The CHN  box does indeed say "butt ending."

Wild quotes from Schafer in this article: https://cornellsun.com/2024/12/07/third-period-controversy-costs-no-12-mens-hockey-against-colgate/

"Our kid says he didn't butt-end him — he [said] he jammed his hand into his stomach"
Would this be legal even if it were true? Is jamming your hand into an opponent's stomach such that he falls to the ice not a penalty?

"I don't know whether to believe him or not, it's kind of inconsequential but you've got to believe your players. They're like your own kids, right?"
This is the least confident statement I've ever heard in my life.

It might not be a major.

Yeah, I was wondering that. Even still, though, saying "he says he merely punched him in the chest, which is only worthy of a minor penalty. I don't know whether to believe him, but he's like my child and a parent always believes his child" does not inspire confidence...

Wow today would have been completely shitty if I wasn't with my friends for it. A bad loss, super long drives because of the snow and every single colgate student we interacted with was a complete douchebag. Not that I think that's representative of all their students but it sure didn't make the loss feel any better. Last year Schaf was pissed going into winter break off a Colgate game and we played better second half, have to hope that's coming again this year.

Quote from: BearLoverIf tonight's results hold, Princeton will have a higher PWR than Cornell. Wonder why we didn't just hand the program over to Syer.

I honestly thought the same thing after he left for Princeton. Hope I'm wrong, but think we messed up on that. And before u come branding your pitch forks, I'm sure mikes retirement had been brought up between the two long before this season. Unless Mike saw something he didn't like or didn't think he had what it takes to do the job, I don't get it.
That's the only explanation. It's still early obviously, but it's looking like a massive miscalculation.

It's possible that Ben didn't want the job.

I don't always try to cripple an opponent with a cheap shot.  But when I do, I choose to be within 6 feet of an official with unencumbered line of sight.

And yet the Official's arm stayed down

I decided to make the trek to Hamilton for this game, through the hazardous road conditions.  This was my 11 year old daughter's first away game, and my first proper away game in...I'm not sure, but I'm guessing well over 11 years.  Despite the lousy weather, the crappy game result, and the plethora of asshole Colgate student fans in attendance, at least they didn't throw pizza at us.  A minor silver lining, but a silver lining nonetheless.
Is next year here yet?

We have seen head shots get reviewed. And from that angle what he did is unclear other than the guy went down. Could have pulled his pants for all that shows.

According to Schafer, Donaldson claims he hit the Colgate player with his fist, not the end of his stick. I don't know what the rule is, but the Colgate player was in the crease.

I also had a bad experience with the Colgate fans and I was surprised because I've been to a couple other games there and never had anything like that. It's not the behavior that I would expect from a small liberal arts school anyway, it's especially weird because the vast majority aren't actually big fans because every other home game they have is completely devoid of students

Puzzling, as he had a much better view than this camera angle.  But than again, it's not the only penalty that the refs missed.
