It seemed like there were more Cornell than Yale fans there. In any case, the Cornell fans definitely made more noise, especially since there was no Yale pep band present and the only Yale students in the rink appeared to be the ones on the ice.

I'd say the Cornell side was maybe 80% - 90% full; the Yale side was perhaps <50% full. As Sus says, end zones were barren.

Given that it was a Friday, many people just don't have the time to get to the game or don't bother, so less Cornell representation. Saturdays at Ingalls on the other hand are definitely full when Cornell is playing there. I don't know the exact distribution of fans, but after Harvard, Yale has to be close with Princeton as far as one of the most well-attended road games. The local students generally have poor attendance, regardless of the day. I'm surprised Yale didn't send a band, though

Men's basketball seems to takes precedence now at Yale.

It was nice to have a relatively easy win.  The first period was their best period and they just cruised after that.

I don't know if it's a coincidence lately or a shift in philosophy from before but these guys are shooting the puck without trying to make unnecessary passes.  Kraft had a passing option on his goal but took the shot.  Castagna was in an awkward position on his first goal but he put it on net.  Ryan was pretty far out on his goal but he didn't hesitate to let fly.  I hope it's a conscious effort because they are definitely benefitting from it.

Does anyone think Keopple might play today?

Apparently, some time after the bus left New Haven Friday night, Jonathan Castagna reached back in time to deflect Caton Ryan's shot and was credited with a retroactive hat trick: https://cornellbigred.com/news/2026/1/30/mens-ice-hockey-yale-recap.aspx.

It's the same suit every week... if it IS the suit, watch out Colgate.

i don't remember the old boxscore - did the scoring change cost someone an assist?

Castagna is generating more shots and the puck is going in at a higher rate. Castagna shot 8.2% last season and is shooting 20% this season. I believe this number includes his two ENG, which it really shouldn't, but AFAIK it does. Still, a reversal of fortune for a guy who couldn't finish his chances last season. However, he's also getting way more shots on net. Last season Castagna only had 61 SOG through 32 games, whereas this year he leads the team with 65 through 21 games. Notably last year Bancroft had 102 shots and Walsh had 96.

If I am not mistaken, I believe Ryan was originally awarded the goal with the assist to Castagna
Pretty sure this is the case, yeah.

Yes, and the disappeared assist was from XV.

The passing went XV to Ryan to Stanley to Ryan and then the tip in by Casty

I wish I'd known at the time. I always bring an extra Cornell baseball cap with me to throw on the ice if a Cornell player gets a hat trick and would have gladly done so.
