Quote from: BearLover on November 21, 2025, 09:31:35 PMGood win overall. Particularly in goal and defending when Union had the puck. But Cornell did not play well when it had the puck. So many failed clears, bad turnovers, failing to even get a shot off on partial breakaways and odd-man rushes.

Veilleux has that slapshot that made me think of Malinksi and Barron.
We go for the net.

We shoot at the opponent's net.

We are aware, in principle, of the general direction of the opponent's net.  Where goals go.

What a difference in this generation.

Listed attendance 3,230????

I would wager that is the single lowest number for a regular season game while school is in session in the past 25 years. Not counting COVID era restrictions.

I think Clarkson has the third worst NPI in the ECAC.  WTF?

Also the NPI tab just disappeared from the Android version of CHN? :o

Sounds like you need to buy 1000 tickets and distribute them to people on campus.

Jane's article is out:

Heading into Friday night, No. 20 Union boasted the third-best offense in the nation, averaging four goals per game.

It would skate off the ice at Lynah Rink with just a '1' on the scoreboard. And beyond that, only nine shots on goal through the final 40 minutes.

"We made them defend," said head coach Casey Jones '90. "That's what you want to do to a good offensive team. You don't want them to have the puck. You want to put pucks in behind them."

I'm thinking you missed 1995.

Edit: Oh Jesus Christ.  1995 was 30 years ago.

Please kill me.

I do seem to recall though that 2014-2016 were low attendance.  That was one of our nadirs as a crowd and we worried about the torch not being passed.  As we did in the early 80s and the mid 90s and after COVID.  It is a Perennial Panic.

I'll bet the Keeeeds are all back in their safe Westchester County homes committing various misdemeanors against nature and will be back strong next January.

Fun fact for the others: We habitually did it wrong for about a decade, before Age talked to the originators (you?) and had the skill to add the middle half-note beat back.

Cowbellin' aint easy.

I have no idea what they are doing now.  I can't hear it on the 'cast.

That extra beat has been long gone again.

The guy tonight was horrific. I'm not sure what he was doing, but it wasn't close to right. He actually looked mad that no one was participating, but no one could because we had absolutely no idea what he was playing. After his second attempt two different people...one out of the band and one, a little later, from the front of A, went over to try to educate him.

On a different note, any one have any idea why the band played the alma mater between the first and second periods? My best guess is they planned to do it then for the Hall of Fame inductees, but they were long gone by the time the band started the alma mater, so if that had been the plan they should have scrapped it.

It used to be multiple people brought cowbells early on and auditioned and were either ignored, booed, or applauded, and that's how it was passed on.  Age had some challengers who almost all sucked.  If this guy sucks boo him into oblivion and make him STFU.

They have already ruined the telephone cheer.  Don't let them destroy this too.

If you know undergrads who know this boob, tell him it's not an entitlement and he sucks.  I don't care which frat told him they own it.

Does not surprise me.  In 45 years, Age is the only person I have heard who could do it with perfect cadence.  He is our Cowbell Neil Peart.  He must have triple jointed thumbs or something.

I just checked past seasons' box scores on CHN
2014: almost every home game was a sellout, lowest attendance for any game was 3,916
2015: most games sellouts, lowest attendance: 4,059
2016: about half games sellouts, lowest attendance: 3,848

I feel pretty good that the tonight's 3,230 is the worst attendance we've had for any game in decades while school is in session.

Good win, Veilleux's one timer is juicy. It's nice to be back to the dominating faceoffs and limiting shots team that we are meant to be. We still haven't given up more than two goals in a game, keep that going and we will go a long way

Okay, I looked at some more seasons, and I did find two games with lower attendance: both in 2022-23, one vs Sacred Heart the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (2,722), and one later in the season vs Clarkson (3,102). Other than those, I can't find any games in the past 25 years with lower attendance than tonight's, though there probably are a few cases, as I only checked years where I'd expect attendance to be down such as 2022-23, which came right after the year of COVID restrictions.

I checked the Friday before Thanksgiving games in other seasons and saw nothing close to as bad as tonight's attendance.

Not sure if anybody involved with the hockey team or Cornell athletics is trying to do anything about Lynah atmosphere but this feels like the low point. Notably we made the NCAAs 7 of the last 8 years and won the ECAC the past 2 seasons so it doesn't seem to be tied to on-ice success.

Maybe people will show up tomorrow...? Looking at bigredtix.com, F is GA, and G/H/J are about half unsold. The student sections aren't available but D and E looked mostly empty tonight.

The only easy solution I can offer is to decrease ticket prices.

Quote from: BearLover on November 21, 2025, 10:14:21 PMLet's see how tomorrow (trap game) goes, but thus far I'm impressed. The defensive gapping and structure doesn't appear to have changed from Schafer's. Counoyer looks great. The freshmen look good on the whole. The PP is better.

The major gripes are that offensively there's little to write home about and we don't take care of the puck.

Overall, based on a minuscule sample, I'm optimistic about the Casey era. I also find it funny that Clarkson is now struggling.

My biggest complaint this year is the fan support. The schedule didn't break our way (4 games over pure intercession and 2 more the weekend before classes start), plus the ice debacle maybe scaring some people away, but come on, the attendance and energy is seriously lacking. Is anybody trying to fix this? Lower ticket prices or something!
Man I agree with you on most things but you really need to stop being so incessant about it. I also am a bit annoyed at the attendance tonight, but you don't need to post about it 4 different times, that's where it gets a bit annoying. Of course nobody can stop you but I think we all want this forum to be a more enjoyable place, and I hope you can do us a solid and try to help achieve that.

To be honest I thought today felt in line with the Nodak/Duluth crowds we had to start the past couple of years. The reality is that the more clueless fans are the ones who are the difference between a disappointing crowd and a sellout, and they know names like Brown and Yale, not Union and Minnesota Duluth. Considering that many students have left for break, I don't think it was a horrible crowd on that end, not sure why the townie side was so empty though. I don't think this is a major problem, I'm pretty sure both of last weekends games sold out and we know we shouldn't have a problem drawing for Dartmouth, Harvard and Colgate when we return home after break.

This is a happy day with a ranked win!  The crowd isn't my main focus
