Why don't you send it directly to the AD?  Relying on someone else to endorse your point will often lead to being ignored.
I did.  The lead-in of the Sun Op Ed submission is "This is a letter sent to the AD."

Pay wall but yes.

My god if the NYT thinks you're a cancer that is like getting the stink eye from Lavrentiy Beria.

To the AD, subject line: Lynah Rink lighting

Good news and bad news.

The good news is the improvement in the overhead lighting is quite effective and very welcome.  GREAT JOB fixing a long standing issue.  Kudos to you!

The bad news:

That ill-advised addition of minor league style lights show after a Cornell goal must stop immediately.  As you are aware if you have any exposure to the fanbase, everyone at the barn hates it.  Students, fans, staff, the rats in the walls.  Wolves came over the pass from Mecklenberg just to pee on the side of the barn in protest.

Have  some dignity.  We are not an AHL franchise.  As with the piped-in lame music during stoppages, you are eroding the Lynah Faithful Experience which is the biggest draw for the students and a force multiplier our players have noted again and again over decades.  That which opposing players often mention as a huge disadvantage to them.

Stop accidentally enshittifying Cornell hockey.  You are trying to fix problems that do not exist and instead reducing the experience to the same cookie cutter idiocy that has ruined most sports. We are better than that.  Use the Lynah difference; don't bury it.

Just... listen to our  fans, not MBAs.  Trust the fans to cheer, trust the band to play.  That is the atmosphere.  Everything you add — except the overhead lights which oh god thank you — is unwelcome, tawdry, and cringe.  You have a precious trust.  Don't vandalize it because some soulless idiot from the business school told you it would squeeze ten more rubles from the revenue targets.

Thank you.  And also thank you for the thousand invisible things you do every day just to keep the machine running, and which nobody will ever know.  It sucks only being criticized.  We in the peanut gallery feel you are an excellent AD and we are glad to have you.  Just please kill the dumpster stuff.

We are not Quinnipiac and never want to be.

I'm most familiar with the "why is everything so loud and flashing" debate in MLB, and at least there, a big part of it is that the players like it.

I wouldn't be shocked if the players in college hockey feel the same way.

I was thinking the same thing -- this probably wouldn't be done without the support of the teams, but you never know. Another good argument against this type of thing is that you're actually robbing yourself of the opportunity to get a bunch of good photos/videos of celebrations because you're, you know, turning the lights off. Do any NHL teams do this? It's just mostly spotlights with the house lights still up in the NHL, right?

I have a shot of Morgan Barron hanging at work that would have been ruined by this.  (Bill Howard's?)
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

To get back to the weekend games, I was mostly very pleased with what I saw. The one nagging thought in the back of my head: would have loved to have seen one or two more 5x5 goals. Still think a lot about that multigame stretch last season without any 5x5 goals. But it's early, and we'll see what happens.
