Agreed with consensus. First two periods great. After delay... not so much.

I like how coach Jones has been balancing the lines a lot, not stacking the first two and leaving the bottom 6 to struggle. He's even been using the extra skater with Walsh on the first line which I like a lot. He's also not afraid to play our best players a lot so Stanley and Veilleux see pretty much half the game. I'm not so sure about starting the fourth line but hey as long as we keep winning. I do love seeing Devlin out there though, he lives for the hits and I'm finally getting to see why he was drafted out of prep.

To our Lynah Faithful and Cornell v. Yale Fans,

Tonight's ECAC and Ivy League men's hockey game between Cornell and Yale experienced an unexpected delay between the second and third periods due to issues with the ice surface at Lynah Rink. Out of an abundance of caution for player safety and game integrity, officials, in consultation with the ECAC Hockey Office and our event operations team, extended the intermission to allow the ice to be resurfaced and refrozen.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, and the many staff members whose evening was extended as a result. Most of all, we are grateful to the Lynah Faithful—our passionate fans—who stayed, cheered, and created an unforgettable atmosphere even through the delay. Your dedication and spirit truly embody what makes Cornell Hockey special.

We are already working with campus facilities staff and external ice experts to identify and address the underlying causes of the issues, and we are committed to delivering the best possible playing conditions and game experience for everyone at Lynah Rink.

Thank you again to our community for your understanding, loyalty, and unwavering Big Red pride.

With Gratitude,

Nicki Moore

To be fair, it's 50º outside right now and pouring.  So that's going to warm things up inside the rink.  And it was pretty warm inside.  But somebody is going to have to do a serious job of reconditioning the ice in the next week.  Because there are a bunch of things that need work.

First home sweep since the North Dakota series to open last year.

Ice NEEDS to be thicker...

Yeah that's one thing.

Also, there's a big grey patch between the circles at the G/H end, and the crease at that end has lost a lot of it's blue color.

Same forecast next weekend pretty much. No women's game though.

Hard to believe they permanently fucked up the ice.  They will just go back to whatever the process was the last, oh, 70 years.  Lesson learned.  You can't just change without a study and experiments, which the dorks will do in the Spring.

My god we must have one material science person who can handle... water.

Ever since they brought in the new generation laser-guided Olympia ice resurfacer, they thought they could get away with having a thinner ice layer, which ideally improves its performance if proper refrigeration temperatures can be maintained. But the thinner ice means less margin for error: the paint layer is not as protected from scraping off and the decals are closer to the surface, raising the risk of breakages. But hey, we got to enjoy some redneck improvisation: who knew that fire extinguishers could be so useful? The mild embarrassment this caused our corporate administrators can only be a good thing.

Will it lead to beheadings?

I was told there would be beheadings.

Possibly dumb question: Do you just spray water on the existing surface to make it thicker or is it better to melt the ice and start fresh?

From what I understand they can spray thin layers at a time and once that's frozen, repeat
Could be wrong but that's what I've been told over the years

upprdeck

there are issues beyond just the equipment happening here.
