Quote from: stereax on March 29, 2026, 05:53:34 PMThe "Screw BU" song turns into "Let's Go Blue".

Actually that's probably the original version.  I believe BU then adopted it as "Go BU", to which we responded "Screw BU".  Although, TBH, the BU version may have come first and Michigan adopted it.

We added the "XXX, too" at the ECAC tournament at the Boston Garden in 1981.
I have no idea about the history lol, I just know it as the Screw BU song.

(My BU friend, referring to this chant: You're obsessed with us for some reason and we don't even think about you more than every other year.)

Before we started playing them at MSG, they didn't even think about us that often.

Well, except for the two-game series we played at Walter Brown and Lynah in November of 2001 and 2002 when Schafer was building the Frozen Four team.  Those were awesome.

Sauerkraut in Europe has more flavor to it.  I would not say it is less sour, I would say the sourness also has all sorts of hues to it which makes it more interesting.

American sauerkraut just tastes like pickled socks.

Outside of the Screw BU cheer I'd venture the same on Cornell's end unless you were a fan pre-Hockey East.

I think your friend has this incorrect. We use the BU cheer to remember the past, but really to poke at the current team we're facing. I doubt any fan, but a few of us, thinks anything about BU when the cheer goes up.

I like to think of it as Screw BU (You left us) and whomever we are now playing.

I was at that tournament.  We beat Colgate in the semis, lost to Providence in the championship game. Fun trip to Boston and the Gahden.

Oops, I misspoke.  It was the 1980 tournament.  What inspired it was the fact that we upset BU in Boston in the (one-game) quarters.  So when we played Providence in the semis it became "Screw BU. Providence, too". When we played Dartmouth in the finals, it became "Screw BU. Providence, too. Dartmouth, too."  After winning that we played Northern Michigan in the NCAA tourney.  So we made it "Screw BU. Providence, too. Dartmouth, too. And NMU."

Unfortunately, the streak ended against NMU.  So we dropped back to "Screw BU. Dartmouth, too." for the consy. And that's the version that stuck.

As one of the "few of us" — Among other great games against BU, I'll always remember listening to the double-overtime 3-3 tie against BU in the Christmas Tournament in 1966.  As I assume most current eLynah posters weren't yet born, those were real twenty minute overtime periods, not the faux-hockey overtimes played today. I was in grad school back in Ithaca and listened on WHCU, Sam Woodside (I think) did the play-by-play from the Boston Arena. Ned and Kelly (?) decided that 100 minutes of hockey was enough, so Cornell and BU were declared co-champions.
