Did not see this one coming: Cornell over a good Columbia team 67-60.  Credit to Emily Pape, Rachel Kaus, Clarke Jackson, and others.  Certainly helped that Columbia's top scorer Riley Weiss went 1-14. Biggest win for the program in years. GBR!!

Just to give this victory a little perspective, Columbia was 24-7 last year and won a game in the NCAAs. It was the preseason pick to finish second this season behind Princeton, receiving three first-place votes. Cornell was picked seventh in the preseason poll. And Cornell's win came on the road. Hopefully, this will give Cornell some confidence after a lackluster non-league performance.

While the men's basketball team is struggling, the women's basketball team beat Dartmouth, 61-52, on the road for its second straight Ivy road win. Emily Pape scored her 1,000th career point during the game, which Cornell led from start to finish.

Thought the gals had a good shot at beating Yale seeing as the Elis had lost 5 straight coming in.  The shooting woes they've had the last few years came back to haunt them outside of Clarke Jackson's effort. Despite their earlier win over Columbia the program needs a massive infusion of talent to compete with the top half of the league.

What makes this win even more disappointing is that it came at home against a Yale squad picked to finish last in the Ivies. BTW, Yale's 6-5 Mary Meng is the tallest player in the Ivy League.

Not sure what to make of this team-
They have trouble getting open on offense and when they do the shots don't fall. Was hoping Coach Garner was an upgrade over Smith but not seeing it so far on the court.

This is only Garner's second year. The Ivy League has become quite strong, and she needs to up the recruiting game in order to get competitive with the top teams. Since the Ivies haven't reached the stage where they are completely turning over their rosters every year by using the transfer portal, I'd give her a few more years to start showing that the program is on the right path.

Agreed, but I think next year's recruiting class is really important.

Based on recent years i expect the top of the league to get their stars whisked away. i don't think the ivies are going to be the beneficiaries of the NIL era. An underappreciated opportunity for a team like ours to have the conference meet us halfway.
