This NHL.com article on Hoyt Stanley's family attending last night's Predators-Senators game is well worth reading.

It's terrific that a number of Cornell men's hockey players also made the trip to Kanata to watch last night's Sens game. I love that Hoyt's sister Kaiden went to Denis Ladouceur '02's bar when she needed to find a place in New York City to watch Hoyt's NHL debut on television.

"He played at a pretty good program in terms of transitioning to pro" - hell yeah!

I loved this article so much - all the little details they added in are excellent.

The Rancor

I'm sure it was mentioned before, but reading that Stanley and Castagna both graduated in 3 years, is impressive and also a reason they both went pro a season early. (perhaps they finished some classes online or during the summer, but impressive none the less)

You have the causation backwards. They graduated in three years (by taking classes over the summer) because they were going pro early.

The Rancor

So they were taking summer intensives for the past few years to prepare to graduate early as a result of going pro?

I believe it is common practice for athletes to take classes over the summer. I think Stanley and Castagna finished up their degrees this past summer after going pro. Castagna was quoted saying he planned to return for his senior year before he was traded to the Flames.

agreed this is likely - take classes over the summer (at home, if they'll transfer) so you don't need to carry 15 a semester while shouldering the team commitment and you still graduate in four years.
