Quote from: Swampy on January 28, 2026, 02:55:02 PMOK. I'm sure this has been asked before. Friday, 19:00, Cornell plays Yale in New Haven. If I arrive in New Haven around 17:00, what's the best place for a pizza?
File this for next year: The pizza you want is on Wooster Street in New Haven, not walking distance to the rink. If it's there it's good. We are partial to Pepe's. Others like Modern. There are others. If you arrive at 6 o'clock on a weekend, it's crowded everywhere. You wind up in line next to a pudgy guy and if he's with a cute woman, you think "he's smart, she knows he's smart" and b) you could say, "If fifteen years, do you think you'll be secretary of the treasury?"

*cracks knuckles to fact check billhoward*

Modern isn't on Wooster St.

And it's about a 30 minute walk to Ingalls from Wooster St by cutting through the Green. Depends on your tolerance for walking if it's "walking distance."  I've done it.

And I don't know what he's talking about after the word "pudgy." (I once waited in line at Pepe's behind bill, but that was when I considered myself svelte.)

The parts of the game I was able to watch seemed pretty dominant. Don't look now but we'd be a 2 seed if the NCAA tourney started today.

It was great, as always, to have the pep band at the game, although they arrived much later than they usually do.
After the first few Cornell goals, the Yale PA system started playing loud music each time Cornell scored, in an attempt to drown out the chants of "Sieve" and "It's all your fault."
Sitting right behind the Cornell bench, it was interesting to note that most of the Cornell players on the bench stood the entire time, while most of the Yale players on their bench sat. From a practical standpoint, you would think players would want to take a load off their feet for a few minutes before jumping back on the ice. In the NHL, for example, players usually sit on the bench in between shifts.
I told my son that I thought the Cornell players were standing to show their connection to the Lynah Faithful, who also stand the entire game!
Kudos to Yale for their new scoreboard. It's one of the best I've seen in an ECAC rink. It appears they have a policy, though, of not showing any replays, not even the Yale goals. I continue to consider the Lynah video board useless, due both to its location and the quality of the video.

Union - 22.8
Colgate - 22.8
St. Lawrence - 22.3
Brown - 22.3
RPI - 22.2
Clarkson - 22.2
Yale - 22.2
Dartmouth - 22.0
Princeton - 22.0
Quinnipiac - 21.9
Cornell - 21.5
Harvard - 21.1

Though the number on CHN vs the one on EP is different - EP's gives that 20.97 number, and lines up with Gemini on most - but not all - numbers.

glad someone said it :)

The differences may be based on when the cutoff date is, since it's not necessarily "today" for the purpose of determining your hockey age. But the relative number between teams should be the same.

For poops and giggles, I just added another column to this page:

It's the age for each player as of today, weighted by the amount of games played. And each column is sortable.

I could very well be wrong but I believe they stand most of the time every game!

Question for someone that was there: About what percentage of the crowd would you guess were Cornell fans?

Your behind the tunnel representative - it depends. Some players prefer to sit, the majority tend to stand though. But also, after a long shift players are more prone to sitting. A couple of guys (Hiscock and Castagna, notably) like to sit on the wall and turn their back to the play. Depends.

I think at the NHL level, you're mandated to sit down? Or at least you absolutely shouldn't be sitting on the wall, haha.

Makes sense about the cutoff! And ooh, new feature...

(But more generally - stop using the Lie Boxes that are GenAI programs for actual data...)

Solidly half, possibly more. Though overall attendance was not great. Yale attendance is nothing like what it used to be. Yale bench side was maybe half full. The end zones were essentially empty.

The 7pm starts on Friday are also an issue. Building was *maybe* 20 percent full at 7. Filled in decently by 7:30 by the time folks managed traffic and parking.

It seemed like there were more Cornell than Yale fans there. In any case, the Cornell fans definitely made more noise, especially since there was no Yale pep band present and the only Yale students in the rink appeared to be the ones on the ice.

I'd say the Cornell side was maybe 80% - 90% full; the Yale side was perhaps <50% full. As Sus says, end zones were barren.

Given that it was a Friday, many people just don't have the time to get to the game or don't bother, so less Cornell representation. Saturdays at Ingalls on the other hand are definitely full when Cornell is playing there. I don't know the exact distribution of fans, but after Harvard, Yale has to be close with Princeton as far as one of the most well-attended road games. The local students generally have poor attendance, regardless of the day. I'm surprised Yale didn't send a band, though

Men's basketball seems to takes precedence now at Yale.

It was nice to have a relatively easy win.  The first period was their best period and they just cruised after that.

I don't know if it's a coincidence lately or a shift in philosophy from before but these guys are shooting the puck without trying to make unnecessary passes.  Kraft had a passing option on his goal but took the shot.  Castagna was in an awkward position on his first goal but he put it on net.  Ryan was pretty far out on his goal but he didn't hesitate to let fly.  I hope it's a conscious effort because they are definitely benefitting from it.

Does anyone think Keopple might play today?
