I believe it's something like: "Cantab" is short for "Cantabrigian", which is a term derived from the original Latin name for "Cambridge".  This originally referred to the Cambridge in the UK but has been expanded to include Cambridge, Massachusetts.  And Harvard is (largely) located in Cambridge, MA.  So "Cantab" is a singular nickname for "someone who sucks."
