Watching the Leafs try to make it past the second round is giving me vibes of Cornell's 1-12 record in the final 8 under Schafer.

Does he know the Leafs consider it a success to make it past the FIRST round?

Barron being a good teammate:

Schiefele had every right to be incensed though: he took a nasty sucker punch (while being held back by a ref) from Jamie Benn.

With the Jets' elimination last night, we're officially out of Cornell alums playing in the playoffs.

Brianne Jenner is still alive in the Walter Cup final for Ottawa. Game one is Tuesday. All games are on YouTube in the US.

Great success in Toronto this year...

Chris Abbott '06 was hired at the beginning of this season by the Carolina Hurricanes as their VP-Pro Player Development.  Twin brother Cam was also hired to coach Carolina's AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.  Also, in June of last year, the Hurricanes promoted Eric Tulsky, a Harvard grad and Berkeley PhD, to GM.  Tulsky was hired about 10 years ago by the Canes (and by then GM Ron Francis) to be the analytics guru for the team.  Bringing in the Abbotts were two of his first moves as GM.  On the other side of that Stanley Cup semi-final, Braden Birch '13 is VP of Hockey Operations & Salary Cap Management for the Florida Panthers. Furthering the Cornell connections, Ron Francis' daughter went to Cornell at the same time as Riley Nash, and Francis, who attend a bunch of games at Lynah when his daughter was there, made a trade to acquire Nash's draft rights from Edmonton.  Also, Francis, who just got let go as GM of the Seattle Kraken, was the one who brought Jessica Campbell '14 into the Kraken organization.

Somewhere in my memory bank I recall that Francis (who's my age) was planning on attending Cornell before being drafted as the 4th overall pick his draft year. Similar to Mark Scheifele, who had actually committed to Cornell before being the 7th overall pick his draft year. And speaking of Scheifele, so sad about his father dying unexpectedly the day of game 6 for Winnipeg against Dallas. Somehow Scheifele played that night, and scored Winnipeg's only goal. Unfortunately he took the penalty that led to Dallas's game winning OT goal.

I play occasionally with a kid who's heading to Chicago Steel for Juniors, and to Maine for Collage (unfortunately, because he's so darn good) that Head Coach Mike Garman is off to Notre Dame to be Associate Head Coach.

FWIW, the kid is super nice, an amazing player, but seems to have zero academic ambition and is only concerned with hockey and getting to the NHL. "What are you going to study at Maine?" Kid,"I don't know. I haven't really thought about it."
This is why we get who we get at Cornell, and shouldn't even worry for a moment about over-agers from the CHL coming to East Hill.

I'm not sure what this post means but there are overagers from the CHL going to Princeton, as one example. Also, you overstate the academic ambition of many players who choose Cornell. I'm not saying our players are dumb (at all), but many of them want nothing other than to play professionally, and are not nearly as focused on academics. We are trying to recruit high-end hockey players, not high-end scholars. Obviously there is a correlation between being smart and choosing (and having the minimum academic credentials to attend) Cornell, but people need to dispense with the notion that Cornell hockey players are cut from an entirely different cloth than those of other programs.

I crossed paths with many athletes in my time at Cornell (hockey, lacrosse, football, ...). They all seemed a lot more focused on athletics than academics. This is not intended as a slight. Being a high-end college athlete is like a full-time job. Why do you think most athletes end up in AEM/the hotel school? Why are almost none engineers? These kids don't blow off academics but it's usually not their main focus. I don't think it's even close, honestly, but I'd prefer to not turn this discussion into another flame war.

You called it, Al.

Apparently they are letting Brian post again.   How long before he has to "Take a break from eLynah"?

Only his (underpaid) analyst knows for sure.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."
