On call with my friend who's trying to keep up with the 24-25 class. Today we learned that Kempf had surgery and was out for a LONG time, and is now being loaned down to the ECHL.

Travis Mitchell started for the Bridgeport Islanders against the LV Phantoms last night.  He got a decent amount of ice time, but he was -3 on the night with 2 SOG.

Phantoms won, 7-3.

Malinski's 8th goal of the year (bringing him 1 point shy of 40 for the season): https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/48480718

I'm watching the replay of that game on NHL Network.  It was a pretty goal.

With an assist last night, Malinski hits the 40 point mark for the season (8G, 32A). It's especially impressive given that he has gotten almost zero power-play time, except on the rare occasions when Makar and Toews are both out of the lineup.

Is Malinski the first Cornell defensemen to ever hit 40 points in the NHL?

In a season? Yes. Douglas Murray topped out at 17 one season but totaled 64 for his career. No other Cornell d-man has ever even hit 40 points total.

So the best NHL defenseman in Cornell hockey history stayed four years and signed his first pro deal right before his 25th birthday. Too bad Hoyt Stanley didn't get the message.

The Rancor

Doug "Crankshaft" Murray wasn't known as a scorer lol.

True, yet up until this month he was Cornell's all-time leading scoring d-man in the NHL.

A fond memory of the 2003 Frozen Four team is chatting with Murray about his "playing style" - one of his favorite things to do was finish a hit against an opposing forward by pinning him to the wall and laughing in his ear as loud as he could.

Yeah, because one data point is perfectly correlated to reality.

I missed it but Sullivan Mack is back in the AHL with Hartford to finish out their season.  In three games since his recall he's scoreless.
