football and (lord help us) basketball.

I am in complete agreement that there should be no vulgarities uttered and no references to death or dying.  Blood on the ice, well, that's okay.  :-}

Back in the day (okay, my day) we had these cheers:

*"Both teams back to full strength"  reply: "That's open for conjecture!"  This one has slipped away since the early 90's because of the confusion of the word "conjecture."  High school graduates' vocabulary isn't what it used to be, my friends.

*"Michigan back to full strength"  reply: "That's debatable."

*When the opposing team's players were introduced the student section would hold up newspapers.  After each player's name, half of the people would drop their papers and ask "Who's he?" then raise their papers back up.  Simultaniously to the paper raise, the other half would drop their papers and respond, "NOBODY!"  It was very well orchestrated and quite a sight to see.

*We had a chant which I wasn't too fond of, but it was very effective at getting into the heads of visiting net-minders.  Chant "Goal-lee" three times then end it with "You s*ck!"  A bit vulgar and unimaginative for my taste, but the students really enjoyed it.

*I started this one at a couple BG games: "The Goalie has 'looser' holes than Linda Lovelace!"  For the remainder of the game, we would chant "Lin-da."  Unfortunately it didn't stick - even though it worked really well.  I guess not too many people were as well versed in pornography as myself.  I should have resurrected it using Heidi Fleiss!

I have often wondered if these were duplicated by us or if other fans duplicated them.

Thank you for some of the insight to The Big Red's Cheers and thank you for letting me share our cheers.
I do apoligize for my long post and my "waxing nastalgia".

No love for Antonio Daniels?

[q]I am in complete agreement that there should be... no references to death or dying.[/q]  We are all in favor of references to death or dying.  We are against references to dyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyying.

[q]*"Michigan back to full strength"  reply: "That's debatable."[/q] That is pretty cool.  I just wish Lynah would go back to saying "and they still suck" when a penalty ends.  I missed it this weekend.  (Am I remembering something recent so poorly?  I thought that we were saying it in Albany and Providence last year.)

And nothing beats the cheers at Princeton: "                  "  "The seventh Cornell goal ..."

I remember doing this at Albany, but that doesn't mean that it's done at Lynah.  Lot's of alums in the post-season doing cheers they remember.

Sure. That is what I thought it was.  I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me and my small band of idiots.

You were probably sitting on the wrong side of the arena.  And I don't think that Arthur cued us.  I think we announced the end of the penalty ourselves back in the early 90's.

And, um, did you spell your own name wrong?

Steve Marciniec \'85

And way back when we were students it was simply "You, you, you..." complete with finger pointing with the same cadence of the sieve cheer after a goal.

QuoteAlso very cool.  But "Boooooooooooring!" can never change.

Thanks.  Good to know one of my few originals will live on! :-)

Arthur never announced "returns to full strength" in my time.  We did it ourselves and then followed with the tag.  I seem to remember someone saying that this used to be announced but was stopped  in an effort to stop the tag.  That may be a figment of my imagination though...
